Sprint/Oly/HIM Trainers, Dec 17

Yaayyyy I'm back. Finally received my password by email, after countless attempts... So, how's everyone? I missed the CRMS...

Yesterday I got quite late to the gym, did some weights and a short treadmill run. Somehow, again, I can't run on the TM. An outside it's like 20 degrees with 40mph winds....

Re: Sprint/Oly/HIM Trainers, Dec 17

Skipped a workout yesterday for the first time in a long time because of the wind. I was supposed to do a 1.5 hour bike ride. I figure I will have plenty of time to make it up. Did complete an 11 mile run on Saturday as part of the mileage buildup to the marathon on March 2nd. Chris, do you like my new name? I figured it was a lot more appropriate.

Carrie, when you find your way over to here, I think I may be doing the 15K at Gasparilla after all. I was going to do a Total Immersion clinic that weekend, but decided it was just too darn expensive.

Happy training, all.

Jerry

Re: Sprint/Oly/HIM Trainers, Dec 17

Hi Jerry, Chris - I've been scattershot with my training lately. Work training across the country, holiday stuff, and a tweaky knee has me doing not much of anything at this moment.

My massage therapist said there's all sorts of fun stuff going on with my right quad (the one with the balky knee), which is always fun to hear (not!)

Hope your holidays are going well fellow tri-peeps. I guess our main challenge the next few weeks is to see if we can get used to this new format

Re: Sprint/Oly/HIM Trainers, Dec 17

Hi all! Checking in....I'm still trying to get the hang of this place. As if I don't waste enough time on the boards, now I'm wasting time trying to figure out said boards :) This morning I had a good elliptical workout of 50 minutes with intervals - supposed to be a run day but I draw the line at 24 degrees. Too cold, so I stayed in. I hope we see the others back here soon too!

Re: Sprint/Oly/HIM Trainers, Dec 17

Hi all!

I'm finally starting to feel better. Went to the doctor and got an antibiotic for my sinus infection/bronchitis and a steroid inhaler since my asthma has flared up with this. Nothing like a couple of weeks of forced rest. My dr did ask me something interesting yesterday- if my joints and bones have been more sore since I have not been able to train at all for the past week. Well, yeah, they have actually. She said that they've done studies in athletes and found that their bodies are more sore when they don't workout versus when they do. She said it's a sign that my body has adapted to the level of training and is signalling that something has gone wrong. Kind of cool, I thought.

Glad to see that everyone is finding there way around here. It looks like it's going to take some time.

Take care everyone!!!

Re: Sprint/Oly/HIM Trainers, Dec 17

Hey, welcome back CRMS! Things are going okay around here. Been rather consistent and that makes me happy-of course I leave in a few days for my trip to Italy and I will not be working out there (other than walking A LOT). Trying not to drown in last minute work things and holiday cookies!

Take care everyone.

Re: Sprint/Oly/HIM Trainers, Dec 17

I'm going to try real hard not to go into how I feel about the new boards. I'm glad most everyone has at least found us over here. I'll leave it at that.

I'm getting over being sick and finally made it out for a run today. It felt so great to run, even though I felt slow while my HR seemed high. Oh well, it was my first run in 8 days. I don't count my lame attempt at working out at the gym on the treadmill a couple of times while sick. I suppose I take my good health for granted to the point that when I come down with something, I'm a terrible sick person! But now that I can manage an hour or so at a time without coughing up some disgusting junk, and feel mostly myself again, I'm in a much better frame of mind!

Alicia... have an awesome time in Italy! It is by far one of my very favorite places. Jerry.... it's possible I'll do that 15k again in Tampa in Feb. I loved that race last year. But I'm not certain that's when I'll be going down there. Chris... I'm with you on the riding in the cold thing. I really want to go for a ride but it's just not going to be happening anytime soon. Oh well.

Re: Sprint/Oly/HIM Trainers, Dec 17

Ran for almost 2 hours on Sunday (with a hangover) - Monday was a rest day... Tuesday I was meant to go for a bke ride but it was DP's birthday. Too much bubbly at 9am got in the way of anything active. So a 20k bike ride today is on the cards - and a 10k run on Thursday...

Yay! I remembered my login! Sorry, I've been out of the loop, super busy at work, but today is my last day until Jan 3 :D

I have been slacking on the workouts this week, but I did do my 10 mile run on Sunday and it went really well, so now I'm getting excited about the HM even though it's still almost 8 weeks away.

Way to run with a hangover Brix!! impressive!

So is there a way to review the previous posts?? I can't remember what everyone has going on! I usually read each post and reply, hmmm this will definitely take some getting used to.

Re: Sprint/Oly/HIM Trainers, Dec 17

Hey all - well, all cardio is on the shelf for awhile. Who would've thought the most dangerous things to your knees would be yoga & commuting.

Well, the left knee joins the roster of tweaked spots. Long story short - I injured myself trying to come out of the commuter train from people who just refused to move from in front of the doors to let people out. I tripped over one of them and boom - my left knee landed full weight on the platform outside. The silver lining is it just seems to be only badly swollen and bruised and nothing more. And I guess courtesy is as in short supply as the Nintendo Wii this holiday season.

Alicia - Italy! Wow, have fun - that's one of those places I've got on my "gotta' do sometime down the road" list.

Brix - quite the trooper working out through a hangover. I dunno' - is champagne an acceptable refueling option on your bike? :D

Chris - thanks for the advice; looks like with both knees tweaked, it's become the default option. Kinda' sucks too - now that I'm not going to Nepal, I've been trying to figure out what to do with all of this opened up time and what races I should be looking toward.

Tam - get better soon!

Take care folks - hard to believe the start of winter is only a couple days away.

Re: Sprint/Oly/HIM Trainers, Dec 17

Man- we're quite the bunch right now aren't we?

Joe- take care of those knees. BFF fell onto her knees like you described and her kneecap was tweaked just enough to track improperly. She's now in PT trying to get the thing straightened out.

Carrie- Hang in there and feel better soon!

Chris- I thought the same thing about the steroids too! Today I was able to walk up the stairs without soundling like a 90 year old emphysema patient. :0

Heather- Glad you found us.

Brix- Did you feel sluggish with your hangover? That's impressive!!!

Take care everyone!
