Robhamm, and scarletknight, where do you want to meet? 6 am good? I can do seven if that's when you need to Rob.

Gregolowe,
I think that Robhamm's original idea to meet at the Hopewell Lake parking lot is a good place to meet. Is the park open at 6am? 6am or 7am is okay - whatever you and Robhamm agree to is fine by me. I don't plan to run more than 4 hours.

DH is one of those rogue mountain bikers Generally the bikers are very curteous.

The trails, in sections, are VERY rock. I find these trails to be the most technical around. I love them!

Re: French Creek - PA Long Run ? Labor Day
I will try to show up too. My wife and I might be in the poconos for Labor Day weekend but may come home Sunday night instead...in that case I will be there for Monday morning.

Could someone post some directions to the parking lot...I am not that familiar with FC (I did the double trouble but that is the only time I have run there).

Speaking of the poconos, my wife and I have a place near Mt. Pocono (where she grew up) and I dont normally run up there because I dont know what my options are...

Does anyone know of any good trails near Mt Pocono? (This is the same area as Camelback Ski Area, the soon to exist Mt. Airy Lodge slots parlor and that silly indoor water park and our house is right off of the course for the red cross marathon)

Re: French Creek - PA Long Run ? Labor Day
Woohoo! This is getting exciting! 6:00am, Got it. Directions would be nice. Coming from Philly area.
The more the merrier. Rocks?-love em. Technical/hazards? All that much better. Whoever knows the area best, lets do the steepest, longest climbs (I'll be walking em anyways so what's it matter?). Good training for VT. Quaker, I hope you make it so we can talk about Wiss. runs. Running in the Pocono's? Funny you should ask. I've been reading the running adventures of Davey Crocket at crockettclan.org/running/. His reports really fired me up to do some adventure running. The closest thing to Philly for some "mountains" are the Pocono's! I went online yesterday and was hunting around for some good places to run. In the near future I'm going to drive straight up the Northeast extension and hop on the AT at Lehigh Gap and run to the Deleware River Gap and back. Not sure how long. That area is gorgeous. Go to Fallinpa.com. Excellent site with lots of hiking/running trails. I think Mt. Pocono is near Scranton? Google trails and Scranton. You can find good trails nearby. The Pinchot Trail looks like one I'll do in the near future as well. Sorry, not a very specific answer but poke around on the net. There's good wild places left. Mt. Pocono should sit very near to some.

Re: French Creek - PA Long Run ? Labor Day
Maybe this is premature, but would anybody here be interested in possibly creating an ultra running group in the Philly area? We could do group adventure runs in the Deleware River Valley area or within a few hours drive once a month or so? Possibly coordinate hitting some races together? Share training information? It looks like there's a core group here of about a half dozen people. Seeing as we live near the fifth largest city in the nation this could really take off. It could be a great way to introduce people to our sport...wait a minute. This might be a bad idea afterall. Okay, well, it could be a great way for us already in to encourage/help/motivate one another.
Edit: We could call ourselves the Philly Ultra Group, or P.U.G.'s. Anybody happen to have a pug we could use as a mascot?!

Re: French Creek - PA Long Run ? Labor Day
I think a Philadelphia Ultra/Trail running club would be an awesome idea...but only if we can make up some cool t-shirts...

I think it could be a great idea.

Rob - Thanks for the directions.

I will start lobbying my wife to return on Sunday night so I can make it to the run. I will threaten her with severe holiday traffic...that will scare her into doing my will.

Oh,

Just a warning, and merigayle can attest to this. The trails can be extremely rocky in sections with the occasional root patch, and crossing cob webs, the stretching briars, small water crossing, hikers with pets, and rogue mountain bikers. It all attributes to a good time!

Do you want me to bring anything?
<HR>

Sounds good! I've only run French Creek twice - the Dirty Bird and Double Trouble trail runs. I don't know how representive they are of the other trails at FC, but the Dirty Bird was described as being 85% rocky, which seemed accurate.

Re: French Creek - PA Long Run ? Labor Day
I usually run on trails that resemble empty creek beds more than trails so it's all good. Pennsylvania is the land of the rocks. I mean, there were so many people built their freakin houses out of em when they settled here, and still do. See everybody on the 3rd. Sounds like this is going to be fun. Bring friends.
