Ultra Runners First Aid Kit?

Like many here I do 4, 5 & sometimes 6 hour solo runs and on these I also like to carry a small first aid kit. While compiling some gear for my first 50 miler this weekend (Stone Cat) I noticed that have to replenish my first aid supplies.

Since there seems to be a first aid kit geared toward almost all other activities I got to wondering what other folks would pack to make an "Ultra Runners First Aid Kit". Typically I carry:

A few band Aids
Chap Stick
A Couple Tylenols
An Aneseptic Wipe

Thoughts on other contributions?

I don't but should carry some duck tape and a sterile bandage. I bring some generic immodium and gas-ex to races.

I second the Gas-ex after my Masochist experience! I've never used it, but doesn't Immodium essentially shut down the digestive system? Maybe OK near the end, but that wouldn't be good early on in a race.

Although I didn't need it on race day, I came up with the gas-ex idea in prep for running the Leadville 100. I remembered good old PV=nRT and didn't want to deal with that pain on Hope Pass.

I used to take loperamide prophylactically prior to and during 100s. These days, I only have it with me in case I need it.

Re: Ultra Runners First Aid Kit?
I think there's a difference between ultra survival kit (tampons, stomach stuff, toilet paper) vs. an actual first aid kit.

I think a survival kit with stuff like that is great to have. I usually have a candy bar in mine as well. Sometimes I need solid food.

As for a medical kit. I've come to realize that my med kit consists of a cell phone (usually works in my area). Over the years, I've realized that there are only two types of injuries for me. One is not severe enough to need a med kit. The other is too severe for a med kit to do anything.

Re: Ultra Runners First Aid Kit?
I don't usually carry a first aid kit, but I always carry my cell phone, a credit card, ID on my shoe and sometimes $$ for a vending machine. I usually carry water and a papertowel (the uses for the papertowel are too many to list )and that is sufficient to clean up an open cut until I get home.

If I am going for a 4+ hour run I usually plan to run near a gas station or store to buy anything I maybe in immediate need of.

Have fun running!
