Scoffers

SCOFF'ER, n. One who scoffs; one that mocks, derides or reproaches in the language of contempt; a scorner.

These folks would talk down and discourage their children from attemptig anything at their level. It's shameful for these scoffers and mockers to try to stop someones dreams to achieve something. They keep others down by their disapproving glares and demeaning words.

It's not the overweight, older, slower and ill equipped that has a problem. Those peripheral things can be overcome with a winning spirit. It's the fascist (forcibly suppress and discourage) types who wish they could put a a stop the majority in enjoying simple liberties such as running.

They whine and slither trying to discourage people from progressively running farther and longer with the technique of walking. So what if most might say that they went for a long run of 12 miles with walking every 10 minutes. They sound like they have been de-valued or there is a lack of "respect for the distance" . They never mention "Self Respect'.

Folks, just dont mind the mouth frothing loonies who preach with a hateful attitude. Dont pay any mind to those who dont enjoy life therefore wanting to impart their misery. It doesn't matter what they:

1) think
2) say
3) how they stare and glare
4) if they laugh

Think good thoughts that encourage you and others. Say words that build up and never tear down. If they stare and glare then pray for them because they're the most miserable people you know. If they laugh, laugh with them, laugh for them, just dont reciprocate and laugh at them.

Titus 1:15 Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.

Excellent essay. I disagree that being fat, old, slow and hung like a thimble aren't problems, but the rest of what you said is right on. I'm sick and tired of seeing people's civil liberties violated when they're forcibly removed from marathons because they've taken walk breaks. This happens all the time. It would be nice if Gallowalking critics did not have such an obvious desire to deny entry to run-walkers, often threatening bodily harm in so doing. I did once punch a woman in the face for getting in my way, but she was warned several times and I've already related that tale elsewhere.

How do you "stop someone's dreams" to achieve something? Is that sort of like when a guy wakes up his girlfriend in the middle of the night so he can do it ("achieve something") with her?

dg, nice attempt, but no score. No amount of common sense can stop the anti-Galloway crusade.

Fine Galloway training helps people post better times, reduces risk of injury and helps people attain a level of fitness that they never dreamed of before. What you don't realize are the terrible effect that this plan has.

Namely, Galloway training, by helping non-athletic looking types run a marathon, takes away the esteem of other runners who have toiled through pain and injury to run marathons. It was hard enough when Oprah started doing them, but now making it accesible to the masses? That's just not fair. What happened to the good old days of No Pain No Gain?

These guys have nothing else that's good in their lives. And to have others completing marathons, with some having very good times just adds insult to injury....

FYI, kzod. This debate between Galloway and anti-Galloway has been clogging up this forum. Thus, I and at least one other poster have moved the debate over to the Competitive Wire forum where all these anti-Galloway posters live. I'd rather discussions of the "moral correctness" of the method clog up their own forum.

Naaaaaaah. You're complicating this. Plus your reasoning sucks, m'man. No one here is worried that the parade of slow runners into marathons is going to diminish their glory, cuz you know what, cuz, no one here HAS any glory, except in their own minds. John Doe cares as much about a 2:30 marathoner as he does a 5:00 marathoner. If anything some midpacker like me could only get MORE glory from more people running races, since more of America will be paying attention. It's not a moral issue, bro, not even for the dudes who go on and on and on about how Gallowalking won't allow you to be at your fastest.

Finally, please, do not mention the word "common sense" when defending the idea that walking in marathons is a route to quicker times. You've swallwered the Kool Aid but obviously some here have not.

Re: Scoffers
I blame the gallo-defenders more than the anti-galloway folks for the perpetuation of this debate. You're fabricating these alleged attacks on your method and turning in to a bunch of whining crybabies. It looks something like this:

AntiGalloway: I just don't think you should be able to say you ran a marathon if you took walk breaks.

GalloDefender: Why do you hate people trying to get fit!? What did they ever do to you?!

AntiGalloway: I don't think Galloway is being completely honest in his claims.

GalloDefender: Why do you hate Jeff Galloway!? He's helped thousands of people!

AntiGalloway: I wouldn't discourage anyone from gallowalking, but it's not for me.

GalloDefender: Overweight peoepe have rights too! Why do you hate people trying to get fit?

AntiGalloway: The galloway movement has taken away a lot of the mystique of the marathon.

GalloDefender: Why do you hate children!?

AntiGalloway:

Why bother to wake her up.

Your attempt at being clever has failed. You just look childish,
which further degrades your credibility.

In any case, yes, what I described is roughly what's going on here. Sure, there have been one or two nasty remarks by one or two anti-galloway posters, but a few gallo-defenders have used that as an excuse to freak out at any suggestion that the galloway method is less than ideal.

Many of us have tried to be diplomatic about our disagreement with Galloway training and the establishment of this forum. However, if you continue to misrepresent our positions (and to insult us in the process), that will likely cease to be the case.
