What Marathon are you training for?

I'm assuming that most everyone on this board is training for either a 1/2 or full marathon. Which marathon or half are you training for? Is this your first? If not, how many have you previously ran?

Wow bullheads.... Good Luck!

Well, I'm only just training for my 1st Marathon this year, not sure if this will be the last one I will ever get to do or the first of many? But I'm in for Chicago for Oct 22nd.

I started out with a Base building program last December/January, on one of my run's I was going too slow and tripped and fell cracking 2 ribs. In May I had major Sugery (non running related) and I'm just now trying to get back to my training again, now I may have some arthritis going on in my left knee? I'm trying to hang in there... I feel if I have to quit...I will never be able to do one, I will feel like a falure because everyone I know is supporting me to do this! I can't let myself down or my friends and family.

Re: What Marathon are you training for?

Hello Forestina!

This is to let you know that I am participating in the Chicago Marathon this year, using the Galloway Method. Please note that it will be, just like you, my first marathon. My run/walk ratio is going to be 5:1 or thereabout. It would be great if we could use each other as pace setters.

Is there any way I could get in touch with you privately to discuss this matter in depth?

Happy training,

Hi, Raw Runner...

What is you running pace initially?
like for 5k's. Shorter week day runs and Weekend Long Run's?

I was running about a 9:50- 10 minute pace before my surgery. My 5k Race pace and for one of my shorter week day Runs. (or at least I hope to be getting back to that pace soon) Currently I'm Running my Weekend long Runs at about a 12 minute pace.

Re: What Marathon are you training for?

Hello Forestina!

Thanks for your reply. It is greatly appreciated.

Currently, I am maffing (low heart rate training) while gallowalking. So for all my runs, I am gallowalking at between 11:45 and 12:30 minutes per mile pace, depending on distance and heat/humidity. Please note that my pace is done at 5:1 ratio at the moment.

In this case, we are pretty much equal at this point in our training. Of course, I don't expect us to "run" together for the entire length of the Chicago Marathon for one reason or another. However, we could still support each other initially and then see how well we fare in maintaining our pace in the later stage of the marathon. Maybe there will be others joining us if they are interested. It would be great if we could get a small group running together only if we all share similar run/walk ratio and pace. What do you think?

Re: What Marathon are you training for?

White Rock for me (December 11) it will be my first Marathon. I am using the training program found in his book "Marathon You Can Do It!" I am on the 2nd week of the 26 week program. I know, a long way to go, but I am approaching it 1 run at a time, 1 week at a time. My plan is to run the first 4 weeks doing 3x1, the second month 3:30x1, etc.... By the time the race is here I should be running around 6x1. Dont know if it will work, but that is the plan... We should start a weekly post to see how we are all doing. Good Luck to all of us!!!

Cape Cod Marathon on 10/29. I followed the 4:00 marathon training program last year for this same race and finished in 3:49:30a BQ for me!

This year I am actually following more of a Pfitzinger training program, but with walk breaks every 2-2.5 miles to mimic walking through the water stations.

Robin

I'm doing the OBX Marathon also. What time goal are you going for? I'm looking for around 4:30 if I do it on my own. But I can probably do anything from 4:15 to 5:00 hours comfortably if you want to run together.

I'm staying there for 6 days since I've never seen the Outer Banks.

Anyone else running OBX.

Based on my long runs, I'll probably have a goal of 5:00 hours. 4:30 would be a longshot goal. Of course, my main goal is to finish.

My wife and I will be staying from Friday to Tuesdaythe last night being on Ocracoke Island as we drive back home. My parents are also coming to see me in the marathon, but aren't staying as long.

--
