Re: Galloway - Getting Started
Thank you Donna for asking this. I was wondering the same thing. I bought the book also. I am a definite beginner! Since I live here in Atlanta, which is where his headquarters are. (like 4 miles from my house) I may join his training program!! We will see how the finances are. Thanks again!!

Re: Galloway - Getting Started
I just ordered the Getting Started book. I ran yesterday, but just couldn't bring myself to do the run/walk thing until I was at mile 4 and my foot and knee started hurting. I really NEED to do this, I just have to get my mind set that it is okay to take walk breaks at the beginning of a run.

Re: Galloway - Getting Started
If you have the book, I would suggest just following the instructions. He says repeatedly that the sooner you take the walk breaks the more they will help. It will build you back to where you are now and beyond but without any injuries.

Atlgal - Do you have an email address? I am an absolute beginner also. Maybe we can inspire each other. Mine is servicemaster@maine.rr.com

Re: Galloway - Getting Started
I just received the book, but it seems to easy to start at the beginning. Any tips on where to start for a seasoned runner coming back from PF? I am not having any foot pain yet, and 3 or 4 miles is fine for me right now. I'm not sure which program to start with.

I know that if you go to Galloway's website and email them they return all emails.

Do they make women's watches that have alarms to help with your run/walk intervals? I find myself constantly looking at my watch to keep track.

Try the Garmin Forerunner 205 for your intervals.

Re: Galloway - Getting Started
I just got the "Getting Started" book today. I just finished W4D1 in the C25K program but I am going to start this program now. What week should I start with...I think I would be fine at the week 5 to start.

Donna - are you doing the Gold program or the Fat Burning program? I'm not sure which one to start.

Also, does anyone know how to rotate the day off? I will probably have Sunday be my day off but sometimes because of my travel schedule I might need to switch things around.

thanks,
Joyce

Re: Galloway - Getting Started
Donna,

Do you use coolrunning's log to log your miles? I would be interested to
have a look, and so would others. I have two of Galloway's books,
Galloway's Book on Running, and Marathonn, you can do it! I don't
have the book you are using, so I don't know what your program looks like.

I must admit that I myself don't use the log! I really prefer pen and paper.
However, I am thinking of using the on-line log so others can track whether
the Galloway program can work for more competitive runners.

Re: Galloway - Getting Started
I do not use the log at this website. I have the two books you mentioned as well as the Getting Started. I am a very new runner and would definately not be classified as a competitive runner. If my log were on here it wouldn't do you any good anyway. I can tell you that there is no way I could run as far as I have (6 miles) without using the Galloway method.

Are there two Donnas on this board? Sorry if I am confused.

Anyway, I'm glad to know that you use the Galloway method to reach six miles. My girlfriend just ran six miles, and like you she would not have been able to reach six miles without taking walk breaks.

However, I would still like to see the training logs of other gallowalkers, competitive or not. It would just be interesting. Though, I understand what a pain it is to have to enter all that data in a computer. I know I don't do it.

What is your general schedule like? I assume you do two maintenance runs and one long run?
