In all fairness to Active, I have used them since probably 2003 to register for 4-6 races each year and never had them charge me anything extra. On the other hand I'm always careful to not check any of the free gifts they offer at the end of race registration.

I check my credit cards online pretty regularly and just have not had any unexpected charges appear. Other than of course, the $1.00 posting fee per post.

Active Advantage is a plus membership to Active.com.  This membership entitles members to discounts on future registrations, rebates, travel expense discounts, and savings with some of our big name partners such as GNC, Ticketmaster, and1-800-Flowers.com.

The membership itself is 100% optional and in most cases begins as a trial membership (unless the membership is purchased outright on the Active Advantage site.) When someone registers online for an event, league or activity through Active.com they are offered a 90 day trial membership to Active Advantage at the end of that registration.  If they click yes to accept the membership they are signed up for the trial membership and we subsequently send three informational emails: one at one week, one at 30 days, and one at 60 days called "Billing and Reminder Emails."

As stated in the offer, once the trial membership period is over the membership is extended for one year at the cost of $49.95.  Members are sent an email stating that this will happen when the trial period ends.  They are also given the choice to cancel the trial at any time by phone or email within the 90 days at no cost.  If they did not intend to sign up for the membership or are not 100% satisfied with the program, we can cancel the membership and issue a refund.
