Re: Fried the iPod
Couldn't believe it when I saw this topic- my shuffle recently started to just "stop" at various points during my runs. This has been happening with more frequency in the past few days- the problem started about 2 weeks ago. First, I thought I needed to charge it more frequently- didn't work. Today it stopped 6-8 times during my run. I have tried relocating it, I usually wear it on the top edge of my tank top or the top of my bra strap, so I thought maybe it was sweat that was causing the problem, so I moved it to the waistband of my shorts, then the brim of my visor- still happens. So far, if I turn if off and on a few times when it cuts out, it has restarted for me, but this is very troublesome during a run to have to do this repeatedly. I have had the shuffle since last Fall and run in all types of weather, rain, snow, wind, nothing seemed to bother it.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is this the preface to it dying altogether?

Re: Fried the iPod
Nice!! I had a digital camera that a friend dropped into a stream! D'oh.

I waited about a week and tried the thing, it kinda powered up, but didn't do much. I gave up on it. But about a month later, for some reason, I picked it up and, lo and behold, it works perfectly!

Glad to hear yours came back to life!!

Not to hijack this thread, but this statement really struck me:

"I've never run without music before and I almost panicked."

I never run WITH music -- except that which I make with my own breathing and footsteps. To each their own, I guess.

But I'm curious, how to you folks avoid getting hit by cars you don't hear coming?

i do not listen to music on my long run, but do for some of my shorter runs. I do not worry about getting hit by cars because i run a closed loop at a national park. I do not listen very loud and can hear pretty much everything. You make lots of assumptions, eh?

Here we go again...
How do deaf ppl run and not get hit? You use your eyes and/or keep the volume at a reasonable level.
Guess what- I can walk and chew gum at the same time, too.

Re: Fried the iPod
I asked a question; I made no assumptions. Although, in truth, I harbor some of the latter.

Suffice it to say, I love music, too. My out of control CD collection is evidence of that. But I don't mix my music with running. If I did, I doubt I would be as "in tune" with my pacing.

And no, I'm not just a Luddite refusing to download CDs to an iPod or incapable of selecting tracks with the appropriate rpms for running or whatever. I just compartmentalize my activities.

And I haven't been hit by a truck yet either.

Re: Fried the iPod
tommy,
Great that your ipod is back. I may try the water thing myself as mine lasted for 4 miles today then shut done.

BTW only 50% of the time I listen to music. The rest of the time I listen to triathlon or running podcasts or talk shows. It makes those Sunday 20 mile runs by myself much easier.

As a former resident of Phoenix, let me get this straight. You actually sweat while on your runs? It doesn't just evaporate before it can get to your Ipod?
