Kayanos or 2120s?

As you can tell by the subject line, I'm a loyal Asics guy. I've been wearing the 2000 line since I've been running. I'm giving serious consideration of "upgrading" my shoes and am thinking about the Kayanos. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Kayanos or 2120s?
I'm a loyal Asics wearer, and have a pair of each: Kayano (several years of models, model 9, 10, 11, 13) and of the 2120 (and its predecessors). I prefer the Kayano. I find it to have better forefoot cushioning, and to wear longer (more miles) than the 2120. I was hoping to save a few bucks with my most recent 2120's, but found as I was increasing my long runs training for a half-mary, that the pounding made it too trying, so I went right back to Kayano and was very glad to be back in them.

Re: Kayanos or 2120s?
I find the 2120s are wider in the forefoot than the Kayanos which is more comfortable with my wide feet! Also, the 2120s have more support than the Kayanos - they will offer more correction if you over pronate. I'm not sure the Kayanos are necessarily an "upgrade". They're just different!

While some people can "get away with" using either the Nimbus or the Kayano (or 2120), they are very different types of shoes.

The Kayano and 2120 are stability shoes, and have a denser material on the medial arch to limit pronation.

The Nimbus is a neutral shoe, and has no such feature.

What about the Kinsei? I have both Gel Nimbus 8 and the 2120. I use the Nimbus for treadmill and street runs and the 2120 for trail and street. I like the Nimbus much better than the 2120 but don't want to beat up the Nimbus on the trails.

I just ordered a pair of Kinsei's, just to try them out. They're not here yet but am excited to give them a try.

Well, I went to the local specialty running store and tried on both Kayanos and 2120s. the guy then suggested the Brooks Transcendent. Hmmmm<HR>

Everyone has different feet. I love this forum cause you can get info about the quality of a shoe, or how a certain model measures up to last years . . . (i've been sold on the DS Trainers for a few model years....)

....but ultimately, you just have to try 'em on!! Then, if you like them, buy 5 pairs. Seriously. You'll kick yourself when you find the perfect shoe and then have to go through the entire process again in 4 months. Once I've supported my local running store... I like watching the big online shoe companies for "buy one get one 50% off" or some similar sale...

Once again, the Kinsei is a totally different type of shoe than they Kayano or 2120.

The Kinsei, whilst being incredibly expensive, is also a neutral shoe.

Perhaps you are one of those folks who can take a neutral or stability shoe.

Sheesh, though, at $165 for the CURRENT Kinsei, and something like $185 for the new Kinsei (coming out in October or Novenber, I believe), I'd just stick to the Nimbus.

I just upgraded my pair of gt-2090 to a new pair
of 2120. The 2120s seems looser in the heel
