CamelBaks

Those of you that use these.......do you ever put Gatorade in the bladder and if so how do you make sure you clean it out effectively?

TIA

James

Re: CamelBaks
I asked this recently because I have started using gatorade - vinegar was a popular suggestion to put in between uses. Someone also suggested generic denture tablets that are used to soak dentures overnight, since these are supposed to kill bacteria. I just picked up a box of these this morning ($4 for 90 tablets) because the vinegar is just so foul smelling.

I am curious to hear from anyone who responds to your post as to how many (if any) people wear camelbaks for either half or full marathons?

Re: CamelBaks
I usually only use water in mine, but in my old one i did use gatorade on occasion and would rinse in a diulte bleach mixture or with baking soda.

Re: CamelBaks
Baking Soda and water with lemon juice mixed in works great!

I have worn a Camel Bak on a few long runs (in excess of 20 miles), but I really don't like it because it chafes. I like to carry hand-helds instead. I either stash water/gatorade, have somebody meet me with supplies about the half way point, or else design my route where I can re-fuel. Besides, Camelbaks can be pretty heavy just starting out. I prefer to save those for hiking.

Re: CamelBaks
i got a 50oz camelbak and wear it on my long runs as well as at a 50 mile race this weekend. It did not bother me and was not heavy at all. However, i learned that if the aid station does not fill it properly, you can easily run out of water, not good in 100F weather!!

Re: CamelBaks
Ditto on the mouthwash rinse. I buy a large bottle of generic listerine-type mouthwash. My cambelbak drink is a blend of gatorade and ice tea. Never any nasties growing in there. I'd hesitate to try anything with lemon juice, since that's full of sugar.
