Garmin Software

Hi
Apologies if this topic has been aired before, but I have been using my 205 since March and happily loading my daily runs on to the training centre. Then, about 3 weeks ago, all my data from March, April, May and June (except for one day in June only!) vanished off the history. I contacted Garmin and have tried all sorts of things that they have to suggested to retrieve my data but all to no avail. I now back up all my history, which is just as well as now it seems to have lost yesterdays run (the day before is there though). So I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and has found a way to retrieve lost data and prevent it happening.

Re: Garmin Software
It's possible that all of the data is still on your PC. It's all saved somewhere and if you moved that folder (hopefully not into the recycle bin) the Training Center won't know what you did with it. I don't know the file extensions for the GPS data for sure, but you can try doing a search for *.gpx files.

As an aside, have you tried the SportTracks software (free download here[/URL" target="_blank">). I love it MUCH more than the Training Center nonsense that Garmin provides.

Hope this helps.

Re: Garmin Software
I had the same thing happen several times but fortunately was able to re-sync my ForeRunner 305 and download all the data again.

What I noticed was that if you leave TC open and the computer crashes or shuts down without TC closing gracefully, it seems like you lose your history. I haven't nailed this down 100% yet but that appears to be the pattern. My Norton Internet Security would force restarts and I'd leave TC open and lose data. So if it happens again, I just re-import the history TCX file.

As a general rule, I export my history every time I sync my ForeRunner with TC. Of course my history file is HUGE at this point and I tend to make more than one copy while doing so.

Re: Garmin Software
Another vote for "Sporttracks". The Garmin software just stinks.
