Garmin 305 no sound

When I first got my Garmin it alerted me every mile with a load ring, now after a month the ring is so low I can't hear it. Has anyone had this problem with the Garmin 305. I felt at first the sound was little to loud but now I miss it and can't seem to get the volume up. Anyone have an idea?

Re: Garmin 305 no sound
Same problem here. I e-mailed Garmin Support and got this back from them this morning. I haven't done it yet since you lose all your history, but I guess I'll try it because I can't hear distance alerts anymore since they are so low.

Garmin's Reply:

From what you describe your unit is not functioning correctly. To correct this issue I would suggest that you master reset your unit to clear out any corrupt data. This will clear out all data in the unit and reset it to factory defaults and settings.

Following are instructions on how to perform a Master Reset on your unit: -- With the unit powered off, Press and hold the Mode and Power button at the same time. You will then see a screen that says, "Do you really want to erase all user data Yes/NO" Select Yes and the unit will be reset. After the master reset please place your unit outside so that it has a clear view of the sky for 25 to 30 minutes so that the unit can acquire new almanac data. I would also suggest going to our website at the following link and updating your units operating system. http://www.garmin.com/products/webupdater[/URL" target="_blank">

Edited to say: If you try this and it corrects the problem please post back with your results. I'm really hesitant about deleting my history until after my marathon. I want to see that big fat mileage number from all my training and the race.

Had the same problem with my 205. Tried the master reset but it did still did not work. Luckily it was still under warranty so I sent it to Garmin to repair and they ended up sending me a brand new unit. About a 10 day turn around time.

Re: Garmin 305 no sound
I've got bigger problems now. Somehow on my 18 miler yesterday sweat got inside the case and my Garmin froze up and then later went off. Now I can see moisture under the display. I think my sound problem may have been an early symptom of moisture. I've got another e-mail into Garmin about it and can only think the solution is to send it in for repair.

How loud is loud?
How does the volume of the 205 or 305 compare to a Timex Sleek Ironman?

Really? They were great with me. Responses both times. Call them up. You may have to be on hold for awhile but once you get through they are extremely helpful. They had me send mine in for repair and even though it was a month out of warranty, they are going to repair it as if it was. Everything's been great so far in my dealings with them. Of course I haven't gotten it back yet so I guess the quality of my repair will be the final say.

Re: Garmin 305 no sound
I'd really like it if someone whose familiar with both the 205/305 and the Timex Sleek Ironman and who knows that their 205/305 is functioning properly with regard to audibility, could give a volume comparison. I've had a 205 for almost two weeks now and it's nowhere as loud as my Timex. The only problem with hearing it is when I'm running really fast and breathing really hard.
