Running Mantras

So what's yours? (this thread often pops up in Newbies, is usually quite amusing)
Mine was - "Pass the skinnies, pass the skinnies" but will likely be "2:29:59, 2:29:59, ...." for my next 1/2 Marathon in March

No DNF, no DNF, no DNF.
Pretty simple. J9
I have two..one is not very lady like...."Move your fat A$$", Move your fat A$$.
The other is I count to 16. Why 16? Because during many a boring treadmill mile, I have discovered that I take 16 steps to a hundredth mile. Or 160 steps to a tenth...Whatever...it makes the time go by.

Training - It has always been: "God may not have blessed me with a lot of running talent, but he did bless me with a will to train harder than you"
Racing When it hurts real bad: "You haven't pushed too hard until you pass out"
When I am trying to finish up that last mile or half mile I tell myself "Anyone can run a mile...therefore, so can you!"
Well my first race ever is only about 37 days away and I tell myself each day that " for once you will finish something a goal you set over 20 years ago" so far so good.

"You can have a victory without winning"

When Training: Rome wasn't built in a day
During a big race...the Rocky song "Gonna fly now"....it makes me cry and get the chills, I have it come on around mile 12 twice, the end is sweet!
For ages, it's been Van Morrison's "Moondance". The was a 1/2 marathon where a woman said she watched me dance for 7 miles. If it isn't fun, why bother. I need to remember this as I'm working on speed. I started placing more and now it's become more of a goal. Having fun should be my goal. Running safe should be a goal. Everything else is a bonus.

I don't have a mantra, but sometimes I get CCR's run through the jungle going through my head on trail runs.
Not really a mantra, but I count steps per minute. It kind of a gauge on pace and once I count for the minute, it feel like one minute down, one less to go.
Got a keep on movin'
Keep right on movin'
Oh, yeah
from Bob Seger's Travelin' Man
This is sorta "running related' but when going out in the recent (& recently ended) bitter cold weather, rather than shivering and being miserable until I ran enough to warm up, I'd puff my chest out, hold my head up, and tell myself, repeatedly, "embrace the cold."

"The ball is in my court" The first 5k I did the night before I was nervous and was telling my brother I didn't think I could do it to which he replied it seems like the ball is in your court. I recited that frequently the next day and frequently since.
One that was quite helpful on the last 20 mile training run that I did was "Pain is weakness leaving the body". Seemed to give a purpose to my aching legs and keep me from wanting to give up !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|border=0!
Oh the same note, sometimes "This is making you stronger" is also a helpful one! I see it as referring to physical strength, but also mental
