First 10K this Sat.

So I got my first ever 10K coming up in a couple of days.

I'm nervous.

I'll give you my quick rundown.

Started running (walking and wheezing really) at 400lbs.
Currently weigh 278lbs.
One half marathon complete with a time of 2:20.

My goal for Sat.10K, is to finish under an hour.

This one's for my peeps, the 'heavy' runners.

Anty, you'll do awesome! Make sure you are hydrated before and you'll be fine. Your HM time is great, I would love mine to be that. Good luck. I expect to see another amazing race report from you.

I don't intend this to be derogatory in any way, but a half marathon time of 2:20 at 278 pounds is outstanding. I hope you're entering races with Clydesdales divisions or belong to a running club with Clydesdales divisions. Shoot for an hour!

Re: First 10K this Sat.
Tag,

I really hope you enjoy the race. I like 10Ks. They are difficult enough that you know you've done something but not as draining (or time consuming!) as longer distance races IMHO.

I hope you'll give us another one of your stellar race reports. "Run Like Tag" is still an anthem after your HM report.

All my best,
Billy

Re: First 10K this Sat.
Good luck. One hour can be tough for a 10K especially if you haven't raced it before. Nonetheless, it's doable given your half marathon time, but don't get discouraged. 10Ks used to be the staple of road racing; now they're rare.

Re: First 10K this Sat.
Best of luck Antagonist! Wonderful job on the weight loss too...that's awesome.

For the race, don't go out too fast. Find that 9:35 to 9:40 pace early on, and then you can gauge how you feel at the 5K point. If you feel good, pick it up a bit...or simply hang on to that pace for dear life.

No matter what you run, though...you are to be commended on your successes up to this point.

Re: First 10K this Sat.
That's fantastic! The best thing is that know you have a real target - you know that you can run under 1 hour for your next 10K. Then, 59 ... 58 ... 57 ... 56 ...
