Re: You took an easy to use site and screwed it up....
Well, I guess compared so come of you, I'm a newbie. I started using this site in may after finally being able to start a running career. I didn't count on this site for motivation or anything of that nature, just a way to see my stats and progress when I wanted to. And I like to software. Been in computer software for quite a while, so change isn't a big deal to me. But this is just beyond, well, anything. All I can do is shake my head. I'm just confused. I don't think myself an idiot but this site sorta' makes me think I might.

So I give up. I was able, after a few great links from folks, to get an *.xls of my logs and now I'm off. Done with the site. I have no use for it now. It's worthless. I will use a spread sheet and set it up on my own server to have access to when I need it.

As goes with my wife. So you've lost two.

The only thing to really say is you screwed this up big time and there ain't no fixin' it.

Re: You took an easy to use site and screwed it up....

Sara- It takes a big (wo)man to admit their mistake. Thanks. But can you convince your management to listen to what people are saying? Tip- Investigate your retention percentage- How many former Cool Running users have been retained and are actively logging running data in Active Trainer? My guess is the number is extremely low, in the single digits.

I've already given up myself. I've followed your directions, I get no "merge" button anywhere. Sure, I was able to get into Active Trainer, but there was no data there and no merge button to bring in the data. I myself am officially gone, I've uploaded all my data to RunningAhead.

You've posted a bunch of BS about how the old Cool Running system can no longer support the data. Here's a tip to fix it, and get your old users back. TURN THE CR LOG BACK ON- and don't allow any new accounts temporarily. The in the meantime, upgrade the Cool Running system so it can support the data. Its only a couple $k to buy a new data server. Hire a software consultant for a couple months.

Re: You took an easy to use site and screwed it up....

For those as frustrated as me with the transition to Active, I recommend you look at 'running ahead'. Although not CR, the log is very similar and it now can be automatically converted with a litte bit of work (on the shoe log). The site is easy to navigate (unlike active), it is a running site (unlike active) and the webmaster listens to inputs (unlike active). Give it try!

Sorry CR and Active, but I only like change when change is for the better.

Re: You took an easy to use site and screwed it up....

After some round-abouts i was able to get to a page that asked me if I want to merge my data, so I did. Then I waited a day to check out the new trainer, poked around. (You can't help but have to go to many different pages to find what you're looking for).

I have to scratch my head about why take something that used to take 1 click to navigate, record all my data, to having to click on several pages. For example, I want to log a workout. The trainer takes me to a whole month calendar. Then I click on the day. Then have to click on "add a workout". Then to another page, select running from the workout menu, click "next" then it takes me to yet ANOTHER page to enter my information. Then hit "save". Since I am tracking my shoe mileage, I have to select the "Tools" tab, go to "Shoe Tracker", select the "Add Mileage" next to the shoe I just logged a workout on, enter the mileage I just logged. Plus I can't see my shoe mileage in the calendar. I have to go to "shoe tracker" to see them (yet another step).

This is ridiculous. It used to be simple, intuitive and easy to use. Now it requires multiple steps to just log a workout and track my shoe mileage. I also don't like the "add a workout" menu to the right side. Took me a while to see it. Sometimes I do 2 different workouts in a day and I was getting irritated when I couldn't figure out how to add my other workout. Finally found it because it wasn't obvious.

PLEASE BRING BACK THE COOLRUNNING LOG!

Re: You took an easy to use site and screwed it up....
I agree with everyone here, even the forum page is now dull and boring. I can't even find my mileage for the week, year or month!! I am assuming I have to pay for that. I will stick it out until the end of the year and if it's not better...see ya.

Re: You took an easy to use site and screwed it up....

Sara,

It took three times to login into this wasteland, and once again i dont want an apology. You ruined a perfectly good site and i dont wan any of that it had to be done. Maybe it, did but comon your the front runner for all of the bs. They sent you out to do two thing, 1 try nd handle damage control to try and keep people or just wait it out to its done. Its been a week and something could of been something. The message board is horrible. No one need TWO different kinds of text. I should of just stop when the forum did not let me in, heck it would not let me make a new account. Whats proven me that the owners and runners of the site have nothing more than there heads in the toilet, you have how many other forums which i know people have complained about but once again ur waitng game wil pay off and the hype will die down. I know i wont be coming back here to complain, you could of atleast keep the board the same

Re: You took an easy to use site and screwed it up....
Agree with all that they really hosed this one. I recall that we were told we would have our running log plus the additional support that came with active.com. What we got instead was something that is next to useless, requires multiple screens for data entry, and has little of the functionality of the Cool Running log. I was finally able to figure out the link between the log entry and the shoe tracker, but refuse to pay $9.95 a month to see how the link between the running log and running route works. The lack of ability to track cumulative mileage (how could they miss that one) or generate the simple reports and graphs like the CR site. Of course, I believed them that the transition would be transparent and didn't download my data from CR, so I've now lost 3 years of easy to search running logs, race results, and PR info. If they really want to retain us as members/users, suggest they restore the CR log for us to use while they work out all of the bugs. While many of us may not come back anyway because of the bad taste in our mouth (my wife heard me complaining as i muddled through the new log and I suspect I'll find running log software under mt tree on Tuesday), it shows a good faith effort to solve all of the problems.

Re: You took an easy to use site and screwed it up....
The only way I will ever come back to the Active.com running log is if you take the old Coolrunning log and virtually copy it exactly with the exact same features and ease of use. Then, I will come back and use that log, because it was simply the best log out there! Until then, I will be logging my running at another site. Bring back the old Coolrunning log please! Agreed, change is only good if it is an improvement which this Active log is most assuredly not! Why were you selling this as an UPGRADE?

Re: You took an easy to use site and screwed it up....
Well here's my $0.02. For whatever reason Cool Running sold out to the loser site Active whatever. I feel they let a gold mine slip through their fingers. In my opinion the Cool Running users would have gladly paid some $$ a year to keep the site going. Remember, we are a group that can justify purchasing $90.00 non-fashion, non-endorsed sneakers 3 or 4 times a year.

And about this security thing. Who gives a rip if somebody wants to tap a running log.

Re: You took an easy to use site and screwed it up....
I've been waiting for a response from Active on how I could get my training log data. My orginal request was 3 weeks ago. Since I wasn't holding my breath, I typed in the last quarter of data onto the Runners World website because it is unlikely they will be bought out byy Active. For my race data, I go to the Running TImes Website. I will do everything I can to never go to anyy Active sites after posting this. I have no respect for anyone associated with this fiasco.

Re: You took an easy to use site and screwed it up....
I really dislike this new log. There are way too many steps involved when all I want to do is log my workout and see my mileage. I like having all my data in one place, but I think I'm going to have to find a new online running log.

Re: You took an easy to use site and screwed it up....

Please try the link below to rescue/export your data from the old log before the link dries up. It really does work.

http://www.coolrunning.com/cgi-bin/log/display.cgi?u=myusername;s=coolrun

Substitute _your _username in the address where it says "myusername" and delete the ";s=coolrun".

Thank You Janinsanfran!!!!!!! I had a lot of memories that I though were gone forever. Interestingly, I was able to use the old log and update my weekend runs before exporting. I wonder if this portal to the glorious past will remain viable???

You can use the old "Tools" to export your log

Re: You took an easy to use site and screwed it up....

It's bad enough that they created a useless website to move our information to. It's even worse that they damaged our information (and don't let them tell you otherwise). It's even worse that they take forever to give us information. It's worse that they charge money (and say they don't). It's bad enough that they created a message board that doesn't work well in may regards (one, for example, is that this is the second time I've written this post - they lost the first one). But now I get emails telling and reminding me of this awful experience.

I hope that no one stays on with Active. All coolrunners should go elsewhere, and maybe Active members will find other and better sites.

I'm using runningahead.com. It has some very nice features, is hands on, responsive, and is selfmotivating. The only problem is that I have to put back in the distances on my courses (the courses are listed, but not the distances) - but this gives me the time to update some course information.

Does anyone have any other sites worth looking at. I hope the this post is listed this time.

Ditto--I keep trying to be open minded and use the site but it stinks big time. I ma back to the old fashioned writing on a calendar for now. Years of data gone
