Re: LOL 12/30 (NY Resolutions, anyone?)

I am glad to hear some of us are not college aged single folks! I am 39 with 2 children a wonderful husband and a full time job where I travel. I live in GA, which is certainly a benefit this time of year with running outside! I am not sure how those of you who must contend with snow and ice are able to fare, so I am extremely impressed. If it gets below 40 degrees here, it is truly considered cold weather. I used to live in the north so I know how ridiculous that sounds, but it is the truth! Below 40 degree weather is a rarity!

I hope everyone's New Year's Day runs are outstanding! It is D2 of WK6 for me today! :D

Re: LOL 12/30 (NY Resolutions, anyone?)

I haven't been online much over the holidays, but I have been keeping up with the program - finished week 6 on Sunday and will be doing W7D1 tomorrow. My "resolution" for 2008 is to complete the 9 qualifying races I'll need for guaranteed entry to the 2009 NYC Marathon. Until now, it has seemed like an almost insurmountable task, but these last couple of weeks have finally started to feel like I'm no longer a beginner.

It's great to read all the great stories and inspiration from everyone - it really does make a difference.

I didn't post this with my original goals, but I actually also share York's goal of completing the 9 qualifying races needed in 2008 to gain entry to the NYC marathon in 2009. I figure it's probably the easiest way of making sure I get in, and it will be fun to boot.

Re: LOL 12/30 (NY Resolutions, anyone?)
Thanks Lizard for the welcome.

Today, I finished W7D2.

I felt with little energy in the morning, maybe because our little baby kept waking up all the night. My wife and I had a terrible night. Fortunately, nothing important, he was just asking for some attention. Maybe because I ran really fast on Monday.

I ran slowly, at about 12 minutes per mile and keeping my heart rate below 160bpm. Friday will be a better day !!

Keep running,

JC

Re: LOL 12/30 (NY Resolutions, anyone?)

Happy New Year everyone!!

What a great way to start the new year - with a good habit! I really feel like this running thing is becoming a habit! You couldn't have told me that would be the case about 2 months ago!

I just finished W7D3 - not easy, but it's done. I'm trying to build up some speed and combine the distance goal with a good time. I'm getting closer, but I'm a little worried that I won't have a good 5K time by the middle of February. I'm just hoping not to embarass myself too badly.

I'll start week 8 this weekend.

CHEERS!

Re: LOL 12/30 (NY Resolutions, anyone?)

Lizard, you're the greatest for keeping track of everything! W7D1 is now complete for me. I did it after work today in the FREEZING cold! It was about 20 degrees, around 15 with the windchill. Brr! On top of that, this was my first run without music (I was afraid to use the iPod after dark, for safety reasons). But I had a good run! W7D2 will be Friday.

Go team!

I totally agree - NYC was brutal last night. I also completed W7D1, but on the treadmill in the nice warm gym. NewYorkChick - you are really hardcore!

Re: LOL 12/30 (NY Resolutions, anyone?)

Haha, thanks you guys! I don't belong to a gym, so the TM wasn't an option for me. Although I don't really mind running in the cold, I probably should join a gym so I have access to a TM in case it's really icy or whatnot... but I much prefer running outside.

Hey LOLers,

Re: LOL 12/30 (NY Resolutions, anyone?)
Hey, good job slwrunner. I'm glad you pushed through and made it. Doesn't it feel great?!! Don't worry about going slow, just keep going.

Love this place! I finished wk7 today. It was definitely one of my coldest running days, plus it was windy. I can handle the cold, but the wind just
makes me crazy. It looks like we have a warming trend, I'm really looking forward to it.

Good luck everyone!

Re: LOL 12/30 (NY Resolutions, anyone?)
Well... W7D2 complete, kind of. I was only able to run for 21 minutes today. :( I just couldn't make it. I think it was a combination of being too tired (I got up earlier than usual to run) and the freezing cold, which has still not let up. It is 21 degrees at the moment, but feels like 9 with the windchill according to weather.com. In hindsight, I believe I started off too fast today because it was so cold and I just wanted to get warm.

Anyway, since I made it through the previous two 25-minute runs just fine, I think I am going to just chalk this up to a bad run and move on to D3 on Sunday as planned. If I can get through that, then I will continue to W8 next week as scheduled. It's supposed to warm up a lot this weekend (40s or so) so that should help.

It's a bummer but I'm trying not to let it get me down. I figure I still did better than the thousands of people who probably decided it was too cold to run at all this morning :)
