One step closer to the door--email notifications

Why should this transition get slack because it was just before the holidays? It was your choice as to the timing of the transition.

Now, in addition to taking 3 minutes and 35 seconds (yes, I timed it to make a point) to get logged in to make this post, I have to delete scores of notifications in my email that I never signed up for. Those are a great motivator for me to stop posting, I don't have time to put up with that.

My patience for fixes is getting very, very thin.

Re: One step closer to the door--email notifications

Obviously log-in issues are important. There are comments to that effect on the 50+ thread. And people are finding their computers crashing.

All I can say is that it generally takes me 3 times to log-in, no more than 20 seconds, on either Windows XP or Vista, using Firefox. So while I've had little problem, that you and others have makes it an issue that requires resolution from the site, not the user. As I said elsewhere, I hope Andy sticks it out because he is one of the more valuable members of the community.

Andy

We don't always agree on everything, but I am sure with you on the email issue!

I just sent an e-mail myself to please STOP with all these notifications. Seems like every time anyone posts on any forum I have ever posted on, I get a notification. Maybe if in were about threads I have started myself, it would be OK, but it's way more than that.

On the positive side, logging on doesn't seem to be a problem any more for me the last 2 days.

Re: One step closer to the door--email notifications
While I haven't had any problems with the "login", it is annoying to get an email about something I posted in a thread over a month ago. I really don't want any emails.

Re: One step closer to the door--email notifications
The forum's default setting should be to turn e-mail notifications OFF. Should be a very simple fix....

juststarted, I meant the FORUM's software, not your individual settings. E-mail notifications should be shut off by default, for everyone...

Re: One step closer to the door--email notifications
I haven't searched far enough to shut off e-mail notifications totally, maybe I should, but I did figure something out. Everytime I post, it changes my preferences for that thread and automatically sends me notifications. To change it, from inside that thread, look for "actions" on the left. It should let you shut off notifications there. This is a pain in the rear to remember for every thread you post in, but it's seemed to work for me. Man I hope they get this all fixed soon. I'm getting tired of logging in all the time, then having to find where I was before logging in.

Re: One step closer to the door--email notifications
I just received 33 emails. How do I shut off email other than deleting my account? I repled over 2000 times in the previous "Cool Running". Under this system, that would generate over 100,000 emails. Why would I want that many emails? Please respond before I delete my account.

Re: One step closer to the door--email notifications

OK, it took me about 5 tries to login and answer this. (I encountered yet again the dreaded -- CAS is Unavailable).

Anyway, I started getting email notification, too, and decide to edit preferences and set all the email notifications to "no," but I was still getting them. Then I figured out the problem. The default is to subscribe you to email notifications for any thread you've replied to. Once you are suscribed to a thread, the only way to unsubscribe is to go to that thread and log in (good luck), look to the left and click on "stop email notifications" (or whatever it says). You have to do this for all the threads you've replied to. Each time get a new email notification go to the thread and stop email notifications. Eventually you won't get any more.

Here's a suggestion to Active: make it easy to see a list of all threads for which email notificiation are set and offer some kind of control for being able toggle email notifications on or off.

Re: One step closer to the door--email notifications
I just go 123 emails. So, I am going to change my email address to something bogus until you fix this site. Why would anyone want all those emails. Are you people really that stupid.

Re: One step closer to the door--email notifications
I just got another 10 emails. That's 133 and it's only 10:05. I changed my email address which required me to open another account, but I can still log in under my previous account. This place is a nightmare.

Re: One step closer to the door--email notifications
Hey Everybody,

The default is to subscribe you to email notifications for any thread you've created or replied to. To change this default setting, log into your MyActive profile, then go to the "Actions" menu and click on "Edit Preferences". Here you can make the changes to your email notification settings:

Always subscribe via email to threads I create: Change from Yes to No
Always subscribe via email to threads I reply to: Change from Yes to No

For threads you are currently subscribed to, go to that thread and click the link on the left hand side under "Actions" that says "stop receiving email notifications" to unsubscribe.

Please let us know via this board or private messaging if you are still receiving notifications after changing your settings. We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you. ~Toby

Re: One step closer to the door--email notifications
Hey all,

We can remove all of your current notifications if you would like. Just let me know if you want to delete your current notifications and I'll make sure the settings for your account get reset.

Thanks!

Re: One step closer to the door--email notifications

I am getting email notifications but only for the thread I wish to recieve them from. Aside from the Preferences on/off switches, there are 3 levels of notifactions, at the Community Level (All CR Forums), Forum Level (All Discussions in that forum), and the Thread Level (all posts in a certian thread). So for me, it seems to working the way I think it should. Maybe I'm just lucky! Now watch me get flooded with other unwanted stuff!! lol
