Insanely Cold Runs lately??

I ran last night in the coldest weather I have experienced yet, which was about 20 degrees when factoring in the wind chill. Happily I was dressed warmly enough. For those of you more used to this type of weather, do you have any tips?

before I got sick I was running in -10C to -14 weather. only thing I can really say is layer up and go. I'm hoping to get back to outside running once my city is cleaned up a bit (3 snowstorms in 1 week).

Re: Insanely Cold Runs lately??
This mornings run was 9F with a 7mph wind, so it felt like it was -2F (based on the National Weather Service's wind chill formula).

No big secrets here -- make sure there's no cotton next to the skin (wicking clothes are your friend), add a layer or two, making sure the outermost layer is at least somewhat wind-resistant. Cover your head and ears. Gloves are good.

Here's what I wore: long sleeve technical shirt, UnderArmour Coldgear heavy fleece-type jacket, Underarmour Coldgear heavy pants, EarGrips, Brooks Nightlife ball cap, light UnderArmour gloves. I was chilly heading out, but by the time I'd run a half mile, I was warming up nicely. Around 1.5 miles, I was getting toasty. By the end of the three miles, I was quite warm.

The only thing I'd add to this morning's gear would be something to cover my face. I've had my eye on the Psolar.Ex cold weather facemasks for a while. Might be time to pick one up before the air temp drops below 0F!

Hope that helped.

Yeah. I just finished one. My lunchtime 5-miler. The temp is 14*F but we also have a steady 20mph wind out of the NW so the wind chill is around 0*F. It wasn't bad with the wind at my back, but running into the wind was brutal. It made my wee-wee cold.

Yup, did 6.5 miles at 1 degree with a windchill of -14! I was up for the challenge and layered everything but my socks. It really wasn't bad. It's not unilke trail running with the sidewalks all snow covered. It felt strange to cross the street with clear pavement.

The Balaclava saved me.
