Re: What events are on your radar for 2008?

Rockstar, thanks for the tips. My GF is registered for the Full in Phoenix to get the Desert Star medal. We ran the San Jose 1/2 in Oct, first time for either one of us participating in an RnR event. I'm not a seasoned marathoner, just a converted half-miler from the late 70's and early 80's. So all this long slow distance stuff is new for this "old" guy. I'm planning on San Diego to be my first Full ever.

I've studied the Phoenix course and it looks fine. I hope it is not as cool at the start as last year, I don't particularly like running in the cool weather. I wasn't aware of the hills in Nashville, so thanks for the warning. To avoid the crowd maybe I can get into one of the front corrals again for Nashville, for both San Jose last Oct and Phoenix coming in Jan I'm in corral 2. For San Diego I think I know the bridge over the waterway you refer to. Looks like miles 8 - 10 are uphill going back through Balboa Park. Should be an interesting year.

Re: What events are on your radar for 2008?
Boston Marathon in April
Gulf Coast Triathlon in May
Peachtree Road Race in July
Atlanta Marathon in November
California International Marathon in December

Looking at the Air Force Marathon in 2008 (any feedback would be welcomed in regards to this race.) Also looking at one of the Escape from Events (Florida or the Columbia River gorge.)

And more 5 and 10k's then I can list at this time.

Re: What events are on your radar for 2008?

Too many races, too little time!

For now, I've got these on my radar screen. But in reality, I can't do them all since a couple of them actually are held on the same weekend. Tough choices!

_ New Year's Eve: the 4 miler in Central Park

_ January: NYC half marathon in Central Park

_ February: Bronx half marathon

_ March: ING Georgia half marathon/Mardi Gras half marathon in New Orleans

_ August: Manhattan half marathon

_ September: Wicked half marathon in Salem, Mass.

_ Sept/Oct: Hamptons half marathon on Long Island

Plus, I'm still waiting to see the dates for these but the half marathons in Brooklyn, Queens and on Staten Island.

I'm keeping my eyes open for other runs.

Re: What events are on your radar for 2008?

I just completed my first marathon in October (Detroit). I'd like to go to Cleveland in May but I'm not sure how to approach the mid-to-late Winter training in Michigan. Should I gut out the long runs in the snow / ice / dark, or stick to the treadmill? If I stay with the treadmill, do I need to run longer/farther to be better prepared for outdoor marathon????

Re: What events are on your radar for 2008?
I plan to participate in my 2nd Peachtree Road Race in the ATL for sure. Relocating to Ft. Belvoir, VA and have my eyes on the Cherry Blossum Run, the Army 10-miler, the run for women over 40 in Central Park this spring, and any 5K/10K runs held on my days off. Any active members of running clubs in the Alexandria area?????????
