Shelia - for each thread you have answered you need to turn off e-mail notification - that is int he action box on the left toward the top of the screen then you need to go to your default preferances and turn off e-mail for future threads

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Dec 30th

OMG, I'm gonna be sore tomorrow!  I spent 1.5 hours this afternoon with my FABULOUS neighbor - she taught me some pilates basics and gave me lots of skills/exercises to practice and strengthen my core (back, abs, pelvic floor) and we worked on arms, quads, stretching and balance too.  WOW - she's an awesome teacher!  From now on out we'll meet once weekly for an hour.  Is quite $$ - have to figure that one out - may have to adjust a few things in the ol' budget and perhaps taper down the visits after the first few mos.  We'll see.  Thanks again for your support - how amazing you guys are...

MARILYN - great hearing from you - we have been missing you!

RUNJR - good for you on your runs this past week - how many miles have you run this past week??  WOW!

OK - going to bed pretty soon...if I can hoist myself up off the couch...OW!!!!!!!

HAPPY WEEKEND!  --Laurel

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Dec 30th

Good morning all, hopefully everyone is running as no one has posted for almost 12 hours. I have been getting the email messages again and again when someone posts here even though I turn the notifications off at the thread level. I'm trying in my preferences to see if that works. Anyone else having those issues.

Chuck where have you been? It has to be warmer now.

misswendy - thanks for the pic, that is normal around here.

laurel - Personal trainer, you are getting serious. Way to go!

joe - I think this is your long run day or when do you back down for your HM next weekend?

spicegeek - you are really working hard and that is impressive.

cara - are you runing today? It is better that I just learned of Steve Runner from Joe because there are so many podcasts that I haven't listened to.

take care all I will post again later, not sure if I'm taking the day off and going for a long run tomorrow afternoon.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Dec 30th

Happy Saturday, all!

Our "heat wave" has us just barely over the freezing mark, and it's raining--one of those really raw days. So I opted for the treadmill, got in ~50 min. and a little ab work. Hopefully tomorrow will be a little drier.

Laurel, sounds like you got quite the workout--way to go! And you got the shoes resolved, that's good. Stan, take it easy on that knee. Good runs to all! Anyone settling in for some football? Gotta find out who the Colts will play next weekend

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Dec 30th

Hey All

Well I made it through Friday without loosing my train ticket and now have a long weekend. I've taken Monday off work as it's my birthday... I'm turning 29 and 12 months as I keep telling everyone.

Didn't run yesterday in the end either as all my trains were cancelled due to various problems so I was really late home again. Not having much luck with those trains this week I did get on my stepper though and did some strength training at home. I got my run in today aiming for 9, but only had time for 8.2 We had someone coming to measure up for a new kitchen, but they were late, so I didn't get out until 11:15. I had a friend due in the afternoon, and as I ran past my house at 8.2 I noticed that they had arrived, so I had to stop. I'm a little disappointed, but pleased to have done the run dispite missing 4 runs over the last 2 weeks Even better was that my friends commented on how it didn't look like i'd done anything as I looked too fresh Canoeing for me tomorrow, but may try to slip a run in to make up on those I missed!

Miss Wendy - did you get your long run in after your slacker week? And i'll have you know that Horsham where I live is a bustling metropolitan (OK - so it's a quaint English town )

Spicegeek - I'm working a few minutes walk from Victoria train station at the moment if you know where that is. Where in London did you live?

Runjr - I've only heard 2 steve runner podcasts so far so can't really judge them yet. will definitely be loading a few more though - any recommendations? Great run with your DW and DD - good pace too for you all - that'd be fast for me!

Monnik - how's the runs going?

Macd - whenever I read your posts, all I can think off is your baileys cheesecake... yum!

Stan - hope the knee starts to feel better. I had something similar recently where my knee felt fine running after I got going a bit, but hurt after - I took a bit of time off, and have been ok since. Take it easy with the race coming up

Marilyn - Welcome back - hope you feel better soon! Are you doing the same HM as Stan?

Laurel - they're replacing the double decker buses in London with bendy buses now... not as cool! It was definitely a red bus that was coming towards me, but can't remember if it was double decker - was too busy trying to get my wallet back so that I could get home I'm up for a better time awareness resolution if you are! I don't even have the excuse of kids!

Shiela - great run on the DM - Did you switch off the e-mail options against your user ID?

Joe - enjoys your days of rest!

Happy running all

Cara

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Dec 30th

First of all, does everyone else have as much trouble logging in as I do, it seems like its a 10 minute ordeal.

Ran my first race ever today. Snowman Shuffle 5K  at John A. Logan College near Carbondale IL.  I had two goals. I for sure wanted to be under 35 minutes I was pretty sure about that, but being my first race I wasn't sure. So my real goal was to be under 33 minutes. I finished in 32 minutes.  Yes, Glueman is SSSLLLOOOOOWWWW, but I'm working on that. I started out and felt good, saw the first mile marker and checked my watch, "oh my goodness  9:30  1st mile woooohoooI'm gonna come in under 30 min." Then about 1/4 mile later people started passing me then I thought "ughhh I'm gonna be last" anyhow, picked it up a bit and the 3rd mile was better than the second

Glue family cat got run over last night, it was sad, we have 5 cats and that was the one I really liked. He (Zeus) weighed 22 lbs and was as lazy as anything on earth, though  he had a lot of character. The worst part is my mother-in-law ran over him, though she didn't realize it. He was sleeping in her wheel well while she watched the gluettes. When I cam e home, she left and when  she took off and he was sound asleep, found him in my driveway. I convinced mo-in-law that I actually found  Zeusman (that's what I called him) out on the road and that he was hit after she left. Mo-in-law is soft-hearted and would have ben heart-broken if she thought she had killed the cat,

Cara,     I have a similar story involving my passport in the Paris airport, I am the most absent minded person on earth. Left my passport in laying in the gate area. After an hour search and being about as worried about something as I could be, I found it laying right where I left it. It was right after 9/11 and I sure didn't want to explain to the French that I had lost my passport.

Runjr     I hope that my family can have the same experiences that you have with your's while running. My daughters are 4 1/2 and 6.   My wife is the real runner of the family, but we hope to get the girls started this spring if not before.  Any ideas on how young is too young?

Laurel        Hope you get that soreness out, I feel... errr felt your pain after my workout with the She-devil kickboxing MMA trainer the other night.

Can somone explain to me about the poscast on Steverunner? I listened to the beginnigs of some of the podcasts and they didn't have much to do with running.   What am I missing? Are the podcasts good for training?  Help me out here.

Happy running all, hoping to get in 6-7 miles tomorrow if I didn't burn myslef out today in the 5K.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Dec 30th

Hey Laurel - how are you feeling - any soreness ?? the good news is it will be easier and less painful next time !

runjr - you need to turn off email notification in you default preferences and also for each thread you have answered prior to setting your default - you can do that in the action box on the left side of each thread once you open the thread

enjoy the rest Joe !!!!

Cara  - I lived in several places to the west of London mostly around Kingston / Epsom and Hamptom Court - I used to work near Liverpool Street station - I know the area you are in fairly well.

Glueman - mucho congrats on your first race = thats a VERY respectable time - don`t push it - I pushed the speed / distance and ended up laid up for 3 months with a stress fracture -

Sorry to hear about you cat - I get upset when my fish die - let alone a cat !!!

I had a good hour weights workout today - mostly hard strength trainer for my upper body with some light body weight legs - squats , lunges and step up in between. Then did a 30 min walk / run - 2 min walk 8 min run at 5.0 mph - all feels good - finished it all off with a 10 min flirt with my favorite bit of eye candy and treated myself to a long head to toe massage

Life is pretty **** good  ... except trying to login to this site !

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Dec 30th

just checking in.  I took a day off today.  I really needed the rest.  Looks like rain tomorrow but I'm going to try to go for 10 or so but we will see.  I hope everyone is enjoying the warmer temps.  I found the best way to login is to when you get to our thread, use the "login to participate" on the left hand side of the page, for me that works best.

joe - way to get 6 miles in today.  I love the playoffs and the NFL.  This is a great time of year, especially if your team is in the playoffs.  Next week will be interesting.  Enjoy your day off tomorrow.

cara - way to go with the 8.2.   I hope your birthday is special. I like most of the podcasts so far.  I enjoyed the ending of the Philadelphia marathon podcast the best so far, but they are all pretty good.

glueman - way to go with the 5k!!!  You accomplished your goal.  Sorry about your cat.  As for your children I'm not sure when to start them.  I know at most races they have a real short one for children, that may get them interested.  I know they usually earn medals and get cool t-shirts.  They have great role models in your DW and yourself.  You are doing great.  My DD is 18 and finished her team sports and was looking for something to replace them with.

spicegeek - thanks for the tip on the email notifications, hopefully that does the trick.  Great workout for you!

misswendy -  great run, I don't know how I did my running without the garmin, I am so hooked.  I forgot to charge it once and I delayed my run until it was ready.  I am going to try running 6 days a week for a while and see how I hold up.   I gotta try one of your desert recipes soon.

take care all.
