1/2 marathon trainers Jan 13th

Hey everyone, Joe , Peg, Sean should be in their blocks by now. Everyone send a good luck their way. I hope you all have a great run today and this week. The weather here is beautiful. Working on my cup of coffee getting ready for my LSD. I found a local running club to run my tuesday run with, I'll let you know how that goes.

runjr, I hope the hip is better. Good luck to you.

misswendy, I've stoped that running high you mentioned, getting to old for hangovers! Hard to run long runs hungover. I'm real excitting, water and Ice tea is my Friday and Saturday drink of choice now.

Laurel, it's great your family loves to run . my son use to run with me , and was the reason I started back.

Well got to go, sorry to the ones I missed, I know the links are not up but I don't know how. If someone comes on that can please do so. We want Joe to be proud of us for keeping the fort going while the leader is out to battle the roads!

Re: 1/2 marathon trainers Jan 13th

good morning all, took a rest day yesterday to hopefully help my ailing hip.  I may try a short run later today.  Green Bay won big yesterday, yea!!!  I can honestly say I have run in that kind of weather twice this year.  Sometimes the snow makes a fun run.

cara - great run yesterday!  I'd trade getting muddy shoes for the 9 miles.

mara40thon - way to go, congrats, that sounds like a great HM.  It was a great race and you really enjoyed it, what could be better.  You deserve the day off!!!

marilyn - great run!  Take it slow today.

misswendy - your gray haired quarterback played great yesterday!  How far away is Favre's hometown to yours?  Great run yesterday.

chuck - good luck on the long run today.  The running club sounds like fun.  Way to get the thread going, Joe would be proud.

stan - how are you doing with the knee?

take care all, GO PEG, JOE and SEAN!!!

Thanks for starting the thread, Chuck! Have a great run!

I saw the start of the Disney M on the weather channel while I was riding the stationary bike this morning. I read your account of the half  on the old thread, mara40thon--sounds awesome! I hope all of today's HMers are having a great time!

Great 12-miler getting ready for your half, Marilyn, and good for you getting 9 miles in between your parties, Cara! Sounds very scenic. Your 9 too, misswendy--working off those yummy treats... Yes, I've been good about the sweets for 6.3 days now LOL. runjr, take care of the hip!

Well, no surprises with the Pack and Pats--though the snowfall may have been somewhat of a surprise. Now, if the Manning brothers can get it done today...

Re: 1/2 marathon trainers Jan 13th

What a blast!  It was great fun cheering for the runners this morning.  The elite athletes were so fast and not an ounce of fat on their bodies.  They are impressive to watch in person.  After the elites went past, the runners kept coming in waves.  It was hard to pick people out of the crowd, but I saw Joe and I think I saw Peg.  I meant to try to catch them both again went they went past on the other side, but I waited too long to turn around.  We were standing in the median so we could easily cheer for the HM runners when they ran past at mile 7 and then back again at mile 10.  I was really surprised by the number of people who were still going past us at mile 7 at 9:30.  The race started at 7, but there were a lot of walkers in the back of the pack.  There were lots of people out cheering.  I'll be the one running in two weeks, and I hope we have as many supporters as were out today.  I also hope the weather is this good.  It was perfect racing weather - cool and low humidity.  I can't wait to read the race reports!

Re: 1/2 marathon trainers Jan 13th

One word, disappointing! Disappointed in my performance, disappointed I wasn't able to find Peg before the start, disapointed I wasn't able to find Marilyn (twice)!

I could list some reasons why I think I did so bad, but don't want to sound like I'm making excuses.  I just had a very bad race.

When DW and I arrived at the hotel, there was a very long line to get checked in, but it was cool seeing all the runners!  After checking in and getting our stuff in the room we went back down to the lobby to watch the 1st half of the Green Bay game!   We then went to a small Italian restuarant we spotted as we approached the hotel.   As we left the restuarant, it started to rain a bit.  A bit later we watched the NE game.  Think it was in the 4th QTR when I dozed off knowing I had the race in the morning.

At the start of the race the weather was cool and breezy.  Felt a bit cold but that that bad.  I think the temp was 45F but with the windchill factor it was 40F (that was the temp stats as I left the hotel room).  I saw a few runners I had trained with before.  For the first couple of miles it was really crowded and had to do a lot of zigzag running to keep from slowing to a crawl.  Around mile 7 I got a side stich!  Ouch!   After missing Marilyn the first time and checking my pace, I knew I wasn't going to be setting any records so I decided to make my mission to find Marilyn on the way back.  Well that didn't happen either!  Near the end I could tell this HM was going to be my worst one including the first one I ever ran.   I'll admit I struggled to finish.   After the finish I went inside the finisher's area where they gave me my Finisher's Medal.   I found a spot where I sat down and stretched a bit.  After picking up my Finisher's Shirt and meal, I didn't see any familiar faces so I went back to the hotel.   We watched the beginning of the Colts game before leaving.  I think my finish time was around 3 hours.  The official clock read 3:03:xx as I approached the finish.  Don't know yet what my chip time was.  Okay, looking now, the result has my chip time at 2:47 or a 12:44 pace!

Peg - I looked for you around the baggage area but couldn't spot you!  However I'm pretty sure I did see you when you were around mile 8, I had already made the turn-around.  I yelled out at you but guess not loudly enough....  I see though that you did finish!  Congrats!!!!

Marilyn - I looked for you after crossing W Gray, I think I may have been looking at the wrong side!  I think I noticed too late the Beach Scene was in the median of the road.  So I thought I would catch you on the way back....  As I approached the Beach Scene this time I slowed way down (by this time I knew I wasn't going for any records), I yelled out your name but nobody replied.  One woman did notice and I asked if the was a Marilyn there, she also called your name but I didn't notice anyone replying...  I waddled along....

Well back home watching the end of the Colts game!!    The Cowboy game starts at 3:30.  Oh speaking of the Cowboys, during the race, I don't remember at what mile, but as we ran through a neighborhood there was this man sitting on his porch, had a Cowboy's hat but was also flying a Cowboy's flag!!!  LOL

BTW, I'll see about pics later.  The race photography pics won't be up for a few days...

Re: 1/2 marathon trainers Jan 13th

Joe - I'm sorry it was such a disappointing day for you.  There were so many people, I'm not sure how you could move around them.  But your pace will still be better than mine.  I did pick you out of the crowd going down and I yelled out your name, but I think you were past me by the time it registered in my brain that it was you.  My daughters told me you yelled at me on the way back, but by the time they got my attention, you were already gone.  Wah!

Hopefully the day won't be a total wash for you and the Cowboys will find a way to beat the Giants.  I was personally very disappointed that the Colts tanked.

Re: 1/2 marathon trainers Jan 13th

Well, I did my first half.  I had an absolute blast.  It was one big party.  I finished in 3:06 but that's okay.  It was so much fun.  I am in a whole lot of pain and walking really slow but it was worth it.  Next time, I hope that I do not have any injury that sets me back and do better.  But now I know what to expect.  The best part of it all was when I saw my husband and daughter cheering me on.  I got emotional.  Picked her up and ran with her a minute.  Kissed them both and was on top of the world.

Joe - I am so sorry you didn't have a good race.  I watched for you and Marilyn the whole way but couldn't see you guys.  I did see some people with Hawiian beach stuff and asked them if Marilyn was in their group but I don't think they understood me.

Well, my Colts lost.  :_|

Well, going to wobble for a steak dinner tonight.  Yummmmmy

Re: 1/2 marathon trainers Jan 13th

hi all decided to try a run and it was tough at first but the hip was sort of okay.  I might have found some of the problem with my running stride.  Last week was too many miles as I hit 50 for the week which probably contributed to the problem.  Oh well, 8.2 miles with 9:09 pace today.

macd - tough to run today but my football team is done for the week.  I should ride the stationary bike more often I think it may help.

chuck - great run!!! Do you carry a hydration belt to carry water?

marilyn - thanks for supporting the team today.

sheila - that is a long workout.  I am going to start at least one day a week with weights, bike, stair stepper or something.  I think it will help.

joe -  you did it!  That is a pretty cold temp start for a HM.  You did well because you finished.  Some days are always tougher that others and the side stitches hurt.  Take care and get your rest.  You will race again!!

peg - way to go, I'm glad you decided to do it.  You should be proud.  Take care and enjoy your steak.

take care all.  To the racers you have made us all proud.
