Re: Hal Higdon's Spring Training - All In
Hi all, Since I didn't get on the computer yesterday after I ran, I will post this morning. I ran my 3.5 yesterday to finish up W2D4 and because of my beginning sinus cold, I was having trouble breathing. It wa stil pretty good time for me. it was 41:38. I pretty much struggled the whole way, but I made it!!! I have asthma and when I get the sinus thing, it goes right to my chest. I was panting most of the way. The weather was liveable. It was 36 degrees and cloudy but no wind, so I went outside and then I have hills. It is much harder to breathe when you go uphill. I am looking forward to the short run tomorrow. The last time I did this, I found that I was able to start pushing my speed a little and I think it got me faster overall.

It's cold and snowy today, so I'm glad that it's a rest day. My pairs partner is able to be at the rink today, so I will concentrate on skating.

Have a good day everyone.

Rae

I was surprised myself. My 3.5 miles went was about 46 minutes. I thought it would be a little faster then that. Maybe it was just one of them days :)

Hi Greg, I am sending you a welcome too. Well gang, I am up but not moving much yet. I need to go to the track to get in my run today. It's cold, windy and snowy. My body is so sore from my gym workout on Sunday and lots of pairs lifts yesterday (my triceps hurt from that). Ok, off to the shower. Have a great day.

I realize now that living in Florida and running in 45 degree weather just does not agree with me its just too cold. One day down 3 left ion the week though.

Re: Hal Higdon's Spring Training - All In

Hello all,

Greg welcome. Rae do you shower before your run?:0

Last night I ran my catchup run of 5 miles in order to get in the total mileage from last week. This week I will be good and run just what I'm supposed to and not do any catchup runs. Today I may go to the gym and do purely aerobic activity, bike and/or the elliptical. Tomorrow I will start the third week. Guys I am probably the slowest runner among you. I have asthma and until I get back to speed workouts I'm at 13 or 14 minutes a mile. I can go faster for shorter distances, but longer runs I must slow way down.

Re: Hal Higdon's Spring Training - All In
Greg,

Welcome, it is good running with you. Like you I live in a warmer climate but I have found hearing about my peers here on HHST running in snow and ice conditions ends up giving me motivation to get out in 40 degree mornings. Let's face it, in 40 degrees you can still wear shorts :)

Today was my W3D1 and it was another 1.5 mile run. I find on these shorter runs I tend to go out for speed now. I am not saying I am fast, in fact I am dreadfully slow but if I kick up the pace and end up tired by the end of my run I feel I have worked out more. Does anyone else do this? Should I be doing this with only 3 months of running under my belt?

Re: Hal Higdon's Spring Training - All In

Hi Patty, Well, I had other things to do and I was stiff and sore so the shower helps get me moving. Unfortunately the other thing I had to do, took longer than I expected and it's now 2:30 and i still haven't run. I might end up going after dinner.

Greg, 45 degrees is balmy!!! When you run your body goes up 20 - 30 degrees, so just get out there and get moving. B-)

Re: Hal Higdon's Spring Training - All In

Hi Mike, Yes on the shorter days I also try to pick up the pace. I did have about 5 months running before I started that but maybe I'm older than you are so it wouldn't bother you either.

So far I have had no problems with it and no additional aches and pains so I guess it is okay.

Re: Hal Higdon's Spring Training - All In

Hey all!

Appologies for practically vanishing for a over a week. I've moved back to work and just been busy, but still running.

I've completed week 2 with little problems, really enjoyed the last 3.5miler on Sunday and sprinted the end to a time of 34,56 - which I was happy with, under 10 minute mile consistantly.

I did week 3 tuesday today and it was actually quite tough, there was a lot of people around when i started so I ended up running pretty quickly for the first two minutes and tired myself out - unfortunate but I must remember not to do it! Especially tomorrow!

Hope everyone else is still going.

Iain

Iainr,

Nice to hear from you again. I was wondering what happened. Glad to see you are still on the road and with us. I am with you ad just did W3D1. You run a very fast mile I run somewhere between a 11 - 12 minutes mile. It must be a growing old thing.
