Joe - thanks for posting that for me. What do you mean, "no where near 100%".

And by the way, I was in pain, just so happy that I was doing it, my face isn't showing the pain. :)

Re: 1/2 marathon trainers Jan 13th

Hello everyone! I took DD#3 out for W4D1 tonight at the gym. She did really well. I'm going to show her how to create an account (actually she knows how to do that!) and get to the ‘running teens' group. I also am going to sign up for a Valentines 5K (Feb. 9^th^) and a 10K (Mar 13^th^) both in Madison. I will also sign up for either a 10K or 10mi. in April. Coach wants me to wait on that one ‘til we get closer. Joe, is there way to get the calendar link up again?

Misswendy, great job on the 4.45 miles in the rain. Good for you! You're right, YOU got your run in. They (whomever thought you looked stupid) didn't. Their loss.

Joe, zig-zagging makes a lot of sense. Just running on the track and having to move laterally a lane, if I make it too quick of a lateral movement, is really noticeable, almost uncomfortable, so I can imagine after a number of repeats of that you'd be more tired. Speaking of Packer tix. I was at my insurance agents office on Monday and he got a call from someone wanting to know if he could sell 2 tix. $800 each. 35 yard line, 9 rows up. I told him, considering kickoff temp is supposed to be around 5 degrees, I'll take my ‘big-screen' TV, recliner, no-lines, no-waiting bathroom, ‘free' concessions and kickoff temp of 68 degrees over that. Not to mention not having to drive 1-1/2 hours each way... Nice pix! They have the same thing after the GB half. I'll have to think about buying some.

Cara, well good luck on the 4/5 anyway. Wow that story is something. I just saw your updated post... Great run!

Peg, Great pix! I can't wait ‘til May. That looks like so much fun!

Gotta go take my DD#3 to church. ‘See' everyone tomorrow.

Kevin

Re: 1/2 marathon trainers Jan 13th

Just popping in.... Back from gym 20 min on eliptical, 20 on treadmill, 10 on stairclimber....

Peg - Sorry, what I meant to say was you weren't in peak form and you did so well anyhow! Didn't you say your longest run was like only 8 miles up until then? And you had also been battling those shin splints? And still you look so fresh in those pics! Dancing across the finish line like that too! I look dead in mine! lol

Re: 1/2 marathon trainers Jan 13th

The most I ran prior to the half was 7 miles. It was funny when we got to 10 miles I looked over at Sharon and said, "You know, I have never ran double digits before." She said, "WHAT???" We laughed. I said, "Not only am I going to run double digits, I am going to complete this half marathon." WOOHOO.

I am trying to talk my DH and DD into doing the Rodeo Run. Sharon is doing it. I am trying to tell them to do the 5K and then I will do the 10K. I will let you know how it goes.

Peg - you looked awesome and did a great job especially as you only had run 7 miles before the race ! Did you get a nice medal ?? medals are always good ( anyone else remember Mutley from the Catch the Pigeon and Whacky Races cartoons ? )

Kev - kudos to your DD on her running - tell her to join us - she`ll be training for a half in no time !!

Nice job on the run Cara - are you in London on a temporary basis ?? I plan to be back later in the year to visit some friends and maybe run a 10K

Sean .. love he hair dude ! stick around

misswendy - i love running in the rain ! - keeps the sweat under control !

Oh Joe ... yeah you do look a little miserable in that second photo ! .. the rest look pretty good tho

Stan - sorry to hear about you stress fracture - be very careful - if you get any pain doing cardio stop - I know how you feel ...but better a few light weeks now that 3 months off - Are you getting an MRI to confirm the fracture ?

Re: 1/2 marathon trainers Jan 13th
Did a 3 mile hills program on the treadmill tonight as I watched my Fighting Illini finally win a Big Ten game. Some friends came over after church, girls were sick so we didn't go, well we all ended up outside in a snowball fight, I was in shorts, T-shirt, and slippers. Somehow my girls suddenly started feeling better when it started snowing and the snowballs started flying - Good Times

Joe, Peg, Sean great pictures!!!

Sean, loved the do!! If I did my hair like that it wouid start at the back of my head, I have a reverse mohawk working

Peg -You've inspired me, I may try to run a HM with Mrs. Glue Feb 9th. I'm pretty certain I can run 10 miles @ 12 min / mile even though I've only run a long run of 5.5. Going for 7 miles this weekend. I figure, what the heck I can walk the last 3 miles if I have to.

Joe - you looked alot better in pic #2 than I will. Keep it up.

MissWendy - Running in the rain? You're a lot tougher than I am! Great Work

Kevin - Congrats on DD running I look forward to running some long runs down the road with my girls

MacD - I don't really hate the hoosiers, I like them for the most part, except for mens BBall. It's the IU coach and his ethics, or lack thereof, that has fostered my loathing for IU mens BBall. When I was at Illinois we used to go over to IU quite a bit, always enjoyed it, especially the little 500.

Happy running all - kickboxing tomorrow night.

Re: 1/2 marathon trainers Jan 13th

Morning All... for when you wake!

Peg - great pictures! You really looked like you had fun out there! and especially amazing seeing as you'd only done 7 before. I sometimes wonder if I will be able to do 13.1, but now I know i'm going to go for it and finish no matter what!

MissWendy - That's one BIG pond to cross at the moment! Not sure what's going on with the weather, but it does seem to have dried out here a little bit... more rain forecast though

Kevin - Glad DD3 is enjoying the running. She'll be pushing you soon you know ;)

Joe - great gym session... And I really did like that photo - it told a story ;) You looked pretty strong at the end though?

Spicegeek - I live about 40 miles south of London so can always get there easily. Am working in London until about July time at the moment. Let me know when you are going to be here, and what race you're doing, and I may even join you for a 10k! Hey - I may yet meet that goal of running with someone else from our group!

Glue - I wish I had your confidence. I ran 9 miles at 11mm last weekend and still am not confident on breaking 10 let alone the full HM. Great hill run on the TM! I'd love to have a snowball fight too, but we don't get too much of that here :(

Going for another 4 / 5 tonight so report back later

Re: 1/2 marathon trainers Jan 13th

Morning! I may finally try that spin class this evening, however it depends on work/dinner...

Peg - I thought about doing the 5K at the Rodeo Run too. DW was thinking of maybe walking it. Just not sure yet. However I am going to register for the BCC 10K. Oh and your longest run before the Half was only 7 miles? And you had been having shin splints too? Wow!!

Spicegeek - Yep, I'm not sure what mile that was at! LOL Build up them eye candy legs!

Glueman - Good TM run and good for your Illini team!! Sounds like a fun snow ball fight too! Thanks for lumping me in with Peg and Sean's great photos! My infamous pic #2 Hmm... maybe now I know how those celebs feel when they get their not so great pics in those tabloids! LOL

Cara - Thanks... yep it was all camera tricks! LOL Have a good run!

Re: 1/2 marathon trainers Jan 13th

Almost forgot, I received the following from Denise (actually she pointed me to it).

:D +this was soooooo much fun!! i planned this trip with 2 of my fellow
nurse friends and one doc who was doing the full marathon - i took my
mother and younger 2 sons (17 and 13) with me and we all stayed at the
Dolphin+

+thursday - we arrived in Orlando around noonish, had
something to eat and waited for the other girls to get back from MK
before heading over to the Expo ...... i found the expo quite
congested, but the volunteers were great and moved us thru the lines
quickly and the boys loved the area..........we walked around the
boardwalk later that evening and just enjoyed the sights and nice
weather+

+friday - must have been on a similar route as Pfriese
cuz we started the day off at Animal Kingdom as well - thought
Expedition Everest was going to do me in but was tons of fun!! then
over to MGM for the afternoon, and back to the Dolphin for a pasta
dinner at their Italian Rest..............was also planning to get to
sleep early, but must have been after 10 before i fell into a fitful
sleep - i found it hard sleeping knowing how early my alarm was going
to go off+

+sat - on a race bus by 3:45 and off we
gooooooooooooo!! the one thing i would definitely warn people about the
Dolphin is it is not easy for spectators to get over to the 1/2
marathon route - my mom and one of the girls sister had to be on a bus
around 5 to be sure they would get on the route before the roads closed

  • had we been at a hotel truly "in the park", they could have used the
monorail a little later.......and because they needed to be out so
early, i decided to be a nice mom and not make the boys get up to cheer
me on!!+

+the race was soooooooooooo fun!! i loved the fireworks
at the start - i could see fireworks every nite and never get tired of
them.........one of my friends and i ran the first 2 miles together,
then she caught back up to me around the 10th mile and we ran close to
each other to the end............was so great!! i loved running thru
the parks and especially thru the castle - many of the disney princes
and princesses were at the castle waving us on..............the amount
of volunteers was amazing - they did such a great
job.........spectators along most of the route as well - my mom and my
friend's sister made it to mile 8 to cheer us on then hopped on the
monorail and were at the finish line to see us come in!! can't wait to
see the pics...........oh ya - my time was 2:08:28 - would have loved
to finish under 2 hours but considering this was my first 1/2 since my
leg injuries last year i was very very happy!! i felt great after the
race, showered and went off to Epcot for the day!!+

+so glad i
didn't overdress - wore my MVS (running club) singlet, black under
armour fitted shorts and my white Boston Marathon hat - it was so warm
especially coming from Massachusetts!! can't wait for next year!!+

Re: 1/2 marathon trainers Jan 13th

Cara - You're right! I should have proof read - I was thinking 12 MM I either had some wishful thinking or missed the "2" and hit the "1". Don't know if I could do the HM@ that pace but pretty sure I could make one more of my 5 M loops. We'll find out this weekend, I'm gonna try for 10 and I'll report back, if you don't hear back from me, you'll know that I died trying. J/K I knjow it's not good practice to make such a large leap in long run miles so if I feel like I'm gonna crash, I'll just walk back to the car.

Re: 1/2 marathon trainers Jan 13th

Peg, I got a laugh out of your description of running "double digits." It reminded me of my daughter's first marathon. I think 22 miles had been her longest previous run. There were 2 guys running near her when she got to the 22-mi mark, and one of them started saying, "This is the furthest I've ever run in my life...and this...and this" on every step for a little while. She said she was thinking, "Me too, me too, me too."

glue, I was just joshin'. I used to be a huge IU mens BBall fan, but never cared for Mike Davis, and Sampson, well, I think he should have been fired for the violations that occurred at IU (not that I would have hired him in the first place with the sanctions he already had). That and the defections to the pros after 1 year have pretty much dampened my enthusiasm for college basketball in general. Glad the Illini won! Sounds like a fun snowball fight with the gluettes!

joe, great gym workout! You are too funny--did you really feel as bad as that video? Thanks for sharing Denise's experience--that sounds like an awesome place to race!

40 min. on the TM this a.m. I can't believe how much better my quads are feeling since I started biking every other day. Hope everyone else's injuries resolve as well!
