Re: League of Lizards (week of January 14th)

Week 9 Day 1 complete. It was pretty amazing. Best run so far. What a difference a new pair shoes makes.

nyc & lizard, those look like great plans. I've decided to do the OHR program- the half marathon stuff is way too ambitious for me :0 But I would like to keep our group together also- you guys got me through 9 weeks (in 2 more days) and coming from a gal who didn't think she would get past week 3- it really means alot.

JC, I'll email that stuff to you tomorrow from work.

Have a great night!

Re: League of Lizards (week of January 14th)

WK8D2 in the books! Actually ran 30 minutes today then walked 3 min and ran for 10 minutes then walked 2 min and finished a full 3.1 miles. Took me 49 minutes- boy do I run slow- but my race is less than 2 weeks away so I am stepping up the normal wk 8 (at least for today). D3 I will do the 28 minutes only.

It was challenging- I needed the walk when I did them, but also I am finding this is just a long time to be continuously running! I dont know if I am as much tired as I am just thinking it takes me forever to cover any distance!! :) My husband runs the 3.1 miles in 28 minutes so he will have time to go back to our room, shower, shave and catch a movie before I finish the race!! LOL- just kidding, but it is a long time to run- or is it?? Is that just the old couch potato in me talking???

Anyways, I second the notion of keeping the group together regardless of what everyone decides to do next. I know I joined kinda late, but I really rely on each of you for support and think of you when I want to give up on a run. Just so you will know me- my name is Cindy and I live in GA. I am married with 2 children and I am 39 yrs old. The Alissandrya thing is a long boring story......

Re: League of Lizards (week of January 14th)

I'm glad others agree we should stay together :)

After some more consideration (translation: I spent the entire evening doing research!), I've decided I actually am going to do HHST. I think it is more realistic than my initial plan was, although it's going to leave me a few weeks behind where my plan would have put me. I think I will shoot for running the Grete's Great Gallop HM in NYC in October, instead of the HM we have here in August. That will give me a little more time to train. I don't want to be rushing to be ready for a race -- I want to run a race when I am ready.

Re: League of Lizards (week of January 14th)

I'd love to stay together as a group.

I'm still not sure what I'll do next though. At this point I think the time based program might work best for me. Finished Wk 8 day 2 last night! Can't believe it's almost over!:D Wasn't always sure I'd make it - your support has been wonderful!

Ali- You're not alone I'm going at about the same pace you are. I haven't gone 3 miles yet though maybe after week 9.

Thanks lizard for listing the programs and everyone for doing the research for me!

Re: League of Lizards (week of January 14th)

Turtle: Thank you for your help emailing me the plans.

Today, I finished W9D2. Really nice run. Very smooth, in a park two blocks away from my house. My wife walked while I was running.

I realize that next run is the last in our program. Looking at the programs, I think OHR is the most suitable for me, mainly because you need only three days in a week which is the time that I have. I would probably combine this plan with Parker's heart rate plan, just to work in the appropiate range.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I'll try to run the last day really fast, just to complete 5K in 30 minutes ! It's possible...

Keep running !

Re: League of Lizards (week of January 14th)

Hi everyone! Finished W9D1 today - I am still being kind to my ankle by running on the treadmill, but anxious to get outside again! The nice thing about the treadmill is being able to control your speed. I finished 2.55 miles in 30 minutes. Hoping to improve the speed over the course of the next few weeks.

I will probably start the HHST program. It sure would be great if we could all stick together through the next level as well. It really helps to know you all are out there doing the same thing and "cheering" everyone on.

Keep up the good work everyone and let's keep this going!!!

Re: League of Lizards (week of January 14th)

Hey Homeskillets!

I have pretty muched bagged this program and started following a less aggressive program. I found it at beginnertriathelete, and its kind of the same program, your body has a little more time to get used to adding additional minutes on a weekly basis. I have found since I have gone back to work, I can't really pound the **** out of myself like I could when I was off for 6 weeks. I am on my feet for 6-10 hours a night so trying to make the jump from running 8 minutes to running for 16 or more is just not gonna work. I can run about 15 minutes at a time and I am still working out every day but Saturday and Monday, so things will still progress. Interestingly, this is a 4 month program, and even though I am off in this program, 15 minutes is right at week 7-8. However, I still plan to keep up with all you Lizards....

But for now, I gotta go to work!

Re: League of Lizards (week of January 14th)

W9D1 COMPLETED after work tonight, in some very wintry precipitation. It was more like rain at the beginning of my run but more like wet, heavy snow by the time I finished. But I was NOT going to let that stop me. I knew I was really going to have a good run from the start today, and I did. I made it 2.4 miles in 30 minutes at what felt like a very brisk, steady pace. At a 12:30 pace, it wasn't my fastest run, but it was a lot better than I usually do at the start of a new week.

I can't believe I ran 30 minutes, and actually found it EASY. Can you guys believe how much fitter we are than we were 9 weeks ago? WOO HOO!

I'm considering ditching my iPod entirely on these runs. I really feel like I pace myself better without it, because I am concentrating more on my pace and how I'm feeling. Somehow, it's also easier for me to mentally zone out when I'm NOT listening to music, and the minutes fly by. I think it's because I'm not constantly thinking "OK... I'm on the third song of my playlist, so I must have about 25 minutes left!" and that sort of thing.

Re: League of Lizards (week of January 14th)

NYC, I agree. I prefer running without music and concentrate in my running. The only stuff I use is my Garmin Forerunner 305, where I check my heart rate, pace, distance, etc... It's also interesting to run without music because you can also think more deeply about affairs you have in your head...

Tomorrow I'll go for W9D3 !!

Keep running ,

I added a column for our new plans. Anyone else decided? TTina? myturn? Ali, york: next week? What are you all thinking about?

Got new shoes last night at a RUNNING STORE. Guy didn't even crack a smile when I said I needed to fitted for running shoes. Just asked me if I had any race plans, how many miles per week I was running...Great experience. Shoes are 2 sizes larger than my old ones. Granted I had already decided on thick cushy Thorlos socks but I guess I was running in shoes a size too small.... So I ran 33 minutes to celebrate!

What is Parker's? Do I need a HR monitor to do it? Ali/Cindy & slow, I also run slowly but I still run. I believe that my first race also has walkers in it so I won't be the DFL one. I am at about 13 MM right now. I whiz past all the couches in the neighbourhood! For me, 3 miles is way diff than 30 min (at least right now)!

n.y.c., cannot imagine racing in August unless it is at midnight. Too darn hot for me! When is Grete's? My HM is in Nov. Not sure if the ipod is helping or hurting me. I used to train without music but got kind of hooked when I started with Ullrey and the timed intervals. Think I'll map out my course, run alternately with and without music, see how it goes.

York, I also registered for my races. YAY!!!! JC, you go!!!! Can't wait to read about your really fast Peruvian run! Ohio, you are running under 12 mm. Rock on! And Sarah, does this mean you run, bike and swim?!?!?! WOW! Tell us more.

I think the league will persist!

Re: League of Lizards (week of January 14th)

Week 9 Day 2 Complete!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey lizard, I'm going to do the One Hour Runner program after this. Good for you on getting those new shoes! Which ones did you get (can't remember if you said or not). Yes, Parker is heart monitor training so you would need a heart monitor to effectively do his program. His program is too ambitious for me anyway because he calls for running 4 and 5 days a week and I only want to run 3 so I'm just going to apply his heart rate training principles to the OHR program for now.

nyc- yahoo! Yes, can you believe it! Remember when the 90 second increments were hard?

Sarah, you make my day every time you call us your Homeskillets! I don't know why but I love it.

Hi everyone else- hope your runs are fabulous.

Peace out. Turtle B-)
