I am on the Jersey Shore. I don't run outside but i think in the weeks/days to come i am going to try it and see how it goes. I might even go and run on the Boardwalk if i can figure out the distance/time ratios so I don't end up 1/2 mile away when i finish :) I was NEVER a runner, i loathed the thought of it, but for some reason I have alot of faith in this program and i am excited about the thought of joing the tons of people who enjoy running on a regualar basis.

I'm from Illinois so I know how cold it is. I can suggest a couple of things. First, figure out wh/ way the wind is blowing tomorrow and start of running into it. Second, find a way to run on a treadmill. Find a used one on ebay, find someone in your town that has one and become friends w/ them. See if there is a gym in the next town. What about the local high school (maybe even contact their track coach and see if he has any suggestions).

Spin class, as for any workout, you get out what you put into it. It can be a great workout. I don't really like them, but thats me.

Also, a jump rope is a great way to work out in your garage and I'm beat after about 2 minutes.

Pushups, situps and squat luges (inside).

Keep up the good work. Remember, nutrition is more than half the battle (the half I suck at).

I've been running on and of for about twenty years. I'm running the best I ever have in my life now. Who would have thought form was so important. Also, sprinting parts of my run (say do a 100 yd dash every mile). One of my favorite things is passing a slower runner (is that sad????).

I got another idea. The eliptical machine. A lot of people that have bad knees use them and it's a lot like running. Pretty good workout too.

Maybe you should look into that shin thing. I'm personally scared to death about shin splints.

Not sure on the cost (my gym has them....they cost me about $80 A month). I assume they're about the same as a treadmill.

How's the training going????

ROCK ON with your 7 LBS! I am taking baby steps, making little adjustments in my eating habits and running, we'll see how this goes. Yesterday i realized that I was DRINKING about 1200 calories a day!, so I made the switch to diet iced tea. ( i have hated the taste but after a day or so it's starting to grow on me.) Other little changes are weight watchers meals at lunch time and 100 calorie packs for snacks.
