Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Jan 21-27
morning all... fyi: I posted on last week's thread with some personals

I also posted this regarding the login problems: lately when I've been clicking on "login to reply" it takes me to the main active homepage & then I have to try to login again. today I found that if I hit the back arrow at the top of the page when it takes me to the home page, I then get to the right logon page. So, if this happens to you, just hit the back arrow to go back a page & you'll get to the login.

Yesterday I did great on my points and at the party I did not eat anything - no cake, no ice cream, no finger foods... although I did eat one fingertip taste of frosting from the cake ;p I didn't even feel deprived, of course it helped that I wasn't feeling very good too. The hardest part for me when I am with my husband's family is that they all think that I don't need to lose any weight & they comment on how thin I look. This is great for my self-esteem but I fall into that trap that I don't need to watch what I eat. DH's younger sister & grandma are on WW and my BIL has cut out sugar/processed foods and started exercising and it is so great to see how eating & exercise has helped all of them, but there are still other family members that really need to lose weight and its tough to see them eating so much and not seeing that they could lose weight like the rest of us have. ok, enough about all that.

I got up early today after a wonderful 8 hours of sleep last night & I ran 3.3 miles in the freezing temps - a frigid 43 this morning. quit rolling your eyes all you cold-weather people :) the run felt pretty good, not sure if it was good for this chest cold or not, it definitely made me cough a lot & loosen things up. I feel better now than I did yesterday. I know one thing is for sure - I feel better all around when I stick to my WW diet & get exercise :)

meal plan for today:
cereal & milk (4)
strawberries (1)
leftover chicken (3) rice (3) broccoli (0)
apple (2) carrots (0)
taco soup (4)
skinny cow ice cream sandwich (3)
strawberries (1)

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Jan 21-27

Well, the group run was cancelled because of the snow on Saturday so I ran on my own yesterday. I was supposed to do 12, but only did 10. Pretty good for going on my own. I definitely need the support of the group on those longer runs! It was even colder yesterday than on the day that it snowed. I think it was 19 with a wind chill of 10. The wind was blowing really bad right at the beginning and I thought I was going to die. I kept repeating to myself, "It is &$%#ing freezing out here, you are an idiot, but you can do it!!"

I'm at home today off work, but my husband had to go in. I've got big plans to do a lot of cleaning and organizing around the house, but we'll see if it actually gets done. Here are a couple of pictures of what little snow we got! :)

Karen - I'm in Birmingham. It rarely snows here, the last time it snowed I think was in 2001.

Bodacious - I have to get up super early to run in the summertime since it gets so freaking hot!

Thisyear - Wecome! I've always been wary of those low-carb diets. How can a diet where you can't eat some fruits be good? It just doesn't seem healthy in the long-term!

Gator - I know what you mean. Chips are my downfall. If I have a bag in he house I will eat the whole bag in one sitting. I've tried ice and heat on my calf, and over a week later it's finally better. And I'm in Birminhgam, like I said earlier to Karen. What part of Birmingham does your sister live? And I love the hungry girl website. I've found so many good foods from there!

Maxie - your daughter is so cute! And brave! I didn't get up the courage to get my ears pierced until I was about 7 or 8. And I think I'm always going to be an Athena. I'm 5'8 and right now I'm in the 170s. Most people think I weight about 20 pounds less than I do. I guess I carry my weight well. I don't know what I weighed when I was at my smalled because we never had a scale that worked at home! I think I might be able to get into the 140s, but less than that would be too much for me I think. I've always been pretty muscular too, since I used to dance a lot, and that added to the weight.

nosirrahm - Welcome! The c25k is a great program to start running!

Lilymama - We don't have kids yet, but the thought of all that really stresses me out when I think of having kids. I look up to all you parents that still manage to exercise! And I'm so sorry about your loss, I can't imagine how that feels!

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Jan 21-27

Hi everyone. First, Happy - that recipe that you posted how much does it make and do you happen to know the point content? I could probably figure it out, but it looks REALLY good. I may try it tomorrow night for dinner.

So, here goes. I am way off track with the running. I am having to back WAY off, of course I over trained and now the doctor is concerned about a few medical complications that I seem to be having. So, I am being forced to cut back to 12 miles a week. I am whining and really stuggling with feelings of failing. I was planning to do the 1/2 on Feb 10th (and I paid, WTH???) and now that won't be a possibility. I have gotten to goal and lifetime, and now who knows what will happen with my weight. I know I am such a downer, sorry..... I will sit here and live vicariously through all of you training and running races. I am planning to keep doing the 5Ks because they are so much fun. I will have to look for one to do on Feb 10th to keep my mind off what I SHOULD have been doing! :(

Again, sorry about the depressing tone of this post. I am just really disappointed. I will be happier next time! Happy running to all, and have a nice POP week!

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Jan 21-27

Hi Everyone,

I have been reading the posts everyday and everyone seems to be doing amazing!!

NHmommy-Sorry you are unable to run the 1/2 but maybe you could still walk it? Or walk the first 10 miles and run the last 3. You may even be able to find a friend who would like to do it with you. The race says that it will have walkers! And if you are supposed to stay away from that distance no matter if it walking or running don't let it get you down, just remember how far you have come and that over time of taking it slow you can back to it.

I have been eating right, not POP, but I'm getting better and I have actually ran for the past two weeks 5 days a week. This week I am planning to run 5,3,6,3,7. And on Saturday I will be go skiing for the first time. Besides just running I have started rotating between the other cardio machines, so i do one of them after running 3 days a week. I finally weighed myself again and was only 3 pounds down from when i started WW 1 year ago....but I am determined to keep that downward slope going, instead of letting it get me down.

Hope everyone with the flu starts feeling better soon!

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Jan 21-27

Hi all :)

I have the day off, I have slept most of the morning away tho! Soon I will get motivated to begin the transformation of this house and make my dishes of the week, I am also going to hit the gym and get some serious weights in along with some kind of cardio, there are no classes today because of the Hol which is a shame I would have been cool with some spinning.

Nhmommy you be as sad or mad as you want to be, injuries suck big time and that is a huge dropback in mileage for you. I know how I felt having to take the time off for my IT and then by toe, I have been playing with the idea of taking a week or two off to try to finally fix this IT band, I don't know if I can tho, running does so much for me so I will probably just plod thru. I send you healing vibes and hugs.

Happy thanks for that recipe, problem is I want to make it now but I can't as I got all the fixings for the receipted in the WW mag so I need to make that first, the one you posted is the very next one on my to do list :)

Brandy I love your cute little snowman! WTG on doing the run on your own, that is huge if you are used to running with a group!

Thisyear, both of the WW plans work great if you stick with them, I lost 40 on flex and the other 40 + on core, you have to choose what you can stick to, core does take extra planning and prep. I just like the natural type foods better, I read labels sometimes when I am shopping and get very scared! I don't want to put anything in my body anymore that I can't pronounce :)

Kristine it sounds like you are doing awesome! Have you settled into the new city okay? I have never been to the Boston area I guess I need to find a race to take me there!

Mel I know where you are coming from when people say you do not need to lose more weight, listening to that last year got me in trouble! I had one friend ask another if I was anorexic and I was 157 at the time, the heaviest anorexic in town I guess! It is tough to watch family members destroy their bodies, I have been doing it with my son, since he left school and quit football etc he crept up on the scale, ended up at about 285 and was eating horrible junk food for about every meal. Well he has started going to the gym with me and has lost 12lbs, I am starting him on C25K so he can rub the heart run with me. We went food shopping on Saturday and finally he is making some better choices! I actually saw veggie burgers, whole grain bread and apples go in his cart! Baby steps!

K all I will be back later, got's to make a start on the days chores!

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Jan 21-27

NH- What a bummer about the injury. I will live through you at goal though! :)

My left knee is bothering me this morning. Odd I ran 10 last Sunday was fine and only 5 this week and now my knee hurts. I think it knows I have to l fly to Denver Weds for work and was taking two days off soI was trying to get my mileage in earlier....so i ended up walking 5 miles at a 15;00 pace. At least I wasnt on the couch right! ;)

I think for now I am doing to steal the term "flore" I am counting my points but moving towards less processed foods. I dont feel like I know enough about Core and dont think I can gage an accurate serving size on my own right now. I am so glad Bodacious you lost on both plans. I made a corn chowder today and I think it might have been core ..but maybe not it had low fat milk in it..but it was fantastic. But still I kept thinking OMG corn so high in sugar. But it has red peppers and zucchini in it and felt so good to eat all those fresh veggies. So filling too...I need a smidge of deprogramming I think.

So one of my closest friends is getting married this year. And she is my best diet buddy. She had a sister and a mother and grandmother all who got to goal on WW. Her best friend from college lost 60 pounds and kept it off on WW. So she had been doing WW on her own. Today she called and said the fiance talked her to into ATkins. I was like NOOOOOOO dont do it. She will end up like me terrified of an apple. Have nightmares about oranges.. She will drop the weight in a week, and gain it all back on her honeymoon and the cycle will start. She is so much more displined than I she did the Hollywood 24 hour diet a few years ago and almost fainted. Why do we as women torture ourselves? Funny how after you have been there and struggled your afraid for your friends. I said well I am not getting married this year and I dont care if takes me the rest of my life to lose those 25 pounds I have got to learn how to eat. Just the mere thought of all that chicken I ate and bacon...I ate so much of it its a wonder I didnt personally drive the stock price up!

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Jan 21-27

Hi y'all- Maybe I will hang out here with y'all some too, I sure do need to take off 45 pounds. I've done WW before and lost all 3 times. I don't want to go to meetings but thought I might try the online version. Goodness knows it would be easier to run 3 miles with the 45 pounds gone! Where do I start? I'm on W3D2 of the C2K5 and enjoying it.

Gatorgirl- we want to relocate to Florida. Have been as far as Clearwater but no further south. Looking forward to seeing all of it!

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Jan 21-27

Evening,

This Year - LOL - so funny how you mention feeling slow with the running club, that's exactly how I feel. It is good though to surround yourself with people that you can draw knowledge and inspiration from. I'm not sure if it was you who mentioned a 57 y.o. kicking your butt but we have an 81 y.o. that can do a 10 min mile. Absolutely amazing, inspirational if you will. It took me all season to beat a 69 y.o. who runs a 9 min mile in an 8K - LOL. Just be careful to not push yourself past your abilities. It is easy to go to a group run or track workout and be pushed more than your body is ready to be pushed. I learned that the hard way so just listen to your body.

Nosirrahm - You don't have to be a lurker - feel free to post and tell us how you are doing. C25K is awesome! I started with it last March and have run a half-marathon and am training to run a full in April. Good luck with the Desert classic! That is a great goal for March if you put the time in you can do it. A good rule of thumb when "wogging" walking/jogging is to stay towards the rear in the start so you won't get bowled over by the runners. I always like the mid-rear for this reason - the ones in the front run for time, the ones in the middle should be running the whole race and the rear is usually woggers who are not aiming for a certain time on the clock. Good luck and make sure to give us a full race report when that race passes! How did you do in the Rock N Roll 1/2?

Bo - sorry about the +2 - it happens. Water/repair weight can be a bummer. I was up 3 after my HM and although it made the leader give me comments at least when you know the whys its not so hard. I LOVE when I finally can have that mental "eat my dust" moment! Way cool!! There are a few people in my club that I have a mental checklist - got the first one, then started on the second one - got her. I have to figure out this year who I have to pick off - LOL. If nothing else it helps the miles go by and it helps me to run faster!

Lily - I hope the kids are feeling better and I am so sorry about your loss. That can be so hard and to have it happen on Christmas Day is such a bummer. Hugs out to you - belated but true - so sorry.

Gatorgirl - ahhh how I long for 40 degree runs! The past few days (unfortunately) we are in the single numbers with wind chills below zero. It may be better for the next few days and I am nervously watching Sundays forecast. Fingers crossed for 20's or 30's - LOL. I must say though I am a total WUS for the 75+ and I am with BO I do not get up early. My idea of a morning run is from 9:00 - 11:00 - LOL. I am getting the same - you look great - lets order chinese - from DH. I love that he loves me the way I am but it def. doesn't help to get back to goal!

Brandy - I love the little snowman! How fun for you to get snow like that! It must be such fun when you don't see if for years like that. Even though we get plenty every year I still love the first snowfall - it is just so magical and pretty. Sounds like you and I are built very similar. I too am 5'8" and right now 170. 164 is my goal weight so I can weigh in at 166 and not pay - getting closer. It has been years since I have not had to pay WW and I look forward to that joyous day - LOL. Everyone thinks I way in the 150's because of the height so that is nice.

NHMommy - Congrats on your huge accomplishment!!!! Goal AND lifetime!! WOW - way to go - you rock!!!! I am sorry to hear you have to chill for a bit - what is the injury?? I know your mileage was getting up there 40+ so if you can nurse your injury perhaps 2/10 might be doable, yes? I hope its just a small strain that a week of babying can help out. Don't underestimate the power of rest, ice and antiinflamms! I had issues before my HM in November that I had to take a week off of running and I have been icing and antiinflamming since. Good luck - your body may surprise you at how quickly it heals. Healing vibes heading your way!!

Kristen - 5 days of running a week - that is awesome! My older body bucks 4 days a week so I have to alternate between 4 days and then 3. You are now on a downward slope so just keep rolling with that - congrats - sounds like you are doing great!! Are we running a race together? Is it the HM 2/10?

Tomorrow I will hit the gym in the moring for a 5-7 on the dreadmill and then do core/upper. I have school in the afternoon so I will check back in on Wednesday. Be good people!!

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Jan 21-27

Hi everyone!!! I just discovered this group quite by accident. I'm really excited to find you. I have been a WW member for a year... and a runner for about 9 months. I've lost 85lb & still need to lose 35 - 40. This is has been a great life change for me.

I decided last Spring to find a challenge that would really indicate significant change in my life so I began training with Team in Training for the VA Beach Rock 'N Roll 1/2 last September. I completed the race in 3:47:11 (yeah, slow, but I felt good about it considering I had a humongo blister beginning around mile 5). I am definitely still on the run/walk track for now due to heartrate. The amount of
running has definitely increased, but I can't run consistently yet.

Now I am planning to do Shamrock in March and Rock 'N Roll again at the end of the summer. The long run/walk for this past week was 9 miles. It is really cool to see how much different I feel after 9 miles now vs. how it felt last June. :-)

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Jan 21-27

Hey NHissteps Pluggin and I are doing the VB rock and roll 1/2 this year! We will have to meet up! WOW you lost your weight twicw as fast as me! You must have been very OP! I have lost 86 in two years, I did have 2 extended plateaus tho, one planned and one not! I keep changing my goal I think I am about 10lbs away.

Mel I think you asked about the wolves...They have been very quite, no more incidents to date, fish and game were saying that they were eating dogs as we had very little snow so their normal prey (moose etc) were getting away, Since christmas we have had some good snowfalls so I figure thay are back to their regular cuisine!

Pluggin I will be eating your dirt in VB :) You are faster than me! I seem to be able to do between a 10.10 and 10.30 mile with little problens but once I try to go faster my IT kicks back at me! I may be doomed to always be a 10 min miler but I will take it as long as I am running. Naturally I think my body loves a nice slow slog, I think it would be happy and could probaly chug along forever at a 11.30 min pace :)

We are getting snow nasty weather up here, temps about 32 with either rain or snow and some high winds, it is a mess out there. I am looking forward to my little Panama City break next month it will be good to get some runs in on some snow and iceless pavement!

K I have to go workout catch you later
