Re: The Long Haul - Still Running!!

Kevin, I'm in Stuart. I drive down Indiantown through Jupiter several days a week. I go to church in Tequesta. We're practically neighbours. Have you ever gone to Riverbend Park? It's west of the turnpike on Indiantown Rd., heading out to Jupiter Farms. It's only about 2-3 miles west of the turnpike. It's on the south side of the road. If you haven't been there, it is fantastic! I've spent hours out there running. I think I managed to run 6 miles out there without ever doubling back on the same trail. The trails are well marked and there are occasional port-a-pots and picnic tables. You do have to take your own water. I rarely see anyone out there when I run. That does make me a little nervous but I'm well armed with my pepper spray, lol.

Nico, how soon after you run are you eating? And then after you eat, how soon before you eat again? I have to wait at least 30 minutes before I eat. Otherwise, I get nauseated. If I run during the day, I generally don't eat after I run. But when I run in the morning, I have to eat before I go to work. I eat some oatmeal and drink some milk and then eat again about 2 hours later. What kind of cereal are you eating? I'm wondering if there is sugar in your cereal. You might be getting too much sugar from the cereal and apple and then your blood sugar drops a little while later. You do need some protein along with those carbs. Of course this is all just my opinion, lol. But I do think you might be having a blood sugar spike and then bottom out.

Re: The Long Haul - Still Running!!

Small world!!

When you drive down Indiantown heading east and cross Central Blvd, look left and wave. I am about 1/2 mile up.

Yes, I know where Riverbend Park is. I will definitely cruise over there, check out the layout, and use it as a running spot. Thanks!!

Re: The Long Haul - Still Running!!

I feel so far away, I'm way up in Alachua County - home of the Gators ;)

Anyone watch the Packers/Giants game? What a cliff-hanger that was. I went to grade school in Wisconsin so I was rooting for the Packers, but what a great game!

Re: The Long Haul - Still Running!!

I can't eat for at least an hour after I run, and I usually run in the morning, so I think there's a possibility that my body is so in need of nutrition by the time I eat that it just takes all my energy to digest. I just don't know why it's so dramatic just in the last week or so (hmmmm, since my daughters runny nose!).

The cereal I eat is the Kashi that's like shredded wheat with cinnamon on it. It doesn't have much sugar in it. I do think maybe I have a protein deficit at times... and it does feel a bit like a blood sugar thing... that's a thinking. I think there might be a hormonal component too, ugh.

I'm off to take my daughter to the park. Happy running everyone!!

Re: The Long Haul - Still Running!!

Nico,

I am married into a FREAK 'Noles family.

I know, I know, you sympathize with me. :)

My wife, mother-in-law, father-in-law, both sis-in-laws and their husbands all graduated from FSU. UGH!

I am a Notre Dame fan. Have been my whole life. VERY LONG season this year.

My college experience was a very small school. Sports were NAIA level.

I have been to the 2003-2006 FSU/UF games. It is a great experience.

I have been to World Series games, Stanley Cup Finals games but nothing was as loud as Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville. That place rocks!!

With most of the stadium sitting below street level the noise has nowhere to go. It is unreal.

Re: The Long Haul - Still Running!!

Ran four miles today, the temp was in the low 40's. I'm still running in shorts, but I have a tec shirt on and a long sleeve shirt over it. We had a snow here on Saturday and it's still alot of it around, the kids really enjoyed playing in it this weekend.

I was pulling for Green Bay, Bret played college ball at the University of Southern Mississippi which is in Hattiesburg. Hattiesburg is less than thirty miles south of where I live. Bret and his wife lives in Hattiesburg, she is active in the community. I heard over the weekend that he told a friend of his that this would be his last season, we will have to wait and see.

I hope everyone are enjoying their runs and staying healthy.

Happy Running,

Frank N Mississippi

Re: The Long Haul - Still Running!!

I was cheering for Greenbay too. I have no team to cheer for in the SuperBowl. I don't care for either one. I'm feeling kind of sick today. Called in sick at work. I can't decide whether to bike and run or not. I think I'm trying to come down with the flu. I've been in bed for the last 16 hours. I'm exhausted and achy and have a slight temperature. I should probably skip the workout but I'll feel guilty if I do. Last January I started feeling bad, went to the gym and had to leave because I felt so bad. I ended up being sick for 4 months! I thought if I went to the gym I might sweat it out and get over it but I think I made things worse. So I guess I'd better rest today.:( Who would have thought I'd would ever feel guilty about not working out?

Take care everyone. Stay warm and stay safe.

Re: The Long Haul - Still Running!!

Kimber,

Sorry to hear you are feeling crappy. Bummer. Dive all over the AIRBORNE and drink water until you feel like you will bust.

I ran a 5k in my neighborhood and felt pretty good. A little slower pace but the wind was crazy!

Somehow I felt like I had a head wind the whole way!

I am taking today off. Rest my weary joints.

Talk to you all soon.

Kevin

Re: The Long Haul - Still Running!!
I ran an easy two miles today. Nothing much to mention about it. It is raining a little so I had to time my runs between the rain.

Re: The Long Haul - Still Running!!
I ran a little yesterday. The wind was coming out of the north. I had to tuck my head down to run into it. It was a fight just to go forward. When I was coming back, a gust blew me into the street. I swear I thought I was going to be like the flying nun!

Re: The Long Haul - Still Running!!

Hey all,

Sorry you feel icky Kimber. If you're that achy and running a temp I think rest is best. I have run with a low grade temp if I'm not achy, and I've run with a cold when I don't have a fever, but you sound really strung out. I know how it can be though! Taking a rest day is getting harder for me to do :)

I was going to try for 10 today but only made it 8.5. The last part was I was really pushing. I'm back to wondering if I can really stay the distance for 13 miles... I've got just under 5 weeks to go.

I didn't go into a coma today after eating, but I did get "the headache". It didn't come on for almost 4 hours post run though.

Kevin, I'm looking forward to running through Ben Hill Griffin stadium at the end of the 1/2 and getting my medal from Albert the Alligator :). If I make it, of course! I'm only a Gator by osmosis. I went to college in North Dakota and Minnesota. But it's infectious here. I think it's something they put in the water ;)

Keep on runnin' safe y'all!

Nico

Re: The Long Haul - Still Running!!
another run day, another storm. tis the season I guess. looks like I have another date with the elliptical tonight. I could run the track at the gym but every time I do I end up feeling discouraged I hate it so much.

Re: The Long Haul - Still Running!!
I know what you mean Doug about the gym. It is very hard for me to get motivation at a gym. This was the reason I gave my membership up a year ago. I know lots of people out there are getting bad weather but in a short time it will be spring and we will all be better for sticking to our runs during the winter. Living in a warmer climate I vow never to complain about cold weather after reading the posts of some runners and the weather they have to deal with.

Perhaps this running thing is contagious. My wife went with me as cheerleader for my first run last weekend and she was pretty inspired. She is now considering herself to kick the couch of doom and starting C25K. Of course I am trying to be encouraging to her without being pushy. It needs to be her decision and not my nagging to get her on the road. Her biggest obstacle to running is cold weather. Even in a warmer climate during the winter she is cold.

Re: The Long Haul - Still Running!!

well, I broke down and got a treadmill (gotta love those after xmas sales). winter storms and gym be damned I'm gonna get my runs in somehow. cold weather doesn't bother me too much (except when the temp gets down to -15C) but my city is slushy, stormy, and just gross for most of the winter.

funny you should mention running being contagious. shortly after I told my wife about the treadmill she started asking about c25k. take your wife out and get her some cold weather gear, might help ease her into running in the cold...
