Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Jan 21-27

Oh I got the guest thing too! I guess active have been playing again, I thought the site had remembered me! I just filled out the name and email detains at the top of this screen where I write my post so will see if that puts my name to the post.

I don't know why they don't just have a remember me feature!

Nope it did not work and it won't let me edit the post!

Sometimes I think Active are making this so much more confusing than it need be!

Just remember me Active! Then I won't have to keep figuring out your darn crazy login process!

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Jan 21-27
wow... login is all crazy today!
it is 12:45am and I am tired, tried going to sleep 45 min ago but coughing so much that I can't get to sleep. I finally gave in & took some Nyquil so that I can get some rest. I was feeling much better today but everything is breaking up in my chest & I've been coughing all day - my chest & stomach muscles ache from all the coughing. ok, enough whining! but I'd like to know if can I count that as my ab workout for the week ;)

brandyshea - loved your little snowman :) my sis just moved to Vestavia Hills with her new husband. are you far from there? it would be cool if we could meet up if I come to visit her. Great job on your solo long run in the harsh winter weather!

nhmommy - sorry to hear that you've been told to cut back on your mileage... at least you can still run 12 mpw. that is good that the doc didn't take it completely away. what a bummer about the HM, could you possibly run/walk it instead?

kristen - glad to hear you are doing well. wow, running 5 days a week is great & throwing in some extra cardio is awesome too. I'm sure you'll see that scale moving down soon.

Bodacious - that is so great that you are being such a good influence on your son. my SIL said that is was my success on WW that prompted her to rejoin & I had my other SIL (on my side of the family) join a few months ago & said it was because of me that she decided to try WW. so guess that we are influencing people in a good way :) glad the wolves are keeping away now! so far all my long runs average about 11:30 pace & it feels good - it's a good comfortable pace for me. amazing that I can speed up to 9mm on shorter runs! the hardest part about the HM was running 12:40-13:30 pace, that was much slower than anything I've run since I graduated from c25k.

thisyear - I was so confused by who "guest" was - LOL I completely agree with you, in that we need a diet that we can live with for the rest of our lives. I did an Atkins-like diet and lost tons of weight & gained it all back plus lots more... I can't even count the number of people that happens to. It's hard when you see that it can work so fast and it's so tempting to want to do a low-carb diet so that you can see the weight go away quickly. WW is not a fast weight loss diet but it is one you can use for the rest of your life & I think that's the most important thing. I just went back & read your last post on the last week's thread. I average about 18-25 mpw & run 4 days a week. I just ran a HM on 1/12 and I am currently training for my HM in March. Did you see my menu posted earlier today? I am going to try & post this week to keep me more aware of what I should be eating each day. Sometimes it's easier if I plan my day in advance & then I don't get stuck being hungry & make a bad choice when I can't decide what I want to eat.

beachbum - I use to live in Clearwater, it's a nice area but Bradenton/Sarasota is even better - just an hour south of there and not nearly as much traffic and snowbirds ;) some of us do meetings, some online & some just follow WW or something similar on their own... we welcome everyone here!

stillplugginaway - love the mental image of picking off other runners. lol enjoy your morning run on the TM... we'll be sweltering in the mid 70s by the afternoon here. so much for our cold weather! lol

nhissteps - welcome to the board & congrats on your huge weight loss & running success. I just ran the Disney HM & it was amazing to see all the Team in Training people there & the support rallying for them on the sidelines. Made me wish I was in purple too ;) There was one guy out there waving a sign & wearing only shorts & painted from head to waist in purple, it was pretty funny. glad you found us!

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Jan 21-27

Morning everyone. I am new here! I have been a long time poster at WW message boards and just recently started the C25K program, I am in week 2. I happened to come across a post on the WW boards that mentioned message boards on this site so I thought I would check it out! http://community.active.com/images/emoticons/blush.gif

I have posted this in a few other places already but thought I would post it here to, to get your all opinions! Thanks!

i have a question for you guys. i am in week 2 of the c25k program. i am loving it! my problem is i can not run outside and i do not belong to a gym. i have a treadmill at home that i have been using but it is having "issues" and i am not sure how much longer its going to holdup and i cant afford to replace it at this time. i also have an elliptical, is there a way and if so how, could i use the elliptical in place of the treadmill for running purposes. i am just praying the treadmill keeps on a rolling! LOL!

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Jan 21-27

Good Afternoon All,

I am not going into WW this week. I'll make in there next week or so. Since I am a LifeTimer that recently returned to drop some poundage, I feel like I need to return to the points program. Core seems simple, but is a lot harder for me.

I haven't returned to journaling my food as yet. I don't know about you guys, but I find that my appetite is naturally curbed when I am working out and I am eating to fuel the body. When I fall off the workout wagon then I am eating for... well... I don't know what, but it sure ain't pretty. ;\

I am starting W2D1 of the C25K tomorrow. Since I completed my first 1/2 marathon this month, the whole race thing has bitten me. I love the idea of getting a number and walking (soon to be running) with a crowd. Who knew that I would get into something like this at 41!

Michele

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Jan 21-27

Blamaxguncc- I am not sure where you live, but can you run outside? Be careful on treadmill that is on its way out....you dont want to fall or hurt a knee or something. The ellipitcal is great but I am not sure you could use it to replace running as the motion and pounding is different on your body. I love the ellipitcal and use one when I can but I run outside as long as its not icy. I say that as we got sheets of ice last night....no run for me this morning. An excuse I suppose to lift weights?

nosirraham- Welcome! I am new to this board too! We are close to the same age and I hope to run my first 1/2 this year.

Wow all of your weight loss is so inspirational. I weighed in early as I am leaving for Denver tommorow and I was down 1....24 to go ! LOL. I really appreciate all the help and new ideas...but mostly your success have really impressed me. The posting of the menu's gives me a little better smarter options. Today was an example of things getting wacky. I had a customer call and I had to meet her at 12:30 before my appointment at 1:30...when was I supposed to eat lunch? I just went to subway and stayed OP!

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Jan 21-27

**Warning....Long Post**

Hi All...I've been MIA for the past few days due to some technical difficulties, although not on the part of Active. MY DSL at home was a little wacko and since I am at Zion tonight I had the opportunity to sign on and check in with you all. I will have to say that it about drove me nuts not being able to check in with you all :D Tomorrow I head out for another week and a half of travels. I'm not certain that I'm going to be able to stay as on plan as I did on my last trip. Tomorrow I fly to Yellowstone where I will spend a 4 day weekend with some old friends. I just hope all the x-country skiing will balance out the beer consumption ?:| I fly from there Sunday to Death Valley where I have a week long conference to attend. Every night there is a different cocktail/reception/dinner party to attend. Oh well, I'll just do best I can. Tomorrow is WI day and I'll be attending a meeting in the town where Shannon lives (Shannon wish you were around to go to the meeting with me :) ) I hope to see the scale move more this week than it has the last couple of weeks. On Sunday I started the Hal Higdon 8 week 5K training program but must admit that I made some small adjustments, but I'm happy to be back on a "training plan" so to speak.

Looks like there are some new faces on here so I'll give a quick bio for myself ;) I'm a almost 32 year old female and I live in Southern Utah. I joined WW back in mid-September. I have lost 39lbs so far. About a month after joining WW I started the C25K program which I completed in December. I also do weight training and have become quiet addicted to Spinning ]:) I'm signed up to run my first 5K at Lake Mead on March 15th. A couple of other folks around here have been discussing triatlones and I must admit that that has been on my mind a lot lately and as of now I'm shooting for a Tri NEXT summer. I first have to learn the proper form and techniques of swimming before I can do a Tri :) Oh, and I started posting on this board around mid to late October and have found the folks here very inspiring and helpful and I think you will too.

Happy glad to hear that you enjoyed Kite Runner. Did you make it to see Juno? What did you think of that one?

Mel congrats for staying OP while at the party. Are you feeling all better yet?

Brandy I loved your snowman. I grew up in South Mississippi and I remember one year it snowed on my birthday (April 2nd) and I thought that was the coolest thing. I guess when you got your snow in Alabama is also snowed as far south as Hattiesburg, MS which is about 40 minutes from where my family lives so my brother and his wife drove my nieces up there to play in the snow :)

Nhmommy sorry to hear about your medical complications. Hope your back up to full swing before you know it. Stop in when you can and let us know how you are doing.

Kristen good luck with getting back on plan with WW. It sounds like your running is going well.

Thisyear welcome to the group. Good luck with deciding what plan you want to use. I'm on the flex plan but try to use as many core foods as possibly and eat a limited amount of processed sugars, etc. I'm not sure who it was that said there were going to adopt the flore plan, but I think I'll go with that too :D

Beachbum welcome to the group as well. I'm originally from Wiggins, MS which if you live on the coast I'm sure you at least know where that is. I now live at 8000 ft elevation and I must admit while the humidity was a little tough on me when I was recently home over the holidays, I sure did love that I could run much faster at sea level than I can at 8000ft elevation.

Stillpluggin good luck with your LONG run this week. I'm telling you I am awed at how far you've come in less than a year. You ROCK!!

NHissteps glad you found us. Your weight loss so far is very inspiring. Keep up the good work.

BO hope you enjoyed your 3 day weekend. Wish the gym would have been opened so you could have made another spin class :)

Blahmaxguncc welcome and good luck with your running. Hope your TM works holds out for you at least until you can get outside and run. You mentioned you can't run outside and I'm assuming maybe that's because of weather conditions. I've never used an elliptical so I can't really say whether or not that can replace running but if for some reason you can't run the elliptical would certainly be better than nothing as far as cardio exercise goes.

Shannon I hope your meeting is going well for you!!

Take care all and I will check back in with you at my next opportunity!

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Jan 21-27

Hey everyone! Sorry I've been missing for a week or so....I've been reading sporadically. I have managed to get back in the swing of running though. Last week ran 1.5, walked 0.5 and ran 1.5 (all outside...brrrr!!!) then managed to do 3 miles straight on the treadmill without any walking so I think I'm getting back to the cardio point where I'm not tired! And I even ran the 3 miles at 9:30 pace (treadmill though). YEAH! I have to say this past week has been HORRIBLE for eating.....I have literally eaten out 7 of the past 7 days. Friend's bday, after work get-together, bachelorette party (that was bad), bridal shower and then another dinner with a friend. But at weigh in today I was DOWN 0.8lbs. Although overall I am basically back at the weight before I went on the cruise over a month ago. I have been dealing with the same one pound up and down for over a month. I need to get refocused and on track since I only have 6 lbs to go for my goal! And I'd like to get there before my 1 year mark with WW (!st week of march). Definately doable if i get on the ball.

Congrats Gatergirl on the Disney 1/2!!!!! That is so exciting and sounds like such a great race. I love disney and just did the Tower of Terror 6.5km in October. I'd love to get down there for the 1/2 sometime! Sounds like you had a great race! Way to go at the party too! No cake AND no ice cream? I bow to you!

Happy - I love movies! Let me know how the Juno was if you see it....my two WW buddies have been wanting to see it! I really want to see 27 dresses!

Brandyshea - good job on the 10 miles solo! I love the snowman!

nhmommy - sorry to hear about the injury. the good side is that you CAN still run, just less. I know it's disappointing....I had the stress fracture all dec and couldn't run. but i had to come to the realization that my body was telling me something. I was trying to train for too much too quickly. I have since decided to bag the Shamrock 1/2 in March in VA (much to my disappointment) because I think I need a lot more time to establish a base running before I get my body up to that much mileage. It sucks, and I'm disappointed....but even though it's been hard the past few weeks getting back in the swing of running (since I couldn't run AT ALL)....I'm back and I LOVE it and realize how much I missed it . Good luck, and you'll get back there.....your body just needs a break. Listen to it.

Thisyear - nice to meet you! I hear you about the weddings! My two college friends that I go to WW with are in a weddig with me in Oct and I can't wait! It's such great motivation! I'm in another wedding next month, and we just went for the dress fitting this weekend and the seemstress said to me...."you;ve lost weight....i have to take this in." Now I feel like I'm katherine hegal from 27 dresses, because I've been in like 10 weddings, and HAVE NEVER HAD TO HAVE A DRESS TAKEN IN! i'm still on cloud 9 about it!

beachbum45 - welcome....you're in a great spot and the C25k is a great program. stick with it!

plugginaway - aren't some people just amazing at how fast they can run for miles and miles? I was so excited the first 5k that I ran and my pace was under the big 10:00 mark! Dont know how much further I'll ever get it, but that was my big milestone!

nhissteps - congrats on the weight loss and welcome! awesome job on the previous 1/2 in virginia. I was going to do the Shamrock 1/2 in march, but have since had to back out because of a stress fracture last month.

lifeintheparks - I've traveled quite a bit for work over the past year on WW and if you try to bring things to lecture and stuff throughout the day and plan your breakfast/lunch by bringing things with you, that will help at dinner/cocktail time. try to eliminate the alcohol or minimize it, and save your pooints for the food! also keep exercising! that;s what has worked for me!

Blamaxguncc - welcome! i don't use the elipitcal, but i agree that it's better than no cardio. I have to say that from when I used to do it years ago, it probably is a bit different from running...but will help with at least being some cardio!

I'm also posting some background info for all the new people! I'm 30 years old from upstate NY (yes it's definately cold!). I joined WW in March 2006 with 2 friends from college, and have lost just over 50 lbs in the past year. I ran my first 5k memorial day weekend last year in a bit over 39 minutes. I;'ve done a dozen or so since then and my PR is 29:23...almost 10 minutes better! I started traininig for a 1/2 marathon in novemeber (goal was shamrock 1/2 in march 2008) and then got sidelined by a stress fracture in my foot in december. I'm back on track now, and have 6 lbs to go to my goal weight. I'm going to focus this year on building more of a base mileage for 6 months or so, and then maybe try for a fall 1/2. I run outside (usually) with a garmin which is GREAT! I love my ipod and don't know if i could run without it!

~

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Jan 21-27

Morning,

I have such good non-running, non WW news! I got the scoring for my NLN test that I took a couple of weeks ago and I won't be needing to take it again next year! My numbers were so much better than I thought they would be and they are good for two years. The nursing schools will only consider candidates who score higher than 50% of the test taking population. My verbal was 95% better than the test taking population, science was 88% and math was 84%. I was expecting to see 20's and 30's and would have to spend the next year studying to increase them. I think I cried happy tears for the first time in my life yesterday. That is my happy, happy, joy, joy news of the day!

Got my 7 in yesterday at the gym as expected and today is a scheduled DOR but I think I may go and swim or do something at the gym. I have way to much adrenaline energy from my good news that I need to channel. We went out and celebrated last night and I stayed POP with a heart healthy baked haddock, mushrooms, side salad and a glass of white wine.

I have to go wake up the family now - so enjoy your day and every single point!!

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Jan 21-27

Happy Penguin and Cherbear- thanks for the welcome! I'm starting off with a 1200 calorie a day for a few weeks to kick it off with a coworker who is doing the same. We'll keep each other on track for now. I'm 45, 5'8 and 180 pounds, so have a ways to go. I'll be here with y'all for the rest of my C25K time!

Gatorgirl- I'm hoping to get back to Clearwater area this summer, we absolutely LOVED the sunsets! They are amazing. Maybe we'll get to see more of the area if we get to spend a whole week there. We love everything about Florida.

Lifeintheparks- Wiggins is only 30 minutes north of me, so I'm familiar- LOL! After Katrina, lots of folks moved north to that area. Its getting to be a much busier little area. I live about 2 blocks off the beach and drive to work down the beach highway- its so relaxing.

I love that y'all post daily menus so the rest of us get ideas for a meal or two. Thanks! How many "points" do you get per day?

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Jan 21-27

Good Morning Everyone,

I haven't weighed myself in a while...I wanted to get back into the routine of going to the gym and a regular eating schedule before I did the weighing. I know I've gained since my loss over the summer. I think I've gained about 5lbs (between Sept-Jan)... I mostly feel it in the tummy area. Anyway, I'm getting back on track here and since I'll be starting to train for the Tri, I'm hoping the weight will come off a bit easier. I think the swimming will help out a lot. I'm actually going to sign up for a private lesson to make sure my form and technique are OK.

*Happy *- can you add my Tri to the list of races - IRON GIRL COLUMBIA TRIATHLON - August 24, 2008

BlaMaxGunCC - Welcome. I hope your treadmill holds up.

Cherbear - Way to go on the 0.8 loss

Pluggin - Yay!!!!!! on your NLN test - Congrats!

Hi to everyone else I missed....Sorry i don't have time for more personals.

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Jan 21-27

Hi All,

Yesterday I ran 5 miles on the treadmill and biked five miles on the stationary bike. I have found my new favorite thing to do while running, listen to music and read People magazine!! I had tried to read my book, but it was taking me 5 minutes per page and I would need to look up to refocus my eyes many times per page but the magazine's print is a little bigger so it works a lot better! And I also won't allow myself to read the magazine unless I am running so it is a good incentive to run. Then I get to read my book while I do the bike/elliptical/cross trainer (I do each one once a week).

There seem to be a lot of new people on the board, so I will reintroduce myself. I am 24 and have very recently moved to Boston from NJ. I have been running races for two years now and have been a member of coolrunning and WW since last Feb. I can't believe that I have been posting on this thread now for a year...even though I hardly post...oops. I have ran 3 HM, 4 10 milers and many other races.

Melanie-WHOOHOO on you 1/2!!!!! You worked so hard for it, I'm happy it went so well for you!! You have inspired me to make a race shirt for my upcoming race! My sister recently moved to NC but before we both moved she came to 3/4 of all my races to cheer me on. She is the only person in my family that made an effort to come out and it really means a lot to me, so I decided to make a t-shirt with her pic on it holding up a sign cheering me on. I thought it would be a funny way to show her that i appreciate her support.

Blamax-As others have said, the elliptical is not an exact substituin for running since them motion and impact are differnt. I find the elliptical to be much easier, but its also a very good cardio workout! Is there a way you could drive to a park to run, or just run around your block. You may also want to look into any local gyms near you that may be getting rid of their old treadmills, you may be able to get it at a really reasonable price and even though it may be very used it could last you a couple years until you save up fr another one.

Thisyear-WHooHOO for the 1 pound loss!!

Lifenthe-Yellowstone sounds like it will be so much fun! Have a great time!

Happy-I loved Juno also, I went into it thinking it would be only ok, but I actually was cracking up during it and at the same time you respected the seriousness of the situation. Great movie! You come up with such interesting meal plans.......you put so much effort into making sure that you have such a variety of foods, I bow down to you! I'm happy if I get myself to make something simple like healthy ckn parm :)

Brandy-Your little snowman made me crack up!

Pluggin-Triple WHOOHOO for your AWESOME test scores!!!! Your miss Speedy Gonzales, I'm happy while training if i keep it to 10:10 miles. Whoohoo for your amazing distances and speed in just a year!!

Cherbear-Whoohoo for being able to run again!!

Maxie congrats on the Tri

Bodacious-Did the spinning class bother your IT band at all? Whoohoo for doing your first spinning class, I still have not gotten the nerve up to try it yet. Sounds like your son id doing well also, with starting to eat better and workout! Isn't it great when you can motivate the people you love! I think it's great how you are trying to fit in a race when you have a move and your sons wedding all at the same time! Thats dedication!!

Sorry for the extremly long post!

Have a wonderful day!!
