TT, the shoes are Mizumo Wave Riders, yeah, baby! I am waycool!!! Am really interested in a heart-rate monitor and how to use it. Any suggestions on where to start?

My turn, stay with us! We all are worried about lack of structure now that C25K ends, but our commitment stands-----hang tough! JCSM, those are IMPRESSIVE numbers! Wow, you are really moving!

On the other hand, I had a rather discouraging run today. Not sure if it was the weather (24 degrees here in Dixie) but I only went 26 minutes (a slow 2 miles) before I had to take a walk-break. Picked back up and went another 5-6 but had lost my steam. So I'm counting it as W9D1.5! REALLY WORRIED about going 3 miles 3 weeks from now.

I'm undecided about what program to do next. I think OHR for now, build up time and work on distance later. Also I can make the thrice weekly commitment, although there are weeks I really want to run more often. I may change my mind and program later! Ali/Cindy--any ideas where you'll go from here?

In case I seem like a table-obssessed weirdo, I have to tell you I am not always this detail oriented. Just seemed like a good idea, If there are errors, forgive me as I'm watching football, too. lizard

Wow!! We have graduates! Congratulations everyone!! Very impressive numbers JCSM!

I completed W9D2 this morning and hope to finish the program on Tuesday!! Before I start HHST I'm going to run 4 days next week and try to get 3 miles in under 30 minutes. I've got a 5K on February 19th and would love to finish in under 30 minutes.

Great job everyone! Keep up the good work!

CHEERS!

Re: LEAGUE OF LIZARDS (Week of January 20); Now What??

Way to go graduates!! I know you must be so dang proud!! Finished WK9 D1 today- on the home stretch! I have decided to do the one hour runner plan- a half marathon is just too big a hurdle for me as I am only going about 2 miles in 30 minutes (15 min miles) at this point. Maybe sometime down the road, I could think about training for a half marathon, but right now- I still am working up to running 3.1 miles straight! Sorry about your run today Lizard. It can be downright discouraging to have a bad day- at least it can for me! I ran Saturday evening in the cold and rain and just could not get it going. I finally just had to stop after only 1.25 miles and burst into tears. My husband was great and able to pull me together and focus on the accomplishment rather than the failure I saw it as- So I can relate to having a bad run- and frankly, I am glad I am not alone. Not that I would wish a bad run on anyone, because it can be horribly deflating to your ego, but just knowing that I am not the only one takes some of the pressure off. Here's to the Graduates for this week: GOOD LUCK EVERYONE AND CONGRATULATIONS!

Can't believe I have made it this far! Keep up the great work everyone. It is very motivating! :D

Re: LEAGUE OF LIZARDS (Week of January 20); Now What??

Hooray for the new thread!

Ali/Lizard, I totally know what you both mean about bad runs. I had my worst run of the program back in week 7 when I could only go 21 minutes instead of the 25. It really can take a bite out of your self-confidence. It definitely did for me. But I realize now that everyone has a run like that every so often, and that's OK :)

Will pop in tomorrow after my FINAL C25K run! Congrats to all the graduates so far! Assuming all goes well tomorrow, I plan to start right in on HHST the following day, rather than skipping a week. If it proves to be too demanding, I can always adjust but I'm not really all that nervous about it considering the first run is only 1.5 miles.

Go team :)

Hey Homeskillets!

I am very proud of those who have already finished! Good for you! I went to day and had a lovely run, I am starting to drop some weight and starting to feel like a hoochie mama! I am back to the point where I can feel every muscle in my body moving. Makes me feel like a bad ***! And to think 7 degrees nearly kept me from leaving the house!

Nighty-night

Hey Lizards!!
I'm sorry to hear about the bad runs lizard/ali, but think of all the progress we've all made. There are empty couches all over the place!!
I finished Week 9 Day 1 last night. I think the OHR program will work best for me - I'd like to get use to running/jogging 30 minutes straight and this program allows for that. Still haven't signed up for a 5K yet - I'm thinking about one in March - still too chicken to sign up though.

Congratulations to all of our GRADUATES!!!

Re: LEAGUE OF LIZARDS (Week of January 20); Now What??
Hiya, just checking in. I am considering today Week 2, Day 1 of the OHR program. It calls for running 30 minutes 3 times a week for 3 weeks to begin with so I am including the last week of C25K as the first week. Otherwise I will be running for 30 minutes 3 x a week for a month and that sounds very boring to me. Does that make sense?

lizard, sorry about the crappy run. Those are so frustrating. I have a very basic and old Polar S120 heart rate monitor. Here's a link to figure out a your ranges but you will need to know your resting heart rate and your max before you can get ranges: http://www.ottawarun.com/heartrate.htm

Ohio, are you excited for your Feb 19 race? I have been toying with the idea of signing up for the Carlsbad 5000 on April 6. I have not fully committed to the idea of it though.

Ali- bad runs suck. But you were out there making the attempt and that's all that counts. Keep at it sister!

nyc, good luck on your final run!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sarah, you ARE a bad a** !

slwrunner, I loved your comment that there are empty couches everywhere. How true it is.

How's everyone else doing so far this week?

Peace out- Turtle

Congrats for all the league of Lizards graduates. Look how far you have come in 9 weeks. For any of you that have not signed up for a local 5K get out and do it. The feeling of being able run a road race and not only finish but be prepared for the race is great. You will also get your first race bib. Take it and frame it, this is your diploma for C25K. You all have the right idea, this is not the end of C25K but the beginning of your life as a runner. Now it is your turn to be the C25K experts :)

C25K DONE! I also broke 50 miles today since I started running (I've been tracking my mileage since week 1.) Woo hoo!! Thanks so much for everyone's support. I couldn't have done it without you.

Tomorrow begins HHST -- 1.5 miles should be easy. Looking forward to it...

NYC,

I hope to see you on the HHST thread. I am starting my WK4 of it today but the thread has runners in all weeks of training.

Re: LEAGUE OF LIZARDS (Week of January 20); Now What??

Ok team, time to move on...

I've been reading A LOT and here is my plan for the following 42 weeks (in november, I'll run Nike 10K and I must be in peak condition)

a) Base Building: 10 weeks using OHR combined with Parker program that Turtle shared with me. It means running three times a week (maybe some weeks will include an additional day). I will run at 70% HR according Karvonen and in my middle run of the week I will spend 1 or 2 miles running at more than 80%. These 10 weeks will be used to train my aerobic system and the runs will be slow to keep in this heart rate range. According to Parker, this will help me run faster at the same HR.

After finishing this 10 weeks I'll run a 5K to test my VDOT, an index that shows my current condition according to some tables included in the book that I'll mention next.

b) Jack Daniels' Formula, Red Plan: This is not the name of a drink but the name of the best running coach in the world according to Runners World Magazine. He wrote a book that includes a lot of science. The book has a white, red, blue and gold plan. The red plan is the one that I'll follow. It includes not only easy runs but also tempo and interval runs.

The program will take 16 weeks to complete and, according to Daniels, I'll be in a much better condition. The program demands 4 days per week. At the end of these four months I'll run another 5K to test my new condition.

c) Finally, I will follow a 16-week plan created by SmartCoach (look at www.runnersworld.com). This is an idividualized program for you: You decide how many weeks it will last, what will be your weekly mileage, how much you want to increase it, etc. After finishing this 16 weeks that include both base training and speedworks, I'll run Nike 10k. My goal is to run it in less than 55 minutes... better if I can run a sub 50-minute race... let's see what happens...

By the way, yesterday I ran W1D1 of OHR...

Keep running !!

Re: LEAGUE OF LIZARDS (Week of January 20); Now What??

Congrats on finishing the 3M lizard! I am a little nervous about my 5K myself, as it is in less than two weeks and I still have yet to actually run 5K. I did day 1 of HHST this morning, running 1.5 miles at about an 11:45 pace. Day 2 (tomorrow) calls for 3 miles, so we will see how I do with that. Mainly I would just like to finish without walking, but it would be a major bonus if I could do it in under 40 minutes.

Happy running!
