Re: FINISHERS... Week 3 (C25K)

Hola! Just checking in online friend-a-rinos!

I've got W3 Day 2 tonight and I'm actually looking forward to it. We went for a nice hike yesterday in the beautiful Sourland Mountains. Although I have always enjoyed hiking I always thought of it as exercise but now that I've been C25k-ing it seemed so restful! My knees were hurting pretty bad yesterday. It was below freezing here so I popped a couple Advils when I got home. That did the trick and today I seem to be just fine. I'll try the icing technique next time.

Irish-hang in there! You may find the next run easier! Drew, thanks for the Week 3 thread! Glad to have you on board Hawaii! I can't beleive we're in week 3!!! Great job getting here everyone, especially those with kids, school and other responsibilities! My hat's off to you!

Re: FINISHERS... Week 3 (C25K)
W3D1 finished! I was worried about today. It was a little tough since I now have a head cold. we also focued on large muscles last night in my spinning class, so I.m feeling it today. Since I run an a treadmill, I haven't downloaded Ullery's podcast because I like to watch T.V. while I work out:x . I break down my time as to when I should run or walk. I think that I will download it for week 4 though.

Re: FINISHERS... Week 3 (C25K)
Sounds like we've heard from most people but I expect a few are doing W3D1 today. I don't have an iPod or MP3 player so what I do at the beginning of the week is write out my interval times on a scrap piece of paper & carry it in my pocket. I use a watch with a stop watch setting so this week it looks like this: W - 05.00, J - 06.30, W - 08.00, J - 11.00... I think you get the idea. It works.

Re: FINISHERS... Week 3 (C25K)
Go Jawja!! It sounds like most are finding week 3 not as scary as we thought it would be. Go FINISHERS! I have my last run tomorrow am and I'm not apprehensive about my W4D1 on Friday now that I did W3 easier than the past two weeks. I looked at runs online in my area last night and think I may be ready to commit to a date in March or April. :x

Re: FINISHERS... Week 3 (C25K)

jawja, that's great! Even if you were wobbly & heaving at the end of it, didn't you fell great? I know I did. I felt as proud as if I'd finished a race. And why shouldn't any of us feel that way? Ultimately we're our own best training buddy AND competition. Three minutes of straight running? LESS than 3 weeks ago, we couldn't do that. Now, we have proof positive that we can indeed.

Beachbum, glad to have you just a few days ahead. You can help confirm what we think we fel happening with our own runs. Although the running was longer, I also felt it was easier somehow. Maybe this middle aged body is finally getting this running stuff sorted out -form, stride length & pace needed to go the distance... it worked Monday & if my body 'remembers' it, I'm good to go the next few sessions.

Has anyone else noticed an overall improvement in how they feel? My mood is more even, stress is well, less stressful - LOL! - my appetite is better & sleep is more refreshing. I'm walking with better posture & seem more economical in my movements. I'm also doing every other day strength workouts - just light stuff but that effort, miserable as it can seem during the odd moment, feels GOOD. Soon, I'm hoping that the scrawny little muscles I have will firm up, then go a little bit. I'm sick of loking like the female version of before photos of Charles Atlas - the 97 pound weakling. Inside this pale, weak, scrawny shell, there's a bundle of dynamite struggling to get out.

Luckily, at 47, there's plenty of patience & THAT I'm gonna need! One step, one day at a time. Run Two tomorrow.

Re: FINISHERS... Week 3 (C25K)

Slogon- I just did W3D3!! FINISHED it! Yeah! I did TM again today and put the incline on 3 for the warm up 5 minutes and then put it back to 2 for the rest, but that little change made the whole thing a little tougher today. Also on the last run, just to challenge myself further (since nothing was hurting) I did an extra minute to make 4 minutes to see if I could do it. Yeah! I think Friday is 3 minutes then 5 minutes, so I am confident I can manage that even though I know it will be tough to do that 4 times. I'm doing 1200 calorie diet and that may have made today harder too, as I didn't eat yet, just had coffee which is what I always do in the early am runs. I'll see how Friday goes. I'm 45 and 180 pounds, so want to loose back to 150 minimum, maybe 130. That's what I weighed at 20. I'm 5'8. Big challenge!

For all the rest of you FINISHERS... you're almost there at the end of W3- keep going- its not as bad as you thought. Push on- it feels amazing to complete each run, whoever said its like we just finished a 5K, that is how I feel too! Very satisfied after its done, mood very elevated for the rest of the day- I love run days! Go Team!

Re: FINISHERS... Week 3 (C25K)
Howdy. Finished W3 Day 2 last night. It was pretty doable although for the first time, my legs were feeling tired by the end. Usually it had been my lungs that were the problem. For some reason, my lungs seem to have adjusted nicely-a feat I thought was impossible! I have a 12.5 hour day again today and then ballroom dancing tomorrow night so the last run will have to wait until Friday after work. Bummer. Congrats on those who have already finished W3 and enjoy your run to all who are still running week 3! Go TEAM!

Re: FINISHERS... Week 3 (C25K)

Slogon

I have definitely noticed a change in my mood. I am feeling so much better, can't really explain it, just better. I have a head cold right now but I completed w3d1 yesterday and survived. I actually feel a lot better today so I'm contributing this fast recovery to exercise. I have my spinning class tonight and will complete w3d2 tomorrow. I want to try and increase my speed but I really struggle through the walks. yeasterday I did my first brisk walk at 3.5 (can't seem to go any faster than that) and the rest of them were at 3.2. My runs I am at 4.0 but the last run I increased it to 4.5.

Also, I have started drinking the whey powder once a day. I am hoping that it will not put any extra pounds on me. Just drinking one full scoop with FF skim milk for now and when the milk is gone I may just use water. I think that I can benefit from the extra protein I just really don't want to put on any extra pounds or bulk up from it. I know that I need to get on some king of low calorie diet real soon.

Re: FINISHERS... Week 3 (C25K)
Way to go BeachBum, Lane & Alcesalces! I'll be doing my D2 later today. Slept poorly - seems like gallons of crud want to come out of my lungs so I was coughing a lot. In the end, it's all good - cleaner lings make for better running. Maybe by the time I eat & drink, that will calm down for a while. If the cold wind out there will calm a bit too, all the better. Today: W3D2 & SmokeFeeDayFour...
