Half Marathon Course - turn-by-turn description

A friend and I are flying down from Illinois to run the half, partially to escape the winter doldrums and partially because we both have family in the Tampa area. I ran the half last year and somewhat remember the course, but my friend's father (he is in his 80s, bless his heart!) is interested in checking out the course beforehand. I think he wants to drive it and get a sense of what it's all about. Both parents want to come down to the start/finish area and cheer us on!

I ran the half last year and somewhat remember the course. The pdf map of the course is a bit hard to read. I know that the course starts on the bridge near the convention center and finishes along Bayshore Boulevard. I also remember running through some areas of very nice homes, but don't know what the street names are.

Also, what are the logistics of an elderly couple navigating through the crowds at the start/finish area? They are in good shape physically but I know it is very crowded there. Are there good vantage points to view the course?

Any info I could pass along would be helpful. Thanks so much.

Anne

Re: Half Marathon Course - turn-by-turn description

I found the street by street, this should help you as far as directions. You might want to look to the map while reading this otherwise you may get confused being form out of town. Gasparilla also has a map online that shows street names http://www.realbuzz.com/route_tampa/map.php you may notice that some of these are one way streets that you cant drive on, but you can look around and see the course, just not be able to drive the 13.1 an tone time.

As for your family, they will be able to see you finish but they wont get in the chute, as i recall it was closed for runners only. You can reunite after on the Platt st bridge where the post race food is held.
