Spirit of the marathon - thoughts

Hi Everyone,

I'm sure a few of you fellow runners watched the movie Spirit of The Marathon last evening in a local theater. If you weren't able but would like to attend I hear there's an encore scheduled in many major cities set for February see the link below:

http://www.marathonmovie.com/home.html

I and a group of my local running team watched the film here in Boston. I can't speak for everyone but I certainly enjoyed seeing some of our marathon heros and heroines discussing their running and plans for the marathon as well as the average runners with whom most of us can identify. I thought the film captured much of the essence of the full range of emotions and motivations for why we run and just thought I'd see what other's thought of the film.

Stephen

This movie is not going to be anywhere near where I live... do you know if they'll be selling DVDs? I really want to see it.

Stephen, I agree, it was treat to see the heroes of the marathon talk about the event. I also liked seeing the average runners, they were often quite funny.

I loved it! It was so inspiring to see so many types of people, at various levels, and so many ages training and running a marathon. I am training for my first half and the movie made me want to skip it and go straight for a full 26.2 :) The older runner had quite a good sense of humor about him too. I really liked it...I hope it comes out on DVD so I can get it. It had a great message...anyone can do it...we all may have different reasons...but it is an attainable goal!

Re: Spirit of the marathon - thoughts
I saw it last Thursday as well. I live just outside of Chicago so it was great to see the "home field" on the big screen.

I found it to be very inspirational as well as insightful as to why people from all walks of life start running. At the end of the movie I was re-thinking whether I'd stay away from the marathon distance in '08. I don't know how much longer I'll be in Chicago and it would seem a little foolish not to have run it while I lived here.

Also I hoped you stayed around after the credits to watch the other features. I'd say half of the crowd at our theater left thinking the movie was over.

I loved the movie! First, I was nice to be around runners and listening to them talk about running. I ran a half last year and I am running my fisrt marathon this year but I have to admit that I was a little scared thinking "how can I run 26.2 miles." But after watching the movie and seeing other ordinary people train and complete it, now I know I can do it.
