ACL Recovery Weak Quad

Hi,

I am not a runner but I thought you guys could help me out. I tore my acl two years ago and had surgery on it two years ago. I had a terrible time with PT. I went for 6 months 2 to 3 times a weak but came out of it with a weak quad still after all that time! I had a lot of bitterness towards the clinic b/c I think some of the stuff they made me do injured my knee more...anyone heard of the omnitron machine?

Long story short. Two years later and my quad is still weak which I know affects my knee. I can't run without limping and when I do run I can tell my muscles are not supporting my knee enough.

Is there any hope for a stronger quad after two years? I have not worked out consistently in about 4 months b/c I got discouraged. It seems that I am not making progress when I do work out. Any advice?

I just joined and saw your letter, I hope you are better by now, but in case not, I am a runner recovering from ACL surgery also and found exercises that made my kneecap slide too much very irritating. Try sitting against the wall with legs outstretched and lift one leg at a time and rotate it from the hip back and forth about 30 secs and alternate legs. It strenthens quads without hurting the knee.
