Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Jan 28-Feb3
Howdy everyone and a special shout to our newbies this week :)

I have not worked out today yet, as soon as I am done with this post I am off to the elipitical (yuck) and my Biggest Loser DVD, I also need to go roll around with my foam roller for a little while :)

Had a busy on the go day today food looked like

B steel oats with 1/2 banana and ff milk

S apple

L Barley/mushroom veg soup, grapple

S orange

S 16oz skinny latte

D more barley soup :) can you tell I am liking it! Western bagel with laughing cow cheese

Whooohooo I have all my boxes checked today, oil was in the soup, all the veg in, milk servings, water, oh but I lied, I have yet to take the vitamin, I have so many isues with taking the vitamin!

I went 1/2 on an order of the PB2 peanut butter with my running buddy so I have 2 jars in the house has anyone used this powdered stuff before and if so what do you do with it? I am thinking of putting some in my oatmeal tomorrow.

Beach bum I saw your menu posted in last weeks thread, looks pretty good but it may be low on the milk/dairy, should be getting at least 2 full servings a day, runners, especially women runners need strong bones so I like to aim for at least 3 especially as I am not good at taking in my nutrients in the pill form ! Make sure you get some good oil in everyday too, normally use olive oil and vinegar on my salads or if I get a subway I get them to put some on,

Happy we are short people united! I wish I was taller sometimes, LOL I could have made goal 30lbs ago if I was taller :)

Acnc100 the C25K is still free, they are charging for some kind of extra online support or something but you do not have to sign up for that, let us know if you need help finding the free version

NHmommy {{{hugs}}} come here and rant, cry, complain anytime, we know how it sucks whan our bodies will not cooperate!

Pluggin I loved your report and I send hugs for the suffering you had to put up with after your effort. Do you only get the issue after the run? I have heard of people who have to make real quick detours during a race but never anyone who is just affected after the fact, it sounds like you just suffer after, it is strange, someone somewhere has to have an answer for you, just know you are not alone, I saw the huge thread on the subject in the med tent a while back, it is easy to say but try not to stress, stress in itself can turn our bellys into knots.

Mel you will be where you want to be on the scale when you get your fall jeans :) Crazy to me that you don't have to buy them till later in the year jeans are year round up here. I have been looking at the Panama City weather online, it sure is different to yours! I have no clue what the heck to pack for my visit :)

I am going to have to keep an eye out for that TV show! That is awesome, they must be vey excited!

K my work out is calling, catch you all tomorrow

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Jan 28-Feb3

Bodacious, I will add more dairy! That is something I've not been meeting. Had sugar free cocoa last night with cup of LF milk for the antioxidants the cocoa provides. :-) I do use olive oil in my daily salads. LOVE olive oil. And I take Omega 3 and fish oil at bedtime. Helps lubricate the joints for running!

You all mention latte's - I'm a coffee lover, what's in that? Thank you! You guys are so motivational!

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Jan 28-Feb3

Morning All,

Blamax, Kikchick. Laura911 - welcome!

Michelle - so glad you checked in. I have been thinking of you and wondering how you are. So sorry to hear why you had to abruptly cut your mileage. I hope that issue clears up and you get your 3 good tests in soon. Healing vibes your way!! Surprising that they want to take out your daughters adenoids now and not when doing the tonsillectomy. Those usually go hand in hand if there is any thought they might need to come out. Children's in Boston though is top notch so they must have had their reasons. It is good for you to be reluctant and your daughter's advocate. Interesting cases are just that to doctors sometimes - interesting. I go the workout club in Londonderry. I have been a member for 15 years - amazing. They have the childcare and pool and I just love the place. Childcare is huge and they have such nice programs that my son would call his school because it was structured and the same children would go certain days each week. I'm sure Derry uses the same program. Yes, it was the Boston Prep and I am so glad I did it. If you get the opportunity to run this race you should just to say you did it!

Redfoxfan - wow and welcome - congratulations on your weight loss AND your running! It amazes me when people turn their lives around like you have. I think some of us may have to turn to you for advice at least on the weigh loss front! Did you lose the weight following WW? How long did it take? Are you at your goal now or do you have more to lose? Inquiring minds.

Brandy - that is so cool that your Mom and little brother are doing that. How exciting. I will make sure I tivo it so I can check both of them out. Make sure to remind us as the date gets closer so we don't forget, ok?? Are you excited about the half coming up? I was pretty nervous before my half but really just enjoyed the whole experience. I can't wait to hear how it goes. So does the winner get a Mercedes?? LOL - I am assuming that this is the name of the town it is run in?

Shannon - we will pick you up if you have fallen off! Its easy to get back on just get out the journal and start counting those points. I have such a hard time when I a, so busy too. The normal home routine will def. help get you back on track.

Cherbear - good luck at WI. WI when you know your up can be hard but it is inevitably followed by a loss the following week as motivation from the scale returns! Good luck - my WI is Friday and I haven't weighed myself since the last WI - which for me is usually a bad thing. Let us know how you do.

Bo - fortunately for me I only have issues afterwards and it is usually 30 - 60 minutes after I stop running. I posted on the Hal board and Hal himself answered saying that I have eliminated the usual culprits and a trip to a GI specialist might be in order. That's kinda my thought after Sunday. I have stomach acid issues that I take medication daily for (GERD) and I have been on Aleve since September which I know can irritate the stomach. I haven't had an upper scope in 4 years and a lower in 2. (This long run issue started back in June though when my long run hit 6 miles, long before I started taking Aleve). This is more intestinal so I haven't been thinking that they are connected but of course everything ultimately connects at some point. This weekend I am going to not take the Aleve (which someone on the Hal board says bothers them a lot after their runs) and see if THAT makes a difference. How is your eye doing??

Happy - during the run I did use 3 Gu and had sips of plain water. I have tried long runs with and without Gu and it didn't make a difference either way. By mile 7 I decided I needed the Gu. I think I will buy only the non-caffeine flavors though. I like the chocolate but I am also wondering if certain Gu flavors are ok for me and some are not. It won't be a good experiment if one week I have Strawberry Gu and I'm fine and another I have Chocolate and I am not. I have also decided to keep a complete food/drink/vitamin/medication journal starting on Fridays before my long run to see if I can find a culprit. OK - the bus guy was weird. That would have creeped me way out having a stranger start talking about how he wants to be more fit in bed - wow.

Today I have 5-7 on the chart. Not sure yet what I am going to do. My stomach still has a residual yucky feeling so I will play it by ear. I will report back tomorrow.

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Jan 28-Feb3

I set my alarm to go run this morning, and when it went off I totally forgot about it and turned it off! I can't believe I did that! First I miss the run on Saturday and now this. My brain must be trying to sabatoge me right before the race. I'm going to a spin class tonight to try to make up for it. My cubemate next door at work left yesterday sick and then called to tell us she had strep throat, so I really hope I don't get it. That is not what I need less than two weeks before a race...

Shannon - It's hard for me to stay on track when I'm out of town too! Good luck with getting back on track this week.

Happy - Yeah the race has come up fast. I'm sure the one I'm running in April will be here in no time! I've never tapered for a race before, so this is a new experience. I know it's what you're supposed to do, but I can't really wrap my mind around it yet.

stillplugginaway - I will definitely let you all know! I'm sure I'll be spamming all of my friends in real life and online to make sure that they vote for them! And they do give away a Mercedes M-Class at the race (at least I think they've done that in the past). Mercedes built a plant here in Alabama around 10 years ago and since then they've been putting on a marathon. It's notorious for it's hills, which makes me wonder why I'm so crazy, doing this for my first half. I think after this, any marathon I do will be out of town (I live here).

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Jan 28-Feb3

Stillplugginaway - I lost all of my weight on WW. I am not at goal. To reach the high end of the range, I need to lose about 15 more pounds. It has taken me 15 months to lose 125.2 pounds but the last 3 months have been slow going. I have a new trend - up 2 or 3 weeks in a row and then down more than I was up. I will turn 50 this week and I am in better shape than I have ever been.

The running is really a shock to me. I always thought that people that liked to run were from a different species. I am excited to be on the verge of considering myself one of them.

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Jan 28-Feb3
hi everyone... well another forced DOR here & I'm feeling like "blah" - I miss running :( I also know that I can not run yet because my body has not recovered from this chest virus, I am still coughing deep in my chest. today is my last day for antibiotics and if I'm not better by Thursday, I will make another doctor's appt. to see what can be done. I'm just tired of doing nothing. my lower back is starting to ache from lack of exercise just like it did before I started working out & running. sorry to complain, just feeling a bit down about still being sick.

acnc100 - congrats on your 50 lb weight loss!! the c25k plan is still available free online - click this link http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

Colleen - wow! you are GREAT! I loved your RR - the fact that you met your goals and you did it all with a great attitude. And you did it all in freezing cold weather with snow! as for your GI issues, I wish I could help you out. I know some people tend to have a harder time than others - at least it happened after the race & not during. again, congrats on your great race.

blamaxgun - I agree that outside running is harder but I do love it much more than the TM :)

kikchic - welcome & congrats on your 20 lb weight loss! great job on day 1! if your shins are sore, try icing them for 10-20 minutes after your run (you can also do this throughout the day). this will help bring the inflammation down & help with shin splint pain.

nhmommy - sorry to hear about your family being sick, the stomach flu is no fun! hope things go well with all your tests & you start getting better too. both of my daughters have had their adenoids removed and it has been like having new children. I am not one to recommend surgery but I can tell you from experience that both of my girls have had less illnesses after getting their adenoids out. one daughter had hers out at 18 months & the other at 5 yrs old and both have had great improvements.

redfoxfan - welcome & congrats on your 125.2 lbs - that is amazing! a 5 mile race sounds like the perfect next step. Do you follow flex or core with WW? did you lose steadily or have long plateaus? it's always amazing to me the people who lose 100+ lbs because it has to be such a long hard journey.

Brandyshea - how cool that you are close to Vestavia Hills. Do you mind telling me the name of your running group? I'd like to give my sister the info & option to try it out - she's feeling a little lonely without all her family & friends. how cool that your brother & mom are doing the dance show! I can't wait to watch it :) I just realized that the HM you are doing was one my BIL asked if I wanted to come & run with my sis. I had to say no for a variety of reasons but that would have been cool if I had come for that race & met you there!

shannon - loved how you wrote about being dragged behind the wagon, I've been there before! you can do this, get back OP and don't worry about the past.

laura - great job on finishing week 1! don't worry about one day being harder than another... that'll happen your whole running career. It still kills me when I can barely get through a 3 mile run but on another day I can do 8 miles with no problems.

cherbear - how did WI go?

Bodacious - another shorty here... just barely 5'3" :p

Happy - LMAO, I can just see your face now as this guy is discussing his naked body with you! too funny! Good for you to count your hersey kisses points... it's ok to eat them as long as you count them :)

have a great day, Melanie

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Jan 28-Feb3

GatorGirl71 - I was glad to see you telling Laura about one day being harder than another. I often find myself wondering. "Why is it so hard today?"

I have always followed flex. Core scares me. I really don't think I can be a judge of when I am comfortably full. I really never had a plateau except for the crazy up, up, down that my body is doing now. I contribute the lack of a plateau to me bumping up the exercise whenever I thought my weight was stagnating.

This past Sunday, I binged. I couldn't get satisfied. I used up the whole days worth of points plus my weekly points. So, now I am very strictly on plan. Lunch today is WW Chili recipe - 2 pts and I love it!

I had a podiatrist appointment because I thought I had a bunion. It turns out, I have arthritis in the joint. My podiatrist is a runner (marathon, I think) and she recommended I get Asics or Saucony running shoes. I bought the Asics Kayano 14s. They are wonderful. There was zero break-in time and my feet don't ache. I have some different muscles that are sore due to running differently than I did in my old shoes but that is probably a good thing - apparently these muscles weren't being used and are now.

Hi Happy!

I got it wrong. I am signed up for the Arizona Distance Classic HM. The AZ Desert Classic is this weekend!

Yikes! That is MORE that enough in the Valley area for this weekend - SuperBowl, FBR Open (aka Phoenix Open), and a marathon.

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Jan 28-Feb3

Evening,

I did get my 5 in today but boy it was one of those runs I had to talk myself through! Tummy wasn't enjoying all the jouncing around so I was def. ready to throw in the towel and use that as my excuse but I stuck it out and I am glad. I kept telling myself if you don't get these miles in today you will have to do them tomorrow! LOL I am going to run my low end of the mileage during the week and then high end on Saturday.

Red - I love my Asics Kayano 14's. Just got them a week ago but have worn the 2007 and the 2006 model of the same shoe. Good shoes and/or the right shoes for how you run is sooo important. I think I am going to have one of those can't get satisfied evenings.

Will check back later. Colleen

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Jan 28-Feb3

Hi all. Today was ok. I did run a 3.5 which felt really great, and then I did some weights. I took a day off WW and I have to say it felt really good to eat what I felt like eating. My daughter asked if we could go to the "Apple Restaurant" aka Applebee's. I normally don't really like it there, but she never asks to go anywhere, so I wanted to take her. Before we went I figured I would just get some WW meal and be fine with it. When I got there I said screw it and had a burger, with fries. It was the first time since last April I had either a burger (with the fixins) and french fries. I am trying not to feel guilty about it. It was SOOOOSOOOO good. Back on plan tomorrow! But for today - YUM. Tessa (my youngest daughter, with DS) will have to have her surgery postponed. After I gave the ok to go ahead they decided she needed to have another complete cardiac workup before they will go ahead with it. She does have some "normal" down syndrome cardiac issues, but nothing that has required surgery or medications, so that should be an easy visit. We are now waiting for her cardiologist to call back to schedule the workup. Its always something!!! Love that kid though, she is awesome.

Redsoxfan: I must have missed your story last week, but WOW, you are truely an inspiration with all of your weight loss and now running. Congrats to you, what a wonderful achievement. I hope you kno wwhat a wonderful gift you have given your self. Listen to me, I should be a meeting leader! :)

Bodacious: Thanks for the messages. It was nice to see you on myspace, drop by any time! Also, I have taken your lead and started eating the Steel oats for breakfast. I have found them most bland and wonder if you eat them plain, or if you add stuff to them to make it more exciting. I have added sugar free smuckers jelly and once diced 1/2 apple. Any other suggestions? I am also using the Quaker Steel Oats - they are new, what brand do you like best, or are they all the same?

Colleen: The Workout Club in Derry is like 1 mile from my house, so it just makes sense to go there. I love the treadmill with the tv in it. You must love those quiet treadmills with Ellen! Love it. How old are your kids? I wonder if they are young enough to know my niece and nephew.....

Has anyone seen or heard from Dan? I think we are all starting to worry... yes?

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Jan 28-Feb3
It's me again :)

Have to tell you I ran my fastest 3 miles ever today, K all you quick people don't laugh! I did it in 29,57 and the best thing is I had nil, nada, no problems from my IT which was awesome because in the past when I have tried to get under 10.30 it would act up. I ran it on the indoor track, a lot of air force guys and gals trying to run out there at the same time LOL they must be getting ready for their yearly fitness test, I think they have to do a mile and a half, there was a lot of people struggling out there and a lot of walking, I need to run with those guys more often, they make me look good and powerful!

Happy oh my what a weird guy! I wish I could have been a fly on the wall when he came out with that comment :) I put some of the PB2 in my oatmeal this morning but I don't think I put enough in, I def have to play with it, my buddy says there are lots of ideas on the website so I will have to do a search.

Beachbum Lattes are an expensive habit to develop :) I am trying to cut back on my Starbucks latte indulgence! They are basically steamed milk (ask for skinny and that is fat free milk) with the espresso, if I don't have a starbucks I will make a big skinny coffee or hot chocolate at home. If anyone out there likes Chai Tea, Oregon Chai does a pretty good sugar free chai tea latte concentrate for 0 points, if I need a milk serving I will mix a cup of that with a cup of fat free milk for a homemade skinny chai.

Beachbum how far away from Panama City are you located? I am going there for a visit in 10 days and move there this June.

Pluggin my eye is as good as it can be at the moment and really I am kind of tired dealing with it! Have been going thru so many contact fittings over the last year and I want to take a break! I was thinking of you as I ran this afternoon, your problem is a terrible situation, its not like you can eat light and have an empty belly as you need to be fueled, you need to have energy. Have you tried changing the gu for something natural like banana pieces? I hope you get an answer, after running an awesome race you should not have to pay the price you do, you should be able to celebrate not suffer :(

Redfox I do core mostly because I like the more natural unprocessed foods it is based on, I can be a glutton so when I serve myself I always start with a flex portion, I will measure out my rice etc because if I did not my mind would think that I need a big heaping plate to satisfy me when in fact 99.9% of the time a regular portion satisifies me.

Nhmommy I make my steel oats in batches of 4 servings so 1 cup of oats to 3 water. I portion it into the little pampered chef prep dishes (I love those they are so useful!) I serve mine with 1/4 cup ff milk. I use splender too, I have that British sweet tooth, I am trying to cut back but it is baby steps! I always mix something in, often blueberries as they are a superfood but they give an interesting purple milk effect :) I love the Costco frozen berry blend mix, that is good too, this morning I had 1/2 banana and some PB2 mixed in, diced fresh apple or an apple sauce cup with cinnamon is yummy, kind of like apple pie oatmeal. A local cafe makes the very best to die for granola which must be huge in pts and I got in the habit of mixing in a few spoons of that granola into the oatmeal, it was very good but I have to quit that habit! Raisens would be very good, not core tho :( I know Happy has put cherries in hers, I have to try that! Oatmeal is another superfood and it sticks to my ribs and helps me get some fruit and dairy in so that's a good thing :)

We have not heard from Dan or Niccole in forever, I do hope alll is good with them and they just don't have time for us at the moment.

My food taday looked like:

B Steel oats, ff milk, 1/2 banana

S 1pt yogurt smoothie and apple

L Barley/mushroom/veg soup

S 16oz skinny latte

S Grapple

D western bagel with veggie burger, edename, 1 dove dark chocolate square

All my water and some extra.

Ran 3 miles, also did just under hour of weights, floor work and stretches my HRM says 492 cals used so I am off to make meself a smoothie with FF milk, frozen blueberries and some of the womans protein powder I picked up.

Have a great OP day you all and run strong :)

Morning,

I just found this picture on the race pictures page from the water stop at the race on Sunday. I think it really shows just how cold these girls were while working this stop. I am waiting to post the during the race shot of me to see if my team has a better pic. Here are the girls. My daughter is the one with green on her jacket behind the girl with the sign. What they are standing in for snow is what we ran on - good times!

Bodacious- I am 2 hours west of Pensacola, so about 3 from Panama City I guess. We go 5 or 6 times a year, love Florida and want to move there when the girls are out of school. I can't stand the thought of moving far enough away that they can't drive home any weekend and see us. They are both at college in North Ms. But we want to move to P'cola or Panama City Beach eventually.

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Jan 28-Feb3

good morning - nothing exciting to report here except that each day I am not better I am getting more depressed about it. I made myself dress nicer today, put on makeup and try to feel better about myself to lift my spirits. I am going back to the doctor this morning to see if he can give me something else to get over this illness. With not feeling good & being down I have been eating bad which just makes me feel worse, it's a vicious cycle. Today I am back OP and tracking my points - at least when I follow WW I know I feel good. sorry to be such a bummer lately but glad I can vent to all of you http://community.active.com/images/emoticons/happy.gif

redfoxfan - that is great that you have not really hit any kind of plateau, they can be so frustrating. I have done that 1 lb up/1 lb down yo-yo before & I know that it can be frustrating too, but I kept at it & finally started losing again. I think consistency is the key. I wouldn't be too hard on yourself for the binge... at least you counted your points and know how many you have left for the week, even if it's zero. would you share the WW chili recipe?

colleen - great job on sticking to the run when you felt like quitting. ok, after seeing that pic I bow down to you even more "I'm not worthy!" you kicked some serious butt in the snow at that race!

nhmommy - my oldest DD use to call Applebees "Apple Beast" and when she was old enough to read she was so mad that we never corrected her. lol we just thought it was cute. I love their Santa Fe chicken salad, I get it without dressing, sour cream or guacamole and then use their salsa for dressing - it's really good & I count it as 7 pts for a large salad. I also like a lot of their WW menu items... of course I love one of their big hamburgers & fries better though. LOL hope all goes well with the cardiac workup with your DD. do I have you on myspace? come visit my site www.myspace.com/runslikeagirl71 and add me as a friend (that invitation goes out to everyone else too!)

I'm worried about Dan too... where are you Dan?!

Bo - great job on the 3 mile fast run! we need to run a race together we run a very similar pace.

I liked this quote that I got in email today from Runners World "My feeling is that any day I am too busy to run is a day that I am too busy. " - John Bryant, deputy editor of the London Times, 1994
