Tuesday's Run!!!!

Well I lifted today at lunch and then came home and ran 8 miles. It took me just over 59 minutes. Kinda a tempo/interval run with 6 X 600 mixed in the middle. It was a great run but was stopped with just about a half mile to go. This Sherriff told me I was stupid for running down the side of the road. It had abig enough shoulder for a car and a half to pull off. After I asked him if it was against the law (which I already knew it wasn't) he told me no but it was dangerous and only an idiot would run down the side of a road and that I should find a track somewhere. I told him that wasn't the only thing that was dangerous. He looked at me kinda dumb and I said it was also dumb to be extremely overweight but I don't see stupidity holding either one of us back and took off to complete my run. He didn't follow so I must have been good to not get in trouble. How do I find these guys while running. I was and still am in a good mood but hate being called stupid and an idiot all in one fell swoop.

Jimmy

You've got balls, telling a police officer it's dangerous to be fat! Man, good thing you run fast... I bet if you were slower you'd have gotten yourself into a whole bundle of trouble by now!

Carry a few donuts in your pocket. Next time a "large" policeman comes near, just toss them behind you to distract him. (Works with dogs too!)

Re: Tuesday's Run!!!!
Well I got stopped by a cop and I wasn't in the wrong and still got a ticket. Fought it and won in court but that's how the system works. If a cop WANTS to jack you up, he will. Plain and simple. Not sure I would have used the "fat" line about danger but what the ****, you're a Marine. Go for it.

I ran 8 today with 8 x 100m strides. This is the start of my Advanced Marathoning schedule before CMM. My weekend long run was a good gauge for where I'd be this week and FINALLY this was a really good run. I set out to run the first 4 miles comfortably since this was classified as "general aerobic" (or cover the miles) kind of run so I ran it at about a 9:00 m/m pace. The 100m strides were a bit faster. :-p But it was good to break up the 8 miles with the strides. Not as fast as Jimmy but a good run nonetheless. No pain, only regular muscle aches from the workout. Good news. Lookout, NIta.. this boy is gonna leave you in my wake. (The wake may be a posthumous event rather than a calm area behind me . . but hey. . .)

The downside to the Advanced Marathoning schedule is it has me running on both Saturday and Sunday with Saturday's usually being a short recovery run and Sunday's being a long run. That's not necessarily all bad though since I'll be switching to a half/full weekend mode as I get closer to Goofy so that whatever my long distance is on Sunday, I'll run half as much as that on Saturday.

Feeling good. No cops along the way but plenty of Chris's friends (drivers who don't see runners.)

Re: Tuesday's Run!!!!

LOL!!!!

Jimmy, didn't you once have another incident with a cop and his "fatness" when he was giving you a ticket?

Has Jerseywill found this forum yet? It'll be interesting to hear a cop's perspective.

Re: Tuesday's Run!!!!
In my experience there are two kinds of cops: 1) The John Wayne complex. Give 'em a badge and a gun and they figure they can do whatever they want. 2) Men and women actually interested in serving the public and working every day to do the right thing.

I think Jimmy ran into copy persona #1.

Next time a cop stops you and asks, "Do you know why I stopped you?" respond with, "Because of a severe lack of self-esteem and not being hugged enough by your mother as a child?"

Yeah, you'll still get the ticket but you'll feel better about it.

Isn't it amazing the power some of them feel with that badge. Nasty. I don't think I would have had the guts to say quit that, but it sure as **** would have pi$$ed me off something fierce. Good for you Jimmy and a dam good run. I did 5 miles on the treadmill today at a 9:50 pace and it was not nearly as much fun as your run.

Jimmy, it's the Mom of the group. As long as you were running on the proper side of the road, I'm fine with you telling the cop off.

Re: Tuesday's Run!!!!
If a cop stops me and tells me running on the side of the road is dangerous I think I'll simply say, "I like livin' on the edge officer. Kind of like goin' for the jelly filled donut instead of the regular one. . . See ya."

I SO want this license plate but my good sense keeps me from getting it: NO DONUT. Or the license plate frame that says " Bad Cop" on the top and "NO DONUT" on the bottom. . .

And my two cents. The cop was a jerk he deserved it. Secondly, Are you wearing anything reflective while running on the side of the road in the nations fattest state??
