Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Jan 27th
Hey Friends! Well, the body was way too tired this a.m. when the alarm went off, so I shut it off & before I knew it, my other alarm was going off to wake the girls up for school! So, no running today. I started out feeling really crummy this a.m., went to work & pushed through all that & now feel much, much better - have more energy. Thanks for all of the positive thoughts and vibes! They're working. So, ditto on my message from yesterday - if the body cooperates I WILL GET UP and run in the a.m. - even made plans to meet my running partner (so maybe I would actually get up!!) - can't be too hard on myself though, I'm just impatient. After 3 full rest days, hopefully I'll be good to go in the a.m. Don't lose any sleep over all this anticipation...will she run??...or won't she???...it's a teaser for a great reality TV show!! Just kidding. Anyway, I'll give you guys a progress report tomorrow!

SPICEGEEK - thanks for asking about me - you're so kind!! So, the gym was good (but not perfect, eh? no chatting with EC#1 or #2? what IS a girl to do???) Wanna hear more about the Women's mini - what/where is that 10K? sounds like a cool concept!

JOE - How was your run today? We will plan to meet MARILYN for sure in March @ run. If either of you guys have run this particular race before, I'll let you say where to meet...oh, and sorry for making a big deal about the t-shirt/tech shirt thing - didn't know you guys didn't get those - I'm sure both are nice! I've just not had that option before & thought it was cool. Got a postcard in the mail about the "Sprint for Life" in May - in TMC (med center)/a 5K - I usually run that one - it's for ovarian cancer & I teach/practice Women's Health (OB/GYN), so it's a cause I can get fired up about! Wanna join me anyone? MARILYN? PEG? JOE? STUNATA? ANYONE ELSE IN HOUSTON AREA???

CHUCK - very, very cool that you can train on/near your HM course! WOW! you've almost earned your t-shirt - bravo!

MACD - definitely, go for the foam roller! can help the hamstrings too...

KEVIN - what day next week is your b'day? Happy early b'day. Hey, 54 is young & men usually "age gracefully," don't they? I was so shocked to hear this a.m. on the radio that Tom Selleck was 63 today - OMG, he's still got it! (used to have a huge crush on him when he played in Magnum P.I. - must've been back in the 80's - anyone else remember that show?) Thanks also for the encouragement/advice about "not fighting our bodies," you are absolutely right. Just hard to see past the "now" sometimes - to look past short-term plans/goals further down the road to appreciate the significance of long-term goals...a life lesson.

MARILYN - you look fantastic - very happy at the HM! are those your 2 DDs with you in the 1st picture - they are adorable! Good work! You should be VERY proud of yourself!

CARA - glad you are enjoying the new shoes - that's great motivation, actually! I downloaded some new songs onto my iPod last night, thinking that would be some good motivation to get up and run/listen to the new music, etc...nope! Sleep was better! TOMORROW is the day...I'll let you know! Impressive run at LUNCHTIME! Wow - how do you do that?!?

MISSWENDY - out-of-town? where are you?? hope DD is better soon - perhaps back to school in the a.m.? OH NO - hate to hear that your log is gone - have you emailed the tech people? i better check my log too...UGGH!

RUNJR - dude, you are seriously fast! great running - hope you can get back outside soon! BRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Going to do the dishes, make lunches & fall into bed! --Laurel

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Jan 27th

Calling all the LADIES !

For those of you who have asked about the NYRR Womens mini it will be held on June 7th this year. NYRR races are about $20 to enter depending on when you register and if you are a member - so that will not break the bank. The course is basically a loop of Central Park - which is a little hilly. You get a t-shirt, medal and if you are really fast a rose. !

Here is a history of the race

http://www.nyrr.org/races/2007/mini/history.asp

I only have a small place so I can not offer to board anyone for the weekend but if the idea of running the 10K and having a weekend in NYC appeals I`d be happy to help people find a decent hotel the race is very central so you could stay in the middle of NYC and not have any problems geting to the start / finish. It was the race I enjoyed the most last year because there were a lot of supporters and it had a cool history.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Jan 27th
hi all, it is -5 and wind chills around -30 this AM. I will not run outside today. Today will be in the gym. This only lasts a few days and we will be back to normal.

chuck - I'm glad you are enjoying the group running. That pace you ran at was my favorite. I think I'm best around that 9 mm. I really got to concentrate on the speed work. I log 40-50 miles per week but I don't speed work too much. Have you or are you doing speed work?

laurel - I got to know....did you get your run in?? I think we may have the makings of a new reality show.

kevee - you didn't run outside today did you???

spicegeek - That race sounds like my DD and DW would enjoy.

joe - get your run in today. I know about the long work hours, it seems like I can't get all my work done. But, it is better to be busy than not.

take care all.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Jan 27th

Morning everyone! Lunchtime here so an opportunity to post! Nothing new to say for me - still got my 5 planned for tonight!

Runjr - 7:50 mile! you are my idol! Great 5.1 run Not sure I could afford a pair of new shoes a month at £85 a pair (about $170). Yes they are the Triumph 5 - the woman in the shop said they should be good for 600 miles!

Chuck - glad that group running is working out for you! Sounds like you'll have your shirt in no time!

Laurel - hope you're feeling better today! You've got the right attitude... when I had a cold over xmas I ended up having a week off running through just feeling run down. Better than injury and making illness worse! so... having said that... did you get the run in today? The suspense... ;) Oh - and my lunchtime run only happened as I was working from home ;)

Spicegeek - that 10K sounds great, but a little far for me to travel! I think i've just found my next race though... Bluebell 10K trail run - it goes through woodlands near Worthing that are covered in bluebells... April 27th - just got to check the diary!

Joe - it's a pain when work gets in the way of runs and time to post on this forum! Hope you get some free time for that run tonight!

Happy Running,

Cara

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Jan 27th

G'mornin' all! Cold here today too but not quite as bad as WI, 5F/-15WC. My DH parks outside and had to pry his car open. I hope it doesn't last long!

Marilyn, thanks for posting the pics, they're great! All you have accomplished is awesome--congrats again!

spicegeek, thanks for the race info and link to the mini. That sounds like a lot of fun--I love Central Park. I don't know about the date--we have a big software project going live 7/1--but I'll keep it in mind. Good job on your run!

Kevin, 55 last October, so I've got you beat by a bit in that category. Have a happy bd next week!

Joe, hope you get your run in today... and you too Laurel ;)

Cara, your HM course sounds challenging, but it sounds like you're used to running in the wind. You're doing great!

Biking for me today, got in 7 mi and 15 min of ab work... which I should have started earlier, so I could have had some clothes on when the woman who cleans every other week arrived...NOT a pretty sight (not that she saw me). Happy Wednesday everyone!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Jan 27th

Cara - I don't really want to gloat, but I do want to scream from the rooftops that it really is possible for normal, everyday people to lose weight and get fit. Great job on getting that run in during lunch! So glad that Silverstone got you to sign up for the HM and this group. Otherwise we wouldn't have gotten to know you. :-)

Spicegeek - Thanks! And congratulations to you on your own weight loss. I only wish I had decided to do something about my weight before I had so much to lose. I still do a double-take sometimes when I see myself in the mirror or see a picture of myself. Yes, those are my daughters. They are such a joy. We adopted them both in China when they were infants - probably two of the best things we have ever done.

runjr - Wow! You are super speedy. If I could run 5 miles in 40+ minutes I might consider training for a marathon.

Laurel - hope you made it out this morning. I would definitely consider doing the 5K in May. Do they have a website up? Can you register now? I like to commit myself to races early, so it forces me to keep up with my training. I definitely want to do several 5K's and 10K's before summer sets in. I'll probably get going on HM training again in July or August for the San Antonion Half in November.

misswendy - sounds like a fun weekend planned - hope DD is feeling better. I have a good friend who did the Chicago Marathon in 2005. She raved about it. Hopefully they won't have the problems they had in 2007 ever again. It's usually not that hot in Chicago in October.

Joe - yes, I'm already signed up for the Rodeo Run 5K. I guess I need to add it to the calendar. I want to do the Bayou City Classic as well, but my mom needs to come that weekend for me to work on her taxes. I don't think she'll come if she knows I'm doing a race and that's the only weekend our schedules mesh between now and April 15. If I end up deciding to run that one, I'll let you know.

Today was a strength training day for me. Tomorrow, I'll be doing a tempo run with my new friends from Champions Fit unless it rains.

Marilyn

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Jan 27th

Hello all. Sorry it has been a while for me. I miss you guys. I have just been crazy at work.

I am going to do the Rodeo one. I need to sign up. I will ask family what they are wanting to do tonight and either way, I am signing up.

Love the pics! WOW, you should be proud. Feel free to gloat about that anytime. You deserve it!

Don't have but a minute so I better get going. I will try and get on tonight.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Jan 27th
Hey all... got 5.13 in tonight injust under 53 mins so good run. I'm pretty tired with all the running at the moment though so looking forward to a rest day tomorrow (actually i'm going climbing - does that count as strength training???) Will have to get my run in Friday morning, but it's only 3 so should be ok.

MacD - Hope that weather is picking up! Hey - maybe you're the cleaners

MissWendy - hope you had a great date and afters ;) I reakon you'll do the HM under a 10mm the way you're going! Kitchen not yet fitted so no sink under cupboards but revised plans look much better now. Work starting 3rd March so watch this space! Oh - and as for the marathon... i'm sure you could do it if you want to... I'd like to do one sometime but not sure I can commit enough hours to the training!

Marilyn - I'm glad Silverstone brought me here too as you guys are great motivation. Actually it was Monnik that sent me to you guys too - she said she was going to do a 20K and I suddenly go thinking maybe I could do it too... shame she's drifted off... MONNIK - if you're lurking - come back! Good on you for getting straight back into the running! Are you sore this week?

Peg - sorry work's getting in the way! Hope you're still managing to get some running in there!

Joe - Hope you got out for that run! I did my 5, so now it's your turn ;)

Happy running all! I'm off to bed!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Jan 27th
runjr, I don't do speed work at the time but my son wants me to. I'm going to start running more times a week. Currently I only run 3 times, but I want to run 5. 1 day of speed work. I've been wanting to get my times back down but need to finish my HM first. It's very agrivating to watch people you use to blow by blow by you. It's suppose to be low 30's now for the start of the race, I just hope the wind dies down by then . We have had terrible winds. 50 mph last night 30's today. I'm so wind blown today!
