Re: FINISHERS... Week 4 (C25K)

Good morning everyone!  Congrats AudsMom on completing your run on the TM today!  I do mine first thing too, the ONLY way it would get done as I'm a procrastinator.  I will try both your suggestions on breathing, as the sucking air I'm doing is embarrassing at times.   But since its a matter of feeling like I can't get enough in to keep going, I'll start with the idea of some complete exhales to get all the carbon dioxide out- I used that years ago to get rid of side stitches, that carbon seems to cause side stitches also.  Those of you with that complaint also try this- two or three forceful exhales to empty your lungs completely of air every 4th breath or so.  I will give both a shot tomorrow am on my W4D3 run.  I'm not sure weather I'll do TM or track.  My nose is too stuffy to only breathe in through my nose.  I'd never get enough, I'd fall out.  I must have allergies when I get out on the track.  And yes, the outdoors is harder.  I'm going to try to run outdoors once a week just to keep up so that when I do want to run a 5K it won't be impossible for me to jump in on one.  And there is nothing like beathing fresh air while you work out and seeing the sunrise/sunset/beautiful sky while you're out there!

You all are doing so great!  Everyone's posts are so inspirational, it makes you want to do your next run and run to the computer and post your experience!  Those of you who quit smoking- you're amazing.  Those of you pushing baby strollers- ditto!  Wow.  This group has HEART.  We're gonna finish and finish BIG!

Re: FINISHERS... Week 4 (C25K)

Hi,

This is my 1st post as i have been "stalking" this thread for a couple of weeks. I have started C25K many times and this is the longest I have stayed on it and I think it's because of everyone on here and the encouragement. I was leary about posting because I have fallen off the wagon so many times, but I think this time will be it. It is so nice to hear eveyone going through the same emotions as me. Last night I completed W4D1. That was the longest I have ever jogged in my life! It was a struggle, but I did it. I hope you don't mind me joining your thread. I would love to complete this program with you. Thank you.

Re: FINISHERS... Week 4 (C25K)

Welcome to all our new 'finishers'!!! Everyone is doing great, keep it up!! I will do day 2 of week 4 tonight. Day 1 was tough but I was determined not to stop and so proud that I did it. That is THE best feeling of all. Remember to stretch before you run, it makes all the difference! Keep up with your water intake too!!! Can you believe we're in week FOUR?????

Re: FINISHERS... Week 4 (C25K)

Hey everyone, I just wanted to let you know that I did w4d1 today and it was tough but I kept telling myself that I have to keep going in order to keep up with my team.  I don't know why but 5 min seemed like usch a long time.  I must admit though that I feel good and to know that I ran for a total of 16 mins make me feel even better.

Go Finishers!!!

Re: FINISHERS... Week 4 (C25K)

did w4d1 this morning and it was a struggle.  my  calves started talking to me after the first run interval.  and i really wanted to get off the treadmill after 1st 5 min run. plus my mp3 wasn't working, GRRR.    but i did it, whooo hoo!  we are all doing it, one workout at a time.  feels good.     reading everyone's posts is so motivating,  and i really need the accountability.

someone asked about the transition from treadmill to outside jogging?   i did a different running program last year and found it difficult to switch.  breathing outside was harder for me and sometimes i could tell the difference with impact.  but after a few outdoor runs, i hated to get on the treadmill because it seemed so boring.  i think i did slow down a bit once off the treadmill but i felt i could push myself to run longer and enjoyed it more.     i'm ready to do some outside jogs too....i'm in colorado and it's been pretty nice.  just need to force myself out of bed to run early before my husband goes to work.

Re: FINISHERS... Week 4 (C25K)

Day 2 tomorrow for me & I'm NOT looking forward to it. Sick cat, sick kid, slept poorly last night &must have slept with every muscle in my body tense. Then I had a real rush of **** to the brain & spent today doing taxes for my hubbie & I. So to my litany of woes, add a screaming headache. I have to do a late evening volunteer stint & it's the last thing I want to do tonight. Yes, I'm mired in the 'deep down & uglies' today. Maybe tomorrow's session will clear my body & head of the evil cobwebs.

I tell you, if it wasn't for you folks, I don't know if I'd be heading out tomorrow. So glad you're all here...

Okay, SlogOn you have been there for all of us to lift us up when we needed it.  Now it's our turn to lift YOU up!!  You can soooo do the run tomorrow and it is going to definitely clear your mind and give you energy.    As we've already learned with our running it's a natural stress reliever.   Try and get better sleep tonight.  And even if you don't feel like it tomorrow, lace up those shoes and head out......you'll thank yourself when you get home!!  Just take it slow and easy.  You're a Finisher.

Re: FINISHERS... Week 4 (C25K)

Sara- welcome !  Glad you posted!  We're here with you, this week is the longest I've ever run in my life as well.  I've been focussed all week on the fact that I RAN 16 MINUTES! Yeah!  Its wonderful to know we did it together.

Slogon- you've had a crappy day for sure, but tomorrow is a brand new beginning, and you'll feel better after your run.  You are so good at lifting us all up to the challenge, remember its 90 % mental.  You can do it.  I know you may not want to do it, but we are all with you and think of our group behind you running along with you.  Post when you FINISH!

Re: FINISHERS... Week 4 (C25K)

Alright, so I owe all of you all a big old thank you.  When I planned out my week I figured that today would be one of my running days and I would go running right after work, well after pulling a nearly 10 hour work day the last thing I wanted to do when I got home was go running.  I was doing a great job of thinking of reasons why I shouldn't go... I was tired, it's cold, it's getting dark, I didn't get a good sleep last night etc...  Then I came on here and read everyone's postings.   Person after person was talking about completing there runs despite sick kids, sore shins and sub freezing temperatures.  And I thought "self get your whiny self out there and run"  and so I did.  and it felt pretty **** good.  I had a realization  while running too  - not counting warm up/ cool down this week are running for 16 minutes and only walking for 8.  That means I ran for twice as long as I walked today - and that is pretty freaking cool.  keep it up guys, we're all doing awesome!

Re: FINISHERS... Week 4 (C25K)

Been following a bit here and there-- I'm in Week 4 also!

This one's been really hard for me.  I ran Sunday and couldn't finish the last 5 min jog-- only did two minutes.  I should have walked a minute, then completed but ugh-- no way.  Monday, I did this: in the last 5 minute run, I gave myself a 60 second walking break and did finish.  Yesterday (Tuesday) was the first day I got through the whole thing and man it felt great.  I got new workout music-- Podrunner's podcast, available on iTunes.  I tried using the other one that's loved here but the music wasn't fast enough for me and I'm able to keep track of my time as I'm on a treadmill.  So I'll be going again today and then taking a break until Monday where I hope I can do it again!

(I know, my schedule's wonky, but it's because I'm in a long-distanceish relationship and we share weekends and there's no treadmill or gym for me at my boyfriend's house!)

Seeing you all makes me motivated.  Keep going!!

Re: FINISHERS... Week 4 (C25K)

I am so embarassed...I couldn't do it last night. My lungs are not yet recovered from my chest cold. I've gotten bronchitis and walking pneumonia before so I was afraid to run in the sleet last night. My husband and I made the joint decision to put off Day 2 until tonight. I'm so dissapointed I could cry. It doesn't throw me off schedule since I can still complete Day 3 on Friday, but I just can't help feeling like I let myself down. Slogon I'm right there with you in the doldrums today. However, you and me are gonna kick those blues RIGHT IN THE SHIN today! I'm rooting for ya! Go SLOGON! You can do it!  I'll be wheezing through my run tonight but I'll be thinking of you all and darned if I'm gonna let anything come between me and my sneaks tonight!
