Re: FINISHERS... Week 4 (C25K)
Finished W4D3 today! I did indoors on the TM and its definitely the difference. I ran almost the whole track in 3 min outdoors, gasping, and 3 minutes inside on TM was just over half a lap. So I push harder outside for some reason. I thought I was going same speed. No gasping today. But I also ran flat, no incline. All of you running sick are so inspiring- the dedication is excellent! Hope you all get feeling better quickly. Slogon- we're with you!

Re: FINISHERS... Week 4 (C25K)

You guys are such a great bunch. Trucking right along & we're all within days of finishing week four. 'Who'd a thunk it?' - LOL. I woke up this morning to the sound of wind slamming my building around. We have a flash freeze warning & trust me, it's freezing solid as I speak, a wind warning & blowing snow warning. I am NOT going out in that! The winds are 36 gusting to 45 mph right now & increasing. Now when I start serious prep for my first 5K race, I will definitely train in all conditions. After all race day weather is what it is & you never know what you'll get.

BUT - right now, stuff is flying down the street - garbage bins, recyclig boxes, small branches... anything loose. I'm generally an afternoon runner... my body seems to function best for exercise between 1100 & 1600. I am NOT going out in THAT. I could end up running in place - LOL. If the wind dies down later, I most definitely will head out. Cold is fine & snow is fine. If not, I'll reverse my sessions & do my weights today & D2 tomorrow, then D3 on Saturday. With W5D1 not being a big jump in run time, that should work.

I still feel guilty for even thinking of postponing though. Hope I do get the run in later but right now, we're already being warned of possible power failures so it must be getting even wilder. Days like this, I wish I had a treadmill. Luckily, we don't get too many days like this here.

heh-heh. My lungs may be in shreds, but my dignity is intact! Woohoo! I mean---Wooo-cough-cough-hack-hack-hoo! :) finished Week 4 Day 2. I barely made it, but it is now behind. Thanks for the moral support! Gonna go eat dinner and then it's on to ballroom dancing. Last run of the week is scheduled for Friday. Thanks for making me want to keep doing this ladies and gentlemen. You are the reason I'm going to look so dang good when I'm "down the Jersey shore" this summer.

Re: FINISHERS... Week 4 (C25K)

Well, I'm not going to lie, I thought about quitting. Heck- I almost didn't even start! I was so tired and kinda stressed out today and I thought about rescheduling my run, but no, I did it. W4D2 finished. Wow. It was a struggle. My legs felt like lead! And the battle with my brain was fierce, but I did it. Thats what I keep telling myself, I did it. ANd again- thank you because I thought about all of you with every other step. I did this for me and for all of you, after all, we're a team right?!

Hang in there everyone else having a tough week! We can do this!

Re: FINISHERS... Week 4 (C25K)
Hello Finishers - I just discovered this forum. I am at the end of week 4 of the C25K and was wondering if I could join your group. I'm training to run one leg of a marathon relay in Fargo, ND in May. Having never really run before, my runner-husband suggested the program. So far, it's going well - I'm actually looking forward to excercising instead of dreading it. Right now I'm trying to get myself psyched up for Week 5.

Re: FINISHERS... Week 4 (C25K)

Hi MominMN!! Happy to have you on our team! How far is the leg you are running? There is a run in May that has a team that is running in my son's honor in Santa Cruz, California. That would be my ultimate dream to be able to run one of the legs one year. His team is SUPER competitive and they are in it to win it and they have some really amazing runners.....but who knows....maybe one day!! I never thought I could run for 5 mins and now I'm doing it!

W4D2 done! Yeah! The first part seemed to go pretty good, but the last 5 min run.....oh nellie!! For any of you that use the podcast, you know when he says "okay you have 1 more min"....how many of you think he's going to say "okay you are all done!"...?? Well, both time I thought he was going to say that and that last minute seemed to drag on for 5 min!!! I swear my legs and feet were dragging, but team I was still running!! I did make that quick turn into the park again though....sucking air again on that last 5 min run. But that's okay. I was looking at W5D3....I don't want to sound negative and I probably shouldn't even being saying this or thinking it, but dang 20 min straight!! WOW!! Really, we have been so shocked at what our bodies have done so far maybe it really is possible!!! I guess we'll see!

Well on to W4D3, but not until Saturday. I'll keep checking on our team and make sure everyone is hanging on for this wild ride!

Re: FINISHERS... Week 4 (C25K)

Well finishers...it sounds like week four must be the hump we must get over. A lot of us seemed to struggle this week...but we perservered!...and we're doing it! ...and now that we're over this hump, I know we will push on to the end. I know we will still have our struggles from time to time, especially when life throws things in our way...but we have proved to ourselves and the rest of us what we're made of...and it says a lot about our commitment to this program, to our goals...and to this group. After reading all your posts, I am very proud to be a part of this group.

I finished W4D2 yesterday, and it went a lot better than Monday. It's been a busy week at work, so it has been a chore getting up in the morning to run...but I always feel better during the day after I run. (you would think it would be the opposite...lol) and knowing I have you all to report to, is a great accountability tool.

Keep it up everyone!

-Eric

*****I was able to move to the next notch on my belt. (without sucking in...lol) It isn't much, but it sure makes me feel good! When I started C25K I was 225lbs. I'm down to 212!!!

Re: FINISHERS... Week 4 (C25K)

Welcome MomInMN. Glad to have you with us. We've got a sizeable group going here & everyone seems to be going strong. I as feeling badly last night because I hadn't done yesterday's scheduled WD2. Ah, the power of peer pressure... flash freeze, winds strong enough to blow you off your feet; just generally insane running conditions so I decided to wait until today. And in spite of all this reason & logic I STILL felt guilty not running. I'll fel guilty until I get that session done a little later today.

Just as well actually, I dcided to go Thursday/Saturday this week rather than my normal Wednesday/Friday. Not only was yesterday abysmal but we have a winter storm watch on for tomorrow with heavy snow beginning tonight after midnight. Saturday will be sunny & clear. So... running today & Saturday is the sensible thing to do.

Right now, I'm more concerned about NEXT week's runs. I have to stop looking at those because they're scary. Especially that 20 minutes one...gulp! LOL

Re: FINISHERS... Week 4 (C25K)

Hello Finishers!!

It looks like everyone is kicking butt! I wasn't able to do my day2 run last night. I have been having issues with my knee. I went to the Dr this morning and he said it is a sprained knee? I have never heard of that before- but the good news is he wrote me a script for 800mg of Advil and physical therapy. My 1st visit is Wednesday and I'm excited to go and fix my knee problem. Plus my Dr said they might be able to hook me up with personal training and It's all covered under insurance. Sweet. But since he gave me meds, I will do day2 tonight.

Good job Eric on the weight loss!

Re: FINISHERS... Week 4 (C25K)

Finished wd2! It wasn't as tough as d1 but those last five minutes were a struggle.

Welcome to all of the new members. We have a great supportive team here.

Drew- you are so dedicated to work 16 hrs and still complete your run. What motivation you are.

Irish- congratulations on the weight loss. I think that I've lost about 10 pounds since new years day but it doesn't feel or look like it to me. I guess I'm waiting on that big Wow!

I am proud of myslef though, just for making it htis far and for the record it has been 1 month of c25k and cycling.

Re: FINISHERS... Week 4 (C25K)

sml - please be very careful with that knee. I'd recommend at the very least, taking a 10 minute initial walk & if your knee starts giving you any serious grief... STOP! Far better to miss a few days & end up a half week or so behind than to push through & have to start over. The other thing you might try is wrapping your knee & a good 6" below & above it in a large Tensor for added support. It may make for awkward jogging but avoiding further injury is the aim.

dimplz - 10 pounds in a month is a great start. YOU may not see it but I bet you people around you can. You're probably finding it a bit easier to move around & I'll bet your clothing is a bit looser now if you're not already a size smaller. If you're not - that will come very soon. You're really an inspiration with the spin classes & extra work you're doing on top of the program.

Re: FINISHERS... Week 4 (C25K)

Okay, what is it about week four? We're not doing significantly longer distances or times. I even cut down my 'extra' fitness activities this week for fear I was going out too hard & fast at this whole fitness thing. Yet again today, it seems my body just wasn't with the program! Oh I did it. I dragged myself around my route, walked when I should, jogged when I should & even slowed the jogging part down a wee bit but it still felt as if I was trying to move through quicksand. I suspect part of the problem is that I'm using a route with some significant iclines. For me - if I can see them - they're significant...LOL! Seriously, they're a bit much for this newbie taking baby steps. I'm still waiting for the feeling of satisfaction I normally feel after a session but it hasn't arrived yet.

So Saturday, I'm doing a new route - a loop around an old harness racing course that works out to be about 3/4 of a mile in total. It's about a 7 minute walk from home, so that gives me a good warmup & cooldown walk & once I can run 30 minutes, I know that if I can propel myself around the loop four times, I've got my 5k or 3 miles. THEN, I think, I can start worrying about hills & such. This week, I'm just finding them too discouraging & they're emptying the gas tank too quickly. The good thing about today is that the niggle I had behind my right knee has disappeared. I suspect I simply wasn't stretching properly. That is good & no matter how I feel, I've got another session 'in the bank'. W4D2 is done!

Re: FINISHERS... Week 4 (C25K)

Hello All!

I have been reading and was wondering if I could join the team. I am on W4D2. I did it today and felt wonderful!! I was a runner (sort of) a couple of years ago I have renewed my love for the sport actually it never left and I am too excited!! I have my first 5K in April and I am planning to do an 8K in June. I don't know if that's pushing it but I figure I can try cause I know once I do one race I will be hooked. My ultimate goal is to run a marathon So I will do smaller races working my way there I want to be able to run a 1/2 marathon by this time next year. Is that realistic?

Well happy running everyone!!

Angel
