I ate a lot of anti-oxidants in my 20's and 30's. If you believe that

free radicals contribute to aging, this may have stopped it.

My grandfather road his bike 100 miles on Christmas day when

he was in his 60's, so the genetics are there.

I've done almost continuous speedwork 50 weeks of the year since

1983. Use it, or lose it.

The stability
of a radical refers to the molecule's tendency to react with
other compounds. An unstable radical will readily combine with
many different molecules.

Re: 50+ January 2008

No running today for me.

I took my son on a college campus visit at NYS University at New Paltz. The town of New Paltz is locally notorious as a hot bed of liberals and free thinkers. During the campus tour we passed several tables staffed by long-haired, bearded young men shouting anti-war slogans at passers-by. The sight and sound took me right back to 1970.

After the campus tour walked through the town. At the local tatoo-and-head shop there was a group of pierced, inked and pretty dazed looking kids loafing on the steps in the sunshine. The Muddycup coffehouse offered a double espresso for $2 and a large lounge with sofa, armchairs, bookshelves, and small stage for performers. We walked by the Wayside Inn - An Alternate Hostelery. Some tired looking guys with dreadlocks were hanging out on the front porch. There is no telling what you might find going there any given night.

I think a lot of free radicals are congregating in New Paltz. I know I feel younger after just a few hours there.

Pt - That made me snork out loud. Instead of that making me feel young again; it makes me feel old. :)

5.75 miles this morning with some slow and injured runners at 8:45 miles. Just can't stand to run that slow and that's what I'm suppose to do on my long runs? 5.75 miles tonight at 7:40 avg with a mid 6 thrown in for fun. Easy 5.75 tomorrow and then masters pr 10K Saturday.

Re: 50+ January 2008

I always thought of New Paltz as a town I go through on my way to Mohonk. Ran a tenK there one summer where you ran up to that stone tower and down the hill again. When i got to the tower the view was so breathtaking that i almost came to a dead stop. What a great place to run or just walk around. Joe, as nice an area as it is where you run, have you ever gone up there? Right off the Thruway.

In my work women stare at me for 8 hours every day. When I go back to the hotel I just want to get away from everyone. Of course they stare at me because I am the facilitator for some sales training program or other. This week it's Sioux City, and I have to work here tomorrow too. They're bringing a mess of people in for a Saturday program. I'd better not bomb or there will be a mess of annoyed people.

My wife is ten years younger than I am. Running 4 days a week, signed up for a half in May, and does core workout every day. Proud of her. Spareribs

Fred

Did you post that article? I may have missed it. Been off email and the web for several days.

Would like to read it.

60 is the new something. I don't know if it is 35 but it is something. ?:|
