Re: Chicago Code??
Jerry, I was also contemplating Chicago vs. Baltimore vs. MCM, but no way could I handle two full mara's in the same month (certainly insane for me). I definitely am planning on MCM in '08... and considering Chicago for '09. Baltimore offers both a half and a full... and it so happens that my training schedule calls for a tapered 13-miler at planned marathon pace 2 weeks prior to MCM... so I signed up for the Baltimore Half -- but will not run it all out -- rather, I'll target running it at a 9+ mm planned marathon pace and use it as a training run.
x-runner -- my problem is hanging around with Mr. Jarhead (aka Donkey, aka Jimmy, aka Marine, aka... well, you get the picture.) This "machine" of a man keeps running all these races and inspiring me to become as fit and stupid as he is (that's the Marine part.)
I think what I'll do is register for Chicago... $110. Then register for MCM in April. As the summer progresses I'll see how my fitness and recovery cycles go and if I feel good, I'll run both. If not, I'll bag MCM. I've already run it and it will be there next year. But I've never run Chicago and I'd like to add it to the list of accomplishments. For my running career (new as it is), "been there, done that" is NOT really my driving force although I have the utmost respect for those who keep coming back year after year to tame the courses. But there are just so many miles a man can run . . . Obsessed with running and racing. It's all about the bling, baby! Suck it up and RUN!
Re: Chicago Code??
J, ok... you are insane IMHO if you do both... but then again, I think my logic to do Chicago in '09 is based on some delirious dreaming to BQ. I'm not even close at this time, but I do hit a new age bracket in '09... so my delirious dream is that another 1.5 years of running + more time allowance on the BQ table + a faster (?) course (theory is that Chicago is faster than MCM) has a small hope of a BQ... but even if I don't make a BQ... the consolation prize of adding Chicago to my been there done that list is worthy.... meanwhile, I'll add the Balt Half to the BTDT list for this year....

Okay Jery the first part bold is very descriptive somewhat true information but you have captured my true essence in the underlined part.LOL When I was a kid our soccer coach made us run 5 miles every monday as training aid to the soccer game. I was nicknamed robo runner because I was the fastest and would run closer to 7 miles so I could finish with the slowest kid. I have evolved to a machine. Jimmy The soccer team was a select traveling team that traveled from texas west into California.
Re: Chicago Code??
If/when I run Chicago, I will at least save the hotel costs, as that's where my sister lives. With her 37 other nun friends.
Somehow, I think that MCM, Philly, and Chicago all....would be insane. And...I don't know. Well, wait. When is Chicago, again? (**** you, Holly!) "Look! It's a cat on a stripper pole!" (who said that so I can credit you?)

It's easy to ignore those crazy running machine whose names begin with "J". But how can you ignore Holly? Lenz's Law is a special case of Le Chatelier's principle: Any change in status quo prompts an opposing reaction in the responding system. I like that one better.
