San Diego Marathon- Fast?

I ran a 3:07 in the New York last fall, and want to run under a 3:00 marathon. Is the San Diego a fast enough course to achieve this?

Re: San Diego Marathon- Fast?

I assume you're talking about the Rock n Roll San Diego marathon this june? If that is the case, then yes, I would say this is a fast marathon. The only real hills are from mile 7-10 where you have to run up the 163 highway, but it's not too steep of an incline, but still hard work. After recovering from an injury, I was able to break 3 hours on this course in 2007. I would say the NYC marathon is a lot harder than this one, so you definitely have a shot at sub-3 at RnR SD. Comparing it to Boston, hands down it's faster. Good luck!

Re: San Diego Marathon- Fast?
I haven't run the San Diego marathon, but I have attended many times and lived there. From what I have heard, everyone says the course is fast and abaldman is correct about the 163 highway. It is a very high energy marathon too which I think also helps the runners. Are you still thinking about running it or are you considering other options?
