aussie: what state/s in US could I move to that has great trail running

Hello all,

I am an Aussie thinking of relocating to the US. I have never been to the US but I know it has some fantastic scenery. Does anyone have any suggestions on what states might be best to relocate to? I desire somewhere scenic eg rivers, greenery, with trail running/ultra running opportunties, temperate/mild climate. My only requirements would be that I work as a health researcher and would need to be located near a metropolis with universities/hospitals so I can obtain work. I would like the trails to be within a 1-2hr drive. I am sure you have many places in your beautiful country you could kindly recommend to me. THanks,

HW

Most cities in the US have nice trails not far away. I'm most familiar with New York, and it has some of the best trails for running in the US within an hour by train (in the City you don't need/want a car). Our temps are rarely too hot and humid or too cold. We might get a short stretch of each each year. But there's something to be said for having four seasons, and upstate New York is as beautiful a place as you're likely to find anywhere. Don't know about ultras, but there are races in the City on nearly every week-end year round, plus plenty just outside and plenty of competitive running clubs.
