Re: C25K Wk 1 (2/4) Group?

minus 40!!! are you kidding me. I will definately stop complaining about my chilly Philly weather.

Eating..i am a vegetarian and have been for many years. My wife being a personal trainer and nutritionist, I have no problem eating well. I just eat what she gives me. example Today I had

breakfast: oatmeal and raisins with soy milk

Lunch: stir fry rice and veggies with setan

snack: nuts and raisins

Dinner: looks to be shaping up to be pasta with olive oil and garlic with a nice loaf of bread.

I call myself a vegetarian loosely, I will have a piece of fish if Im out and I eat eggs.My wife on the other hand, strick veggie! no meat whatsoever, no fish, no nothing. But she is knowlegable and knows how to put together a tastey and nutritius meal with not much effort. I'm very lucky in that regard.

PS Ive been known to plow through a box of choc chip cookies now and again.

Re: C25K Wk 1 (2/4) Group?

Howdy :)

My husband and I started 2/6 and I tell ya - I thought I was going to die. I haven't ran in ten years maybe? I used to think - who would want to run, for fun?? Haha

But anyhow - I've been on Weight Watchers since November & dropped twenty pounds. Before, my doc told me to NOT jog because of my weight and finiky back. I came across a post about c25k on one of my WW communities and decided it was about time to get off my butt.

As hard as day 1 was, I was somewhat sore. We took a brisk 30 min walk yesterday to keep the movement going and hit day 2 today. While I was still huffing and puffing like no tomorrow, I didn't ask once when the torture would end :) It really was a bit easier and I can't tell you how pleased I am!

Nice to meet you all & I look forward to reading & sharing progress!

You guys have a group going already - congrats on that & especially for doing day 2. One of the tricks to avoiding too much stiffness & soreness & some walking on off days the first few weeks. I missed one walk & thought I'd die the next time I ran - talk about stiff! The soreness will decrease next week & by the end of it, should be just about gone. Your body is getting used to new ways & speeds of moving, is all.

Can I jump in here? I actually started on 02/05 (Tue). My third run will be tomorrow. For Week 2 I plan on making my days Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays. I was too excited to start and didnt' want to wait another week to start on a Monday.

Re: C25K Wk 1 (2/4) Group?
For diet I am doing Weight Watchers. I have always wanted to be able to run. Even when I was a gym rat and in super good shape I could never run for cardio. I feel great after Day 2. Definitely not as bad as I though it was going to be.

Way to go Safyre, what an inspiration you are. I'm a bit down today, couldn't get my run in, but tomorrow I'm back at it and can't wait. Good luck to you.

Re: C25K Wk 1 (2/4) Group?
Thanks!

We did day three today & it was harder. We ate 1.5 hours before, we didn't wait long enough. We're also used to doing it in the evening & not at 11:30am. The high sun did not help! We also didn't walk yesterday.

I made it through though! I stuck it out & feel great for doing that. A mere month ago it wouldn't have been possible for me without a doubt.

I think we're going to repeat the week one routine one or two more times before we move on. If there is a worse level than couch potato, that was me for sure.

So far, the changes I have noticed in myself is I have more energy now. I feel like I should be doing something when I'm sitting on the couch watching TV. I'm more tired at night & sleeping better as well. These are great things!!

Re: C25K Wk 1 (2/4) Group?

Hey there,

I so glad I found this group; I started the program last week (4 Feb) and finished W1D3 on Sat. I'm looking to start W2 tonight but I think perhaps I need a peer group to keep me honest so I I'd love to hook up with you guys and share the experience. I hope that's OK?

For me, I'm a 40yo guy and I live in Melbourne Australia, it's high summer here so I dont have any real excuses for not getting out for a run. I've NEVER run before, even before the dreaded middle age spread when I was young fit & active I didnt run so the last week has been a fair shock to the system. I have been walking regularly for quite some time so while my fitness has not eroded completely to zero W1 was still a real trial. The biggest issue being ankles and knees (pain) which I has been addressing with 'off day' walking and ice after a run....it is a bit better today ( I think).

Anyway, enough blather from me, I hope it's OK to tag along with you folks & I will check back in with an update later.

Regards

Threepwood

Re: C25K Wk 1 (2/4) Group?

welcome threepwoood, I'm glad you found us, the more the merrier I always say. I started week 2 today, and made out pretty good, it was a bit of a workout but not too bad. I'm finding stretching when ever possible has helped my after effects.

Safre, way yo go, struggling through it and all. Keep it up and I'm glad to hear you've noticed some changes. I too feel a bit more energenic, and also have the thoughts of, "why am I watching TV?" So I get up and stretch or do some curls. I love the feeling of wanting to do something. feels great. Good luck with your repeat of W1
