Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Feb 10th
hi all, well no running today just rest. Hopefully tomorrow at the gym for bike and short TM run.

misswendy - I'm glad you are back, at least sort of. Keep resting and you will be back soon. Best wishes to you and your family. Get better! Remember Chicago marathon is in the fall. That is going to be my race report as well, no one will pass me after 1 mile because I'm in last place. lol

peg - glad your weather is good. Take care of the hip as I went through those problems a few weeks back.

sheila - glad to hear your shins are better after the problem day. Just rest and ice them.

jp - great race and congrats!

jeff - wow, I completely understand the long hours and hard work you do during the peak season. It must be really difficult to get the running in. My help has been this thread. It helps make me want to post and run.

spicegeek - stay slow and if you add the 4th day maybe add it every other week. I wish I would have started running much sooner in life or maybe I should just not try to make up for it by running 50 a week.

mary - good to hear from you. One of the races I'm planning on is the Madison HM over Memorial Day weekend. With this weather it is tough to get miles in outside. Are you running outside or inside this winter? Don't push DH too fast.

well I'm not going to complain about the weather as I will be in the gym for the next few days. Maybe Wednesday I will be outside. Think spring !!???

Hello everyone! Rest day today. Ahhh, am I lucky it's so cold outside today. It didn't even get above 0 degrees today. Winds were something to behold. I'll try and upload some pictures I shot today. It was really beautiful in some ways. The snow blowing all over. A couple of times when I was driving this morning with the snow blowing over the road it seemed like I was riding on clouds. 20 minutes easy running tomorrow afternoon. Supposed to be around 9 degrees for a high.

Spicegeek, yeah I know what you mean. Workouts can tend to be boring, especially if I get in a rut of always doing the same thing.

Runjr, I know what you mean about slipping and sliding. When I'm doing my easy runs it doesn't bother me at all. Just when I try to go faster. That'll be Thursdays tempo run. Hey, maybe you can use this guy's snowblower! LOL!

Misswendy, oh too bad for you! I hope your DH is taking care of you!

Peg, good work on the 3 miles. I'm sorry to hear about your hip!?! Take it easy.

Sheila, Take it easy with those shins. You did great getting through those runs.

JPGarland, Wow! Congratulations on your race! Those are fantastic times.

JeffRw, so you like running in the cold too! I promised my DD#3 I wouldn't run outside when it was below zero anymore. So I'll wait to do my run tomorrow afternoon.

Mary, Welcome back! I just printed out the registration form for the Shuffle last night! I'm going to enter the 10K.

Well lets see if I can upload some of those pictures...

Just some of the weather we have here. I wish I could share the cold with you guys LOL!

Good luck to everyone with there runs! See ya tomorrow

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Feb 10th
Kevin, those pics look way too familiar! I can't imagine doing a tempo run in the weather we are having - even with yak trax on, running is dicey for me in the snow.
Run Jr, I am planning on doing the Green Bay half on May 18 - the Madison half has been super hot the past few years. I may volunteer at it - that would be fun! I did the 10 K there last year - it is a nice route and it is fun to hit Brat Fest after the race. Unfortunately 90% of my miles are on the dreadmill these days.
Spice Geek, yes I did the Chicago half as my first half. It is a great course - flat and out and back from the Museum of Science and Industry. Miles 3-10 goes up and down Lake Shore Drive - beautiful but no shade and it got up to 79 degrees which was too hot for me without shade for that long. There is lots of entertainment and spectators. I love Chicago - may go to watch it next year. I am thinking of doing a half with in Nov. in San Antonio or Santa Barbara with the friends who did the Chicago half with me.
HI Wendy!
Chuck, I will let dh set the pace. There is a killer hill in the 5K that we will mostly like walk up.
Thanks for the welcome back. It's good to be back!
Mary

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Feb 10th

Hey Fellow HMers! MARY - great to hear from you again! RUNJR & KEVIN - OMG - that is so much snow! We could trade places for a bit? KEVIN - so sorry your race was cancelled - sounds like you've been doing great - good for you! RUNJR - definitely let us know if your serious about coming to TX - we could offer some advice - any idea what city/cities you might want to visit?

JOE & PEG - Hey there - good to hear from you again! PEG - sorry your hip is bothering you - EEK! Keep us posted.

MISSWENDY - Glad you're feeling better - heard that tea with HONEY is good for a cough - see what you think.

KATHYWING - Wow! That Sedona course looks amazing & seriously difficult! Good for you!

SPICEGEEK & SHEILA - Hello! You guys are working way too much - man!

JEFF - You have twins? How old are they?? I have 3 girls!

CARA - Thinking about you - allow yourself to go through all of the emotion (even the ones you want to suppress, naturally) - helps keep you sane! I'm so very sorry to hear that your parents are going their separate ways...will they both stay in the same town? Do you have siblings?

I'm seriously sore (and perhaps a bit crazy!) - I ran 7.75M this a.m. & then met with my trainer for some Pilates training - yikes am I sore! I still plan to meet my running partner in the a.m. - rest day is slated for Tues...whew...going to bed very, very soon!

I wish I was so creative! It's really just a combo of my first name and my maiden name. Some guy in college came up with it and it has stuck for many years!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Feb 10th

Hey everyone. Been off the grid for this week. I figured out my fatigue problem. Seems I had a fever brewing so I was out for two days. I ran on day three and felt back on track. Ran 4 miles...the first three at 24:00 straight up and the last at 7:35 but only because it was dark (scary dark) and I was alone since my running partner didn't show! Looooser!

MissWendy-hope you are feeling well. it's so hard to get back on track especially if you take any cold meds. heard cupcakes are a good cure!

runjr- i totally understand the aches and pains thing. you really rock...the miles you put in are huge! I was doing that as well and not only did i have physical but mental fatigue. my coach put two days of cross training in place of one long run day. working well i must say. it's been two months now. i just turned 40 this year but my mind is fighting it. hope the foam roller is working for you as well...

spicegeek-good God girl...what workout don't you do??? how's the boxing going? seriously i will get you a team cougar shirt if we (the other cougars and I) get shirts designed! ha ha...gotta love the young ones

tommashe-hope you are resting well. you ran a great race and your bpdy just needs alittle tlc and you'll be as good as new!

joe-hope you are well....loving this Texas weather right? Wasn't Fri Sat and today awesome outside! Sorry to you Snow Dudes...not trying to rub it in...85 degrees today though....

marilyn-how are you doing since your Austin race? I leave Friday for the ATT Austin race....yikes those hills!

Hope everyone else had a fabulous week and weekend. Stay strong!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Feb 10th

Hey all,

Thanks for all the kind thoughts! You guys are great... you're actually the only people i've told other than DH and a close friend! Things have calmed down a little and i'm seeing my mum over the weekend - she's coming to stay so hopefully everything will work out for the best whatever happens. And the running definitely helps with it all!

Macd - that Indy mini... you can get quite far in 3 months so I wouldn't rule it out! Have a look at Hal Higdon's beginner plan, or I think Marilyn suggested something recently too that had lower mileage and sounded great!

Spicegeek - sorry you had to spend your weekend working but I can definitely see the appeal of the gym! You do seem to have an amazing variety of exercise which will surely do you great in the long run!

Runjr - great 10 over the weekend... make sure you rest up those aches as you really don't want an injury!

Joe - It sounds lovely that you and DW are both racing! you can share the enjoyment after... great 6 too.

Jeff - great time on that race! Especially after just 6 weeks... imagine what you could be doing if you stuck with running throughout the year ;)

Kevin - sorry your race was cancelled, but they'll be plenty more and at least you got a run in anyway. Love those pics... it always amazes me to see snow like that when we hardly get a sprinkling in the South of England. I've not seen any snow this winter!

Kathy - good to hear from you again... great race and that time it really good with all those hills

Eero - welcome... are you a marathon runner or halfer? We are all working to halfs, but some have asperations of the full distance!

Misswendy - great to see you back but take it easy still! no running for you just yet ;)

Peg - take it easy with that hip pain. How was the movie?

Sheila - 16 miles when you are having the week from h#ll is great! Keep icing those shins and rest them up!

JPGarland - amazing time on your HM! I usually find that no-one passes me after about the 3rd mile too... usually for me though it's because i'm pretty much last and then pick up paces from those that went out too quick ;) I definitely feel that wind as I had that problem in my 10K last year... it's a real killer but makes the achievement even better so congrats!

Mary - great to see you back! That Bob Greene challenge sounds like it'll put you through the paces

Laurel - I was wondering where you'd gotten too! I've got a younger brother (28 - still lives at home) and sister (26 - lives round corner from my parents) - at least they are close to support my mum as it's more difficult for me being a couple of hours away. My Dad has moved across the country to a rented flat... apparently he was credit checked for it back in August so this has been going on for a while... we think there's another woman involved somewhere, but still waiting for it all to come out! Great run for you though 7.75 miles is fabulous! hope that soreness has gone!

Andahuff - that is a combo of your name??? In that case you were obviously born to be a runner!!!

Stunata - Glad you're over that fever. Nice speedy 4 for you!

I've got 5 on the schedule for tonight so will report back later! Hey - think I need to post more as mine are always really long! :D
Happy running all
Cara

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Feb 10th
good morning all, still cold here as Kevee's pictures show. I will be in the gym and then to a basketball game with DD. we are supposed to get up to 6" more snow tonight. I'm going to shop for a snow blower.

kevee - enjoy your rest day. It can only get better, hang in there.

mary - have the yak trax been good? I tried to get to the Green Bay HM but the hotels were booked too soon. I'm signing up for Madison and may fit in Oshkosh in April.

laurel - thanks for the offer of assistance on what to visit if we decide to travel over spring break. If we go I would be in Dallas for a few days and for sure San Antonio. Right now it is 50/50 that we travel. Trying to get one last vacation in before DD heads off to college. 7.75 miles that is fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How is the knee? Way to go!

stunata - It is not good when your running partner pulls a no show and it is frustrating. Great time though on your run. Thanks for the insight on cutting back the miles. How many miles are you running per week?

cara - good luck with the 5 miler tonight. It is a tough situation that you are going through. I can only think of running and talking everything out will help you deal with the situation. We are thinking of you.

take care all.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Feb 10th

Well, the movie was one of the most boring movies I have ever seen. YAWN. I couldn't wait for it to be over. The acting was great. But just didn't understand it at all!!!!

Me, DH and DD all have bikes now, we got beach cruisers. We rode a lot yesterday. Hoping to have another weekend like the one we just had and then go to Galveston and ride on the seawall.

I guess you all are right. I shouldn't beat myself up to bad about having a bad run. I am hopefully going to get home at a good time and run on the stinkin treadmill. HA.

Have a good one!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Feb 10th

hey yall

some better today. still a monster cough...almost didnt sleep because of it. hope DS does not get sick.....beautiful weather here. sunny, maybe up to 70 today.

runjr...thanks, glad to be back--sort of. i wish i had run earlier in life as well. i suppose i want to make up for it by doing as many races as i can to accumulate the always-fashionable race tshirts. stay warm. i wish i could share some of the gallons of soup people have sent over. hope you get one more trip w dd. where is she going to school?

kevee...DH did more than his share while i was really down. he did the entire bday party for DD--lunch included. great pics. this is where you live? looks like farmland.

marflair...brat fest sounds like something my DH would attend. 79 degrees with no shade too much? well, you certainly would not like it here!

lspence...great run and pilates...i have tried lots of things to stop coughing. guess i'll just have to wait it out.

andahuff...in college, in one circle of friends, i was known as butch. (not the usual connotation!!!!!!) a guy misunderstood me as i introduced myself in a noisy room. thankfully, it did not stick!!!! however, my father in law is nicknamed (you guessed it) butch.

stunata...trying not to take too many cold meds. cupcakes and most everything else just dont taste as good right now. having a fever is the worst. take care! hey--are you class of 86?

chamblin....sorry about your parents. had the same experience at about the same age...it is so hard...

jeffrw...how was the treadmill?

peg...biking on the seawall sounds really fun. maybe can think of that while on the stinking tm

joe...work is overrated. your strange feeling is correct, but still waiting to run. maybe a long walk tomorrow when DS goes back to school and i have a morning to myself. have fun at the dentist....

eero...welcome! you are fast!

kathywing...thanks for posting! great to hear from you

love to all

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Feb 10th

Hello, all! Welcome Eero and welcome back, MarFlair and Kathy_Wing! Gorgeous pictures of that Sedona race! Congrats--it looks like a very tough course! Congrats to jp too on a great race in tough conditions! Kevin, sorry your race was cancelled, but it's easy to see why from your pictures! I don't know how you and runjr run outside in that.

Hope everyone with injuries/illnesses is feeling better... misswendy, I tried to keep up the baking for you, made choc chip cookies Friday night... and have only eaten 4! And what is going on in MS?? I hear there is a bill in your legislature to ban fat people from eating in restaurants?!

Cara, glad to hear you'll have some time with your mum. Talk a lot and use your runs for therapy, they can really help. I think Marilyn had mentioned Jeff Galloway's HM training program. I looked at it and Hal Higdon--Galloway is too long for the time I would have, and HH would finish on the day of the race--no slack time! It only builds to 10 miles, which seems a bit short to me for half prep, but I told DD#2 I would give it a try. DD#1 (my more experienced runner) doesn't think that's enough time for me to be ready, though she did check the time limit on the race, and it allows for ~18mm--so I could walk the whole thing if I wanted (which I don't). If I weren't doing ALL my running on the TM right now, I might have a little more confidence, but I just can't make myself get outside in this weather. I'll see how the next month goes and then decide.

I need to get back to work, so shout outs will have to wait. Happyrunning all!
