Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Feb 10th
hi all, I ran outside today and it was slick in a few spots but great. I think the cross training may help as I am not as sore and ran 7.05 miles at 8:52 pace. I must keep x-training to confirm my initial thoughts. It was about 18 degrees and somewhat windy, but the good thing about running into the wind is .... you get to run with it at your back as well.

jeff - you are patient to not look at the TM display. Great run on the TM, 9 miles that is impressive. The two TV's have to help.

joe - have you been back to spinning? I might sign up for a session by our gym as well.

chuck - good advise for miss wendy. So are you getting anxious for your race? Take an easy pace for most of it tomorrow and the rest of the week. Is the weather still looking okay for your race? Are you running in the pearls?

stan - great to hear from you. Keep resting. Take care of your family!

take care all.

runjr, the race forcast as it stands for now is 60 at the start and raining. Yes I'm running in the Pearls, might switch to my Assics at the 9 mile mark. I'll have a tye wrap for the chip and a dry pair of socks hoping not to get blisters.

Stan, hope you and your's get better soon! {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{ }}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} Bowl of Chicken soup for you and yours!

Ispence,

Where is So Cal do you live? I moved from 1000 Oaks to Missouri in 83. I also lived in Woodland Hills and Canoga Park sp?

I miss the ocean so bad. I have been to Florida, but it does not compare to the Cali beaches. I miss surfing, body surfing, skim boarding etc.

I would love to come out for the San Diego Rock n Roll marathon or if they have a race at Huntington Beach or Malibu.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Feb 10th

Hello everyone! I did my 30 min run this afternoon. It was an easy run. The weather wasn't too bad. I'll be doing a 70 min tempo run early tomorrow. Hopefully outside before the snow comes. Were supposed to get another 5-8 inches! This is getting real old. If the roads are slick I'll do the run at the gym.

Misswendy, Great that you could get out for a run! Every little run will get you back in shape!

Macd019, good work on the 3 miles. Yeah, I guess I might be a little crazy! LOL. But I love to run outside!

Laurel, I'm running in the am also. I'll be thinking of ya. I lost the weight last year Jan-July/07. I've put a few pounds back on over the holidays but not too bad. Thanks! Speed bumps as hill work? Ha, Ha, that's good! LOL!

JeffRW, great work on the 9 miles on the treadmill! And with no headphones. If it's snowing at 4:00am tomorrow I'll have to do my tempo run (70 min) on the treadmill. I'm for sure going to remember my Ipod.

Joe, alias future moderator, LOL! Hey how come everytime I reply to a message my options reset to email notifications? Do you know?

Chuck, good luck on the 3 miles tomorrow! I've come to enjoy running the hills. I remember when I first moved to Mayville (last April) the hills kind of scared me. But now there aren't any that I can't get up at an easy pace, and most I have no problems even at a moderate pace. Haven't tried race pace yet...

Stan, sorry to hear you're still ailing with that flu. I hope you're better soon.

Runjr, good job on the 7 miles, and a great pace too! Wasn't it nice out today? I'm hoping the snow holds off for me to get my run in early am. Tomorrow!

Good luck to everyone on your runs tomorrow! Those that are sick or ailing, take it easy!

Happy Valentine's day!

Kevin

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Feb 10th

Hi everyone, another lazy day for me today, what can I say, I have no excuses.

Kevee--great job on the 6 miles especially in that weather

Joe--did you say sunshine, gosh that sounds nice, they are saying we will get some tomorrow. I hope so,

kathy, multiply computers would be nice, maybe I'll get my daugher a laptop for x-mas next year. This year the i-phone won.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that has trouble with my legs on the treadmill, I think my gait is off on the treadmill or something.
The 1/2's you picked for next year sound like good ones.

miss wendy--good job on your run this morning, you are really getting some miles in. No the sleepover didn't help, but I'm telling myself--no excuses tomorrow. I'm going to the Y as soon as I get off of work.

macd--I'm with you on running on the snow covered roads, I'm a clutz anyway. Maybe we could close our eyes and pretend like we are in California with Kathy. 84 degrees. That would feel good about now.

Laurel--glad you got your project done, how did your run go? I live in Kentucky, we usually don't get this kind of weather.

runj-- I think it is so cool that you have your dd and dw to run with. Did you get a run in?

JeffRW-- 9 miles on the treadmill is great, especially with no music. The longest I've done on the treadmill is 7 and that was with music. I wonder how it would be listening to a audio book. It would probably mess you up, could you imagine every time it got to a suspenseful part, I'd probably slow down to a crawl. LOL

Chuck-- ok Florida would be nice, but if I'm gonna dream, I think I'll pick Hawaii. We went on vacation there once and it was beautiful. I would love to do the marathon that they have there but you have to raise so much money to run in it.

stan--hope you get to feelin better soon.

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY EVERYONE!!!!

sheila

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Feb 10th

crazy busy here ... got a good hour cardio and ab work out in tho - and got talking to a girl at the gym who I have admired for sometime - she is in awesome shape and did extreemly well in some triathlons last year - she`s planning a half iron man this year - totally sweet person - turns out we work across the street from each other and both love scuba diving - always good to make a new friend !

Serious EC shortage - oh well !!!!

Have to skip the shout out but I hope the sick people get well and the well people stay that way !!

As for treadmill strides I read or was told new runners temd to lengthen there stride on the TM and experienced runners shorten it

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Feb 10th

I can't possibly keep up with all of you all. I do get a kick out of reading your reports. It is really motivating.

I can't believe it is already Wednesday. Yesterday I hit the gym and pounded out 3 miles on the tmill fast. I have to admit to not being able to run my short run day slowly. Its too boring. Got hubby a trainer for his birthday so maybe that bike that is worth more than many cars I have owned in the past will make it's way out of the garage.

Today, I headed outside on a new path that was wonderful. I ran 4 in 35:01 and felt really good. I had an almost collision with a biker. I was kickin' it with my headphones on and he came barreling at me and yelled, "on your LEFT" and then passed me on my RIGHT. It was kinda annoying as we both almost ended up in the street with the traffic.

Cara-awesome progress! I am impressed at how your times have dropped! I need to log my stuff better. Right now my times are in a notebook, on my ipod, on my watch and in text messages I send my husband. Does anyone have anything they use in particular to track their running?

Kevin-55 pounds?? That is amazing!! I can't imagine how different you must feel and how many people you must inspire.

Spicegeek- I have a EC story for you. Yesterday I headed to the small neighborhood grocery store where the clerk told me that Matthew McConnoughey (sp?) was in there a few days earlier. The rumor is that he has bought the penthouse in a 27 story highrise that was just built on the waterfront nearby....I am SERIOUSLY considering changing all my running paths to include a jaunt around the highrise. OR I might get a job as a cashier at that store! HA!

Happy Valentines Day to all.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Feb 10th

Hi all,

Miss Wendy, LOL on the twix wrapper! Out of site, out of mind, right? I stopped and got a few Valentine goodies for my kids today (along with some dark dove chocolate promises for myself!).

Stan, sorry to hear you were sick. We have a big sign up at work warning us that the Flu has arrived! Luckily I got my shot in Nov.

Chuck, good luck this weekend. The 60's sounds great! Hopefully the rain will hold off.

Laurel, hope work slows down. The Pilates sounds like it is working for you!

Kathy, I bet that Big Sur half is beautiful. I can't imagine those elevation changes - I am used to rolling hills!

SGeek, lol on the eye candy! Maybe you will be doing a tri next?

Macd, I love my yak trax for running in the snow. But I can't get the speeds that Run Jr. gets -amazaing!

Kevin, your snow is going to mostly miss us. Thank goodness, south of Madison has taken a beating. Did you find a snowblower?

Joe, it is tough running in winds. Good for you for getting your run in. Do you run on your lunch hour?

Sheila, I know about lazy days. I missed my run today - just needed some more sleep. My first night (I work three 12 hour nights in a row) is always tough.

Jeff, 9 miles on the dm is amazing! Good time too!

Anda, let us know if you spot any MM EC! I would change my route too.

Happy VD all!

Mary

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! The pic I've uploaded is of a T-Rex that was made by a local metal fabricator. They decorate it for each season. Obviously, he (or she) is asking everyone to ‘be his/her valentine'. I thought it was pretty cool.

Anyway, I did my 70 min tempo run this morning. We had gotten 1 inch of new snow but that didn't bother me. I ran 26 min easy (12:30 pace), 20 min mod (10:45 pace) and 24 min <easy (13:45 pace). The run felt good at the time, although the second round of slow and easy my legs definitely were tired. 5.7 miles in 1:10. Not my best but, it was great to be out.

Hi Sheila, you'll get your ‘running set' back. All you have to do is ‘do it' (sorry Nike)

Spicegeek, good xtraining workout! Yes it is a small world, that person I work next to could be my next running partner...

Andahuff, congrats on the 3 miles. AND the 4 miles (excellent time). I usually try to envision how someone will take my comments on the trail. But ‘On YOUR left' would seem to be somewhat self-explanatory.

Yeah thanks, there's 3 people at church and 2 at work that are amazed and inspired enough to go on their own weight loss programs. I got on the scale this morning (after my run of course) and saw 150 again for the first time since before Thanksgiving! WooHoo!

Mary, I gotta stay away from the Valentine's Day sweets, that's what made 150 such a ‘fleeting' number... I've got a snowblower in the garage, works great! I don't know about runjr though... LOL!

Ah well, time to get the kids goin, leave for work, go to DD#3 volleyball game, go to church for a finance meeting, ahhh now I remember why I run early in the morning..

Good luck to everyone on their runs today! Those that are sick or injured, rest easy!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Feb 10th

Hey guys!

Was just going to type a quick message as i'm so busy today, but then had to reply to a couple of things I read and then felt guilty for not replying to everyone... so now it's another long mail i'm afraid :D

Got in 5.13 in 51.34 minutes yester so pretty much exact 10mm. Legs are feeling very tired at the moment so I know i'm really pushing my training to its limits. Got 3 to run (probably tomorrow morning) and then 11 for the weekend but will try to take it easy. Just 3 more weeks for me... two full long runs, a tapered long run and then D Day!

Jeff - your session at the pool sounds like fun... and any amount of swimming can definitely count as cross training. Amazing 9 on the TM... I don't know how you manage that far on those things and at such a fantastic pace too!

Laurel - Hope you got that run in as you did PROMISE ;) Congrats on finishing the project - hope you celebrated!

Spicegeek - How was Eddie Izzard? Was it a standup routine?

Chuck - you're weather sounds like a nightmare. Hope you've managed to warm up from washing those planes! keeping my fingers cross that you get good weather for your race! Hope you get into that other race too.

Runjr - Hope you're still seeing that sun! We've had a week of beautiful weather and spring like temperatures, but today it's cold and cloudy again :( supposed to be sunny by the weekend though although still cold... I can cope with that! Great 7.05 run too...

Joe - Great run in the wind... i'm sure it makes you stronger! Have a great rest day! You should get DW to read some of the weight loss success stories on here - maybe she could take up C25K as part of a weight loss program? She'd get loads of support on here as well as at home i'm sure! Hmm - 'rest day' vrs 'couch day' so... if it's in the plan it's a rest day, but wussing out of a run make a couch day? I like that thought!

Misswendy - great that you're back out and running. LOL on the twix wrapper!

Sheila - that snow sounds a bit of a nightmare actually... i'm sure that if I was in your position i'd take a few rest days too! Or do those count as couch days ;) Enjoy them and get back out there when you are ready!

Kevin - 6 miles of hills? i'm impressed! And congrats on the weight loss too! oh and it's nice to see that someone else can write a post as long as mine!!! That's the trouble if you only post once in the day... and if you miss a day then you're doomed! ;)

Kathy - a half with more hills... you are MAD!!! I try to find the flattest possible! That running club sounds like a great idea too... we have a local one that trains for the London Marathon but it's hard to get a place in the marathon so sometimes people start the training and then don't get in. How disappointing would that be!

Macd - LOL on the cookies! You need to hide them away... I always have to do that with DH or he eats them all ;) Great 3 yesterday... you'll have the distance up in no time!

Stan - GET WELL SOON...!

spicegeek - hey... now you have female EC too???

Andahuff - I can't run slow on short run days either! I'm sure it's psychological... Great 4 yesterday! I log on runningahead.com now as it really is a much better log that on this site. I'm sure there's loads of others out there though... I think runners world have a good one too? Oh - and it's definitely worth changing your running route for EC - follow spicegeeks example! :)

Mary - hope the kids enjoy those goodies! And that you enjoy the chocolate too...

OK - i'm done! DH is taking me out for a Thai meal tonight.. and I got breakfast in bed this morning! I may not be able to post for a few days so don't worry if i'm not around. Got day off work tomorrow, then my mum visits Sat and we're going to my aunts Sun / Mon. I'll be back tues and will catch up then!

Chuck... Good luck with the race!!!!

Happy running all and speedy recoveries for those that can't run
Cara

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Feb 10th

Kevin, great pic--how fun! Happy V-day, all! Great job on your run, Kevin--glad you were able to get it in.

runjr, I didn't mean you were nuts for living in WI--I love it there! Just for running in some of the extreme conditions you're dealing with. I grew up in VT and I do like the snow--though it's more fun when you can ski on it! Maybe by this time next year, I'll have enough confidence to be out there running in it too (though like marflair said, yak trax sound like a good idea to me!). Any luck finding a snowblower?

chuck, I'll say a prayer for dry weather for you this weekend... Good luck!!

Sheila, better not close your eyes while running! LOL We'll probably have 84 degrees before we know it (and I'll still be complaining because I don't like the heat!). Hope your ice has all melted.

jeff, I don't know how you can go so far on the TM--and without music! No wonder you can pin your DS!

andahuff, I'd definitely change my route for MM EC! You are making great progress, too. I use the log at RunningAhead and like it.

Stan, sorry to hear the flu's still hanging on. Hope you can all kick it soon!

spicegeek, good workout and yes, new friends are always nice!

Cara, breakfast in bed! I'm jealous! You're right about hiding some cookies, I'll have to remember that next time. Great job on your run! Enjoy your Thai food and time with your mum and aunts!

joe, good luck on your 7!

8 miles on the bike for me this morning, and tomorrow is a rest day--I must need it because I overslept again this morning.

Have a great day, all!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Feb 10th

ok .. work is only mildly crazy today so I`ll try and catch up on the posts ! I have a 4 mile planned later when I escape to the gym - the back to back run does not seem to have had any adverse effect - I think adding that 4th day of running on alternate weeks might just be the trick - we`ll see by the end of this week.

Chuck ... do you really have to tie the planes down in bad weather ... I`m having trouble getting my head around that one !

Runjr - I think I`d be packing to move or at least take a vacation somewhere where the water is in liquid form by now ! we had a bout 3 inches of snow on Tues and I bitched all day ! But well done on the cross training - I think it gives the legs a chance to recover a bit

misswendy - you bet the EC is motivation .. sometimes I feel I just want to stop and one of them walks by so I have to stick my chest out and try and look cool and relaxed ... all while I`m dripping with sweat .. it`s a tough job but someone has to do it ! Twix cravings are a goos sign that you are getting better though !! how is the rest of the brood ?

Sheila - I think shovelling snow counts as a workout - not that I ever have to as I live in a full service apartment building and we have people to do things like that ... but thats WHY I live in the full servoce apartment building !

Kev - I admire you guys running in the snow - it just gets so slushy here so fast it would be like running on 6 inches of grease in no time - the last thing I want to do now is fall ! I love the t-Tex pic !

Joe .. keep up the good work !! dinner was fun - I had a couple of beers - rare event for me - the show was GREAT !

Kathy - good luck with your upcoming races + marathon training ! Yes I work with a trainer - I have a girl that works on weights / and functional training ..plyometics etc - I used to see here twice a week but I dropped back to once a week now that I can pretty much take care of my upper body training alone - I see her once a week now and every 4 weeks I`ll see here a second time to check in and adjust my upper body workouts so I don`t develope bad habits and I don`t get stuck in a rut. I also have a boxing trainer who I workout with once a week. I think it helped me to have a trainer but I was in bad shape 18 months ago and I needed that support and focus - she helped me get on track and she has focused the programs to help with my running as well as general weight loss and strength. I think a good trainer is a god send - a bad one is a waste of time - I lucked out that I ended up with the trainer I have - if I were start now I would speak with the trainer first and check into their qualifications and ask them what sort of plan they would suggest given my goals and see how I felt about their answers.

macd can I come over for dinner ... I love lasagne

Jeff -- 9 miles on the TM .. I think I maxed out at 5 .. maybe 6 in the past .. thats impressive !

andahuff - you win on the eye candy story for sure !! ... when can I come visit ! lol .. doesn`t he like to run about with no shirt on ... oh my ... I would be changing my running route !!

Cara .. Eddie was great - just a stand up routine - but VERY ad libbed - even for him - it was a small theater - maybe 500 seats - so he interected with the audience quite a bit - he looked very normal tho - no make up - not skirt .. he`s kinda hot when he`s dressed like a guy ! Anyway - he`s playing the same place for a month so I may get a ticket a go toward the end of the run - I used to go and see him 2 or 3 times when he played out here as I figured out no more than 1/3 of the show is scripted - the rest he just delivers off the cuff - he`s extreemly talented. I noticed no one else had any clue who he was ! lol

happy hallmark day .... sorry ... valentines day :)

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Feb 10th

Hi all! I will try and keep it short as I tend to get long-winded!

Joe (and any other spinners)- I keep asking but no one can tell me why the spinning is in the dark. Every time I peak in the window at the YMCA, I wonder.

JeffRW- you are a ZEN runner on the tmill! Doesn't someone market videos of running/biking paths that you can project on huge screens? That is probably the only way I could go that far on a tmill. So far, Ive only done 6 on the tmill and I started chanting restatements of the law out of boredom. The people nearby thought I was weird.

Runjr-does your trainer help stretch you? The best stretching I get is when someone helps me. I would love to pay a trainer to do that as DH has to be begged! maybe...if I PAYED him, he would do it!

Tommashe (Sheila)- Youre in KY? What did you think of that routing that the BB team took?

ON CHOCOLATE- I have almost totally cured myself of this obsession by only eating dark high cocoa content chocolate. You can only take so much of it. Also, if I have a hankerin, I drink some hot chocolate and it makes it go away.

ON EYE CANDY/Matthew Mc-the Kolache guy says he sold donuts to some of the guys moving in furniture. Maybe its TRUE. If I was single I would definately consider the Tri-guys as Mar suggested. They have the best bodies out there. (sorry men)

Kevin-My son was overcome with joy over that picture of the dino.

Chuck-ARE you changing shoes mid-way? Do you run through them ala Prefontaine?

Laurel- Im super curious about your Pilates. Is it a private studio in P-land? I have been kinda looking for a place that really knows what they are doing in regard to pilates.

MacD/Spicegeek and someone else-thanks for the sites for logging runs. Maybe now I can see my progress.

Well wishes to all!
