Feb 15, 2008 10:58 AMMean postsHas anyone else stumbled into other "active.com" forums by accident? I did and couldn't believe some of the nasty exchanges I was reading between members. I mean, seriously! I can't say I read every word of every post on the "old" boards, but I don't recall anyone on "our" MCM forum getting down & dirty, name calling and all that- with the possible exception of some friendly football rivalries (you know who you are!) & competition to be in the top 10 (you know who you are, again... !) I guess I'm hoping things will stay that way. This group has a great resource & source of inspiration & encouragement. Have a good weekend everyone & happy running! Susan
I'm not sure where I ended up- I've found that if you click on that left hand column, that says something like "more on this topic" you can end up anywhere. The particular section I was referencing was discussing the Ipod "controversy", but I can't tell you where it was. Maybe there's a thread about that. I tried to "back out" as soon as possible.

Likewise for me, and I feel sure Sara would agree. We may goof around a lot but none of us will put up with any real BS.
Re: Mean posts
Hi Susan,
Yeah, I've seen the same type of rudeness in other running forums and just say to myself "okay, this isn't for me" and leave. Oh well, to each their own I guess. Just curious, I noticed you went CityGirl when FarmGirl wasn't available. Are you a farm girl living in a city or a city girl living on a farm? (Too many Green Acres episodes as a kid may be fueling my interest in this.) Susan... you're right in that's it's unfortunate that adults can be so cruel to each other. You're also right in that this board is really fun and supportive and I'm thrilled to be associated with the people on it. I'm happy that I don't see this board turning south any time soon and that we'll continue to provide each other with support- personal and running. Speaking of the kindness of others, it made me think of this: http://www.craigslist.org/about/best/den/306153825.html Board rules: 1. All posts must be nice 2. All threads must be hijacked Hi Courir26- (is it Craig??) I've seen it too, but usually on boards where people are arguing over politics or religion- I guess I was surprised to see it in a running forum because my only experience with running forums has been this board. I know... to each his/her own (and hit the back button!) I am a city girl, born & raised in Boston- now living in the Washington D.C. area. However, my family & I just spent 3 years outside of Columbus, in a little tiny rural farming community- where I met a good friend & running partner, who is a true farmgirl. I took on that screen name, just as a joke- since I am the farthest thing away from a farmgirl. I used to call her that whenever a farm-community (rural living, essentially...) related question came up- like how to shock a well or detect the smell of propane. That's the short version to a long story. What about your screen name? What does that mean? Someone should start that thread again- we had one last fall... Susan lenzlaw wrote:

There is a major thread on the ipod issue (94 pages). Toby started it and Dave Vause was doing his best to moderate it. This particular issue for some reason gets rather heated. I personally take a live and let live attitude.A couple of "elitists" also showed up on that thread (one in particular). Another issue that generates a lot of heat. DCtoPgh wrote:

That made me cry! Len, So, did you find the section I was referring to? Now, I am probably going to end up sending everyone off to go see what I was talking about. So, if I read on- do the moderators get involved at some point? Just wondering. I have heard some negativity on the running trail before about Ipod usage- and we all know that in general, you simply have to stay out of the way of the cross country teams... I think people can get more bold when they are hiding behind a keyboard- you probably wouldn't see the same thing if you put everyone in a little discussion circle together. Okay... moving on.
