Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Feb 17th
hey everyone. Well the rain held off but the wind and heat and humidity did not.70 degrees and 85% humidity and gust up to 30. The wind was fine for the first 9 miles. I ran great to start, 3 mile mark 28 mints , 6 mile mark 57 mints, then the winds hit me in the face after 9. By mile 10 my time had dropped to 1:40. The rest of the course was straight into the wind. At mile 11 I was not sweating any more and had chills and felt light headed. At that point I decided to run walk some and make it to the end. I finished in 2:15, I think, forgot to stop my gamin. It was a tough and hard hot race. I am spent. I really should have ran a smarter race at the start, but the hills and heat really didn't get me, it was the wind. No one any where close to me to draft off of. It was a slow race one of my Friends said. Just not race conditions today, now we're under tornado warnings. I'll post some pictures later. Going to die now.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Feb 17th

Good morning everyone! I did my 10 miles (2:14) in the early am. this morning. Had to get it in before the snow started! Feeling a bit tired now, zzzzz!

Runjr, great run (Fri) and time! How about just starting the treadmill over? Snow being plowed (or shoveled) was the least of my problems this morning with all the rain/freezing rain, I was running around ice spots and puddles, stepped in more than a few! LOL.

Toshi, Those pictures were great! It looks like you had a good time too!

Cara, WooHoo! Great times. Have a great time with your mom!

Joe, had a good rest day yesterday! What's up for today, running? Looks like our cold front (hasn't gotten here yet) is gonna come down and bless you guys too! I was thinking about my ‘bad' runs lately and decided to refocus myself. My 30 min run yesterday was TREMENDOUSLY better. All because of better attitude at the start. ‘Course it didn't hurt that it was sunny and 30 degrees. LOL!

DB, I won't sneer, but I can't wait for it to get UP to 40 degrees.

I hope you can ‘hear' this while running your half; GOOD LUCK!

Misswendy, good for you you! Do another rest day and get that cough better! Hah! I'd just closed my eyes and enjoyed the bath... Can you tell there isn't a woman around in my life LOL! I did my 10 miles outside this morning. Won't go to the gym anymore unless it's below zero.

Macd019, Great 4 miles! Ha, I thought my dog was the only one that did that!

Andahuff, good run! Maybe the pain was just for the day... Hope so! Yeah, if I tried comparing myself to all the ‘young' kids at the gym, I be so depressed I'd never go back. LOL. Wear a raincoat for your run. I did, it worked great. Now if I could just work on that sweat issue... LOL!

Runjr, (again) Hope you enjoy the run. It sure was nice yesterday. Paid for it today though... Just read your next post... Great run and time!

Spicegeek, Good job on all the training! Your post reminded me of WHY I reevaluated my running goals. Over the past month my running has become more of a chore. Just one more thing I have to do in the day. So I kicked myself in the butt (figuratively) and told myself I enjoy running! It makes up for all the other ‘stuff' I fill my day with. Hey I just saw your post today, great job on the 4 miles. And cutting a couple of minutes off your time. Good for you!

Sheila, great job on the xtraining! I think getting together for a ‘group' half is a great idea!

JeffRw, Good job on the 4 miles. Slow is OK, take it easy on the workouts if your sick!

Chuck, great race report. Congratulations on the finish! I know you may not be happy with it but hey, you ran the race, and showed some smarts by slowing up a little at the end to finish. Don't be too hard on yourself. Can't wait for the pics.

Ahhh, finally reached the end of the shout-outs... Gonna be a good day. I foresee snowshoveling and snowblowing for later. Better rest up. Good luck to everyone on your runs today! Those that are recuperating...Rest easy!

Kevin

hey, I just got up from a nap and remembered something I wanted to tell everyone about the start of the race. After the Star Spangled Banner was sang about 10 Pelicans flew over in a vee formation. It was an awesome Pensacola Florida fly over,,, no bombs dropped!!!!!!!!!! LoL

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Feb 17th

Chuck, sorry to hear the weather was so uncooperative for your race today. Great job fighting through that wind! How neat about the "fly-over"--glad the pelicans didn't drop any bombs!

Kevin, great run this morning! Has the snow started? We are having a really weird day (for Feb.)--it's 58, VERY windy, one minute the sun is trying to peek out, the next it's pouring, and it's supposed to turn to snow overnight. I should've gone out for a run this morning, but it was a x train day on the schedule, and I didn't realize how warm it was before I'd done that.

spicegeek, great job on the 4 miles! Is your next race that same course?

I need to sign off and get some paperwork done... hope everyone is having a good Sunday!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Feb 17th

Hi everyone, did 5 miles at the Y this afternoon. It was nice outside but sooo windy. I thought it would be easier on Tina to do the treadmill.

Joe-did you run today or was this a rest day.

spicegeek-- great job, you'll be back to your regular running speed in no time.

chuck--great time on your 1/2, sorry to hear about the wind. Take care of yourself, drink plenty of fluids. Sound like you might have gotten dehydrated. 70 is horrible to run a 1/2 in I think.

kevee--you are braver than me to run with ice, I fell a couple of years ago and broke my ankle so now I really try to watch what it.

macd--sounds like we are having the same weather today

Talk to everyone later.

sheila

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Feb 17th
hi all, light cross training day after the long run yesterday. 3.1 miles on TM at 8:40 pace, 10 minutes bike and 15 minutes on elliptical machine. I should have stretched better yesterday as the muscles didn't move well today.

chuck - great race too bad the conditions were so awful. You finished and should be proud. Take care and rest. You have another race in 2 weeks? My race the pigeons will drop, as the pelicans are too smart to live up in this weather.

kevee - way to get the run in before the snow. I hate the puddles, it makes it so uncomfortable for miles. Take care and good luck at the gym tomorrow as the puddles will be ice. Cold is back, maybe by next weekend this will break???

joe - what you up to today? Is your weather cleared up?

shelia - now I know why you don't risk running outside in the cold. Good run again on the TM. You are doing well!!

macd - warm day, by May we will be at those temps.

take care all.

2:16:46 ,,,,,, Chip time. Lets see 10 mile was 1:40 so thats a 36 and some change last 5k after a 28 first 5 k. Ok. I can live with that. I'm doing better than what I thought I would be. Really been pushing the fluids. Runjr, looks like more snow for you today. We have Tornado warnings all day but none near us. Thanks to everyone for the well wishes. This is the best group

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Feb 17th

Chuck- Great job keeping at it despite all the wind! My guess is that the farther away from the race you get, the more perspective you will have on what a great thing it was to persevere through the wind. Get lots of good rest!

I ran my 7 miles this morning earlier than I have been running. I also decided to run my long runs without my ipod. I want to be better prepared for races where I cant use it. I also had a feeling that the music may be making it harder for me to learn my pace.

At mile 5 I realized that I was running slow for my goal of 9 min miles. With a half mile left, I found out that if I didnt sprint I wouldnt finish on time.
I did a full-out sprint and finished EXACTLY at 1:02:59! It was kinda cool.

Hope you are all resting your bodies.

Did someone say TAXES? Ugh.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Feb 17th
Hi all,
Chuck congrats! Those wind speeds are grueling - and the humidity makes it even worse! The pelicans sound so cool - I love watching the birds at our feeders outside.
Kevin, can't believe you ran outside today. We had rain, making our roads ice covered and very treacherous! Ds is praying for a delay or snow day tomorrow!
MacD, I would love to see 58. We are headed back to the minuses again this week.
Spicegeek, awesome 4 miles! You are really making a great comeback. Just don't overdo!
Anda - sounds like you got some speedwork done too! Good job.
Run Jr, a "light" cross-training day! Sounds pretty loaded to me.
Joe, thanks for getting us started!
I finished my week with 15.5 miles - a good week for me. Unfortunately most of those were on the dreadmill. I am also doing a much better job at cross-training and strength training these days.
Take care all,
Mary

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Feb 17th

Good Evening Everyone!

Macd, All that snow we were supposed to get went west of us! We've had enough anyway. All we got was primarily rain and ice. Maybe a couple inches of snow.

Sheila, Congrats on the 5 miles. I use Stabilicers when it gets icy. Days like today they really help. Although I still ran slower.

Runjr, Good run, nice time and xtraining too! Excellent work! Did you guys get any snow today? The first puddle was a shock, but once my feet were soaked it didn't really matter much anymore. I didn't really feel cold until I finished my run. Had about a 15 min. walk home and then I started feeling cold.

Chuck, I beat you LOL. Although my 2:14:25 (Garmin time) was for only 10 miles LOL! Great run! I hope you enjoyed yourself in spite of the heat.

Joe, after my run this morning I decided I wasn't going to church (30 mile drive) so I just rested all day too! Official rest day is tomorrow.

Andahuff, I have a hard time doing my let me call them ‘training' runs with my Ipod. Normally I just use it for my recovery runs every other day. Careful with that sprinting at the end. The only experience I had with that was last spring. I started doing that at the end of some of my runs during ‘One Hour Runner'. I ended up with bursitis in my right Achilles tendon.

Mary, I re-dedicated myself to task of running. The way the weather was supposed to be here, running in the early am was my only option. If I would've waited to the afternoon we were supposed to get 8-10 inches of snow. That's all off now, but I didn't know that then.

Good work on the miles this week. And I've got to work on the xtraining. It's just so hard to find the time...

Have a good evening everyone!

Kevin

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Feb 17th

Kevin, Great job on your run today! Yes, I really had a great time today despite the weather. I've been thinking of some really cool things that happened today.Around mile 7 or 8 there was a couple of guys taking pictures, they had a lady holding a Basset Hound, it was howling up a storm as we ran by. Everyone couldn't help but smile and laugh. bet they got some great pictures. Also I looked up the results for the oldest runner for the Half, get this, 99 years young man, 2:13!!!!!!!!!! Awesome!!!!!!!! That should inspire us all.

Mary Great week. maybe spring will be here soon.

andahuff, I find a lot of times I run to the beat of my music. Is that what you do? Way to finish. Great 7 mile time.

Joe, i was hydrated in the morning, my P was clear. I made a mistake and passed up to many early water stations. I didn't hit one till mile 6 and blew through that one. Mile 8 I drank a full cup but by then it was to late I think.

runjr, Yes I have another Hm March 2nd. It's an out an back course and mostly flat. Hopefully a lot cooler then.

Sheila I don't blame you for running inside, wish I could have!

macd. The Pelicans had perfect timing! It was really funny.

Good night all. Thanks again. I will get you pictures, camera is dead, I want to take a picture of my Medal and Shirt.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Feb 17th
good evening all, a quick check in before I call it a night.

andahuff - great run and fantastic finish.

mary - you got the rain as well? Here it is all turned to ice as well. I guess the ice is better than another foot of snow..?? Sooner or later we will be running outside consistently. Good work this week!

kevee - we got the rain that turned to ice. We are going to be inside for a few days again.

joe - we haven't seen our lawn for a month or so. I can't remember what it is like to pull weeds.

chuck - how many miles this week are you planning?

take care all.
