C25K W1 starting 02/17/08

Hello everyone! Some of you may remember me, others won't. Anyways, I completed the C25K program last August and ran my first 5K on October 20th. It was awesome. However, shortly after the race I stopped running, and lost motivation for it all. But now I am back and ready to start running again! I have decided to start the C25K back from the begining and will use Mon, Wed, Fri as my run days. If anyone else will be starting around this time and are interested in keeping up a group let me know! I have found from previous experience that running as a group with other people keeps your momentum up!

Good luck and happy running everyone!

Re: C25K W1 starting 02/17/08

I hope someone does join you Roxanna. From what I've seen here, it's not unusual for people to jump in after a few days or a week.

Folks - any of you thinking hard about doing this but just aren't sure.... try just the first day. That's right - just ONE day. You repeat the jog/walk cycle 8 times & you're done. As long as you jog slowly enough, you can do it. No one is holding a stop watch, glaring disapprovingly if you're slow. I'm slow. I'm VERY slow. Slow is good actually, it helps our bodies adjust with less shock. Sign up & introduce yourselves. It's amazing how being part of a group can get you out there when you're inclined to feel lazy.

It's Sunday & it's raining here - one of those nasty, oily feeling, right around freezing point, rains. I don't want to go out there but a little later on, I will & I'll thank myself for it even though now, my Inner Toddler is whining about not wanting to get wet, not wanting to move out of a comfy chair. It takes time to make this a habit & this time of year, it's even easier not to go out there. That's where the weekly groups come in handy. You know you're not the only one facing hardships & hurdles & it really helps. To do your first day - you simply need shoes & a watch. Give it a shot!

Hi,

Count me in. I made it to W5D2 last time and lost the gumption to keep going. That always seems to be my probelm...my get up and go! I need to stay with it this time! I would like to lose weight in the process also. I plan on using Mon, Wed, and Fri as my days too. Good luck to you!

Re: C25K W1 starting 02/17/08
Hi Roxanna. Count me in as well. I too graduated from the C25K program last year and continued to run for quite a while before stopping last October. I ran a few 5 k's before i stopped. I'm not really sure why I stopped. Maybe it was the time committment but I'm ready and excited about starting over again. I really enjoyed running 3 or 4 times a week and even more, I enjoyed being able to run 30 - 45 minutes non stop. I want to get back to the routine and feeling healthy again. I am going to begin the C25K again on Monday (Feb 18) and plan to run M-W-F. I'll check in regularly and we can compare notes. Good luck. Best regards Jim

Re: C25K W1 starting 02/17/08

I'm happy & excited to see three people starting this week - three that have introduced themselves, that is! I'm hoping a few more are lurking with plans to post after their first runs or two. This isn't a typical tiume to start - it's too late for New Year's resolutions & too early for most to be thinking of spring. But it's never the wrong time to start running & starting now gives people plenty of time to get through C25K before it's time to haul out the summer clothing. Just think - more energy for when you are outside this spring & summer, looking better in summer clothes & maybe even having to buy new ones in different sizes!

I haven't noticed too many people dropping out of the last 7-8 groups. Some have needed a few days or a week because of illness or injury but that's life. The feedback, in spite of the tough sessions we all have once in a while seems very positive. I've finished 6 weeks now & I never thought I'd ever get this far. nIt's definitely helped to have the support of my fellow group members - The Finishers & knowing I can read threads from those in groups ahead of ours to see what's coming up.

Weeks one & two look intimidating if you've never run but they're really not that bad. Just take it really slowly - it's not a race & concentrate on doing one day at a time. It's hard to believe but you WILL be able to handle each new challenge when you meet it. The program works really well that way. If you're not too sure you can handle it because of weight or other medical problems, start a walking program - 3 days a week & if you can handle a brisk 30 minute walk 3 days a week & your doctor says you're good to go - give it a whirl!

Hi all, count me in too. Was looking through the boards yesterday and didn't notice any groups starting this wk. Glad i login today to check and found it. Started W1D1 today, was quite okay. Planning to do M W F too. Doing C25k in the morning and weather here is forever great except rainy days so hopefully it will not rain in the morning of M W F for the next 9 wks :)

Re: C25K W1 starting 02/17/08
Hi there! I'm starting out as well - I actually did W1D1 about a week ago but didn't squeeze D2 in until Saturday night. Hopefully will get to D3 today or tomorrow. So I'm sorta in between weeks but I'll say that I started this week. The first couple days weren't so bad, definitely not "a walk in the park" (well, the walking was!) but I wasn't overly tired or sore the next days. I've never been a runner before and usually get winded after a short sprint, but I'd like to build up my endurance. I think a 5k would be great and I hope I can accomplish it! I hope more people join and everyone sticks with it, thanks for making this thread!

Re: C25K W1 starting 02/17/08

Just wanted to stop and say hi! I am planning on running tonight after the kids go to bed. I'm not a morning person. I am starting to think about what I should be doing on my off days. I am thinking that at least 2x a week (on my off days) I should do the elliptical and maybe some weights. One day lower half of my body and one day upper half. Does anyone else have any plans?

I'll stop by later after my run.

Manda

Re: C25K W1 starting 02/17/08

Hello all, I ran W1D1 today. I ran at 10:00am (no work today...president's day holiday).
The weather was beautiful here in North Carolina and I enjoyed getting
out there again. I plan to run M-W-F. Like Roxanna this is not my first time on the program. I finished the program the first time early last summer and ran regularly through the fall. For some reason I stopped last October. Things got a little busy and I started to find excuses for not getting out there for my runs. I regret not running throught the winter becasue once you stop running regularly its difficult to pick up where you left off. Lesson learned! I have re-commited myself to complete the program and more impotantly to make running a permanent part of my lifestyle. Good luck everyone, see you on Wednesday.

Re: C25K W1 starting 02/17/08

Good evening everyone~

W1D1 went swimmingly! Just got off the treadmill and actually stretched for the first time. I was very bad at doing that last time! Like Roxanna mentioned, it felt good to be back at it again. I can't give it up this time. I'm up at 5:30 also to get DH and kids up and going. I can't imagine getting up any earlier. Last time I was getting up earlier to run before work and I think that was half my problem...a girl can only get up so early!

I was thinking that it would be nice if we had a name for our little group--something easy to pick out when we are skimming the discussion boards. Does anyone have any ideas?

Jim - I totally hear you on the lesson learned issue. I can't let it get away from me this time! Maybe if we all "graduate" C25K together we could keep going with 1 Hour Runner...but I don't want to get ahead of myself!

Talk with you all soon!

Re: C25K W1 starting 02/17/08

Good to find a group who is starting this week, too! I completed W1D1 last night, it was tough, but I felt like I had accomplished quite alot when it was over. I always said that I would never run unless someone was chasing me, but I think that will change. It was quite emplowering just making it through the program, so much so that I walked an additional mile when I was done! I think any other time I tried to start a run/jog program I went too fast and just ended up feeling like a failure.

I've been on Weight Watchers for about 4-1/2 months and without regular exercise have been able to drop 26 lbs. Only 17 more to go to reach goal, but I know that's gonna take some work. Enter C25K! I want a program that is easy to follow and doesn't require going to a gym. Right now I am running on a treadmill at my parent's house, but once the winter here in northwest Illinois breaks (if it ever does :8} ), I will be hitting the streets!

Can't wait to check back and see how everyone did on W1D2!!

I'm jumping in a little late but I bought some new running shoes and I'm raring to go starting tomorrow morning! This is my first time doing the C25K.
