Run/Walk Half Marathon

Just wondering if there is anyone else out there lurking around who is starting to train to run/walk a half marathon. My husband and I, on a whim, decided to try it last year with no training. It was great fun and this year we're actually preparing for it. Just wondering what types of programs others are using. The other question I came up with was why people run/walk? For me, it's because I'm trying to build endurance because there is no way I would finish a half marathon without walk breaks. Wondering if there are other thoughts about it....

Re: Run/Walk Half Marathon

Run/walk is a great way to train for newer runners, and it is the method I used. This is a good way to build endurance without injury. I followed a Jeff Galloway program. Many will claim that using this method is "wimpy," but I disagree. I just started running in July. I thought I would need at least a year of running before even attempting a HM. But by using the Galloway method, I was able to accomplish the HM goal in January. For my next HM, I will be training with a group and I will hopefully do much better on my time. But even though I plan to run most of the next one, I will no doubt take a few walk breaks. Better to take a few walk breaks and finish strong than to poop out early.

Good luck!
