Re: C25K: Week One.. Feb. 10-17
You guys are awesome. I'm so proud of our group. You all did it. You made it through week two. I wish I could say the same. I ran w2d1 on Wednesday and it was so tough for me. After the first 3 reps I went back to week1 running for 30 seconds. I was so discouraged that I haven't gotten back to the gym to run again this week. I ate peppermint ice cream for dinner last night and stayed home SAYING it was because the weather was getting bad. But I know it was just an excuse to not run. It is so hard for me to motivate myself. I can't believe it is only the second week and I'm considering giving up already. I'm such a sissy. Maybe if I had kids I would have known real pain. :D

While I was running on Wednesday I noticed pain in my left leg. It is located on the inside of my shin so I don't think it was exactly shin splints. After I was done I sat with my knees bent sitting on my feet to stretch this area. This helped some but I'm so afraid of hurting myself that I'm afraid to try to run again. Wednesday I spoke with a fellow cyclist who also runs. He suggested using a knee brace of some kind since I hurt my leg in January during a cycling accident. Getting old is ****. I guess I'm telling you this so you each can help motivate me. I know that I really can do this. I know how awesome it will feel to run a 5k this year when I turn 50. I want to celebrate being healthy and fit at age 50. Someone please help me.

Oh some of my fav songs on the ipod - Stays in Mexico (Toby Keith), Life is a Highway (Racal Flats), Fast as You (Dwight Yoakum), Nobody Else (Los Lonely Boys) and Radio Nowhere (Bruce Springsteen) and some rap songs my nephew burned for me so I don't know the artists or song names. What a wild mix huh? lol

Re: C25K: Week One.. Feb. 10-17

Thank you Slogon. That is a great idea and I may try taking away walking time instead of adding running time. I know I beat myself up a lot. I do it with my cycling too. Part of my problem may be my extra 50 lbs or so. Another issue is my flat feet. I'm going to try using my arch support inserts from now on when I walk/run.

I had an online friend who shamed me into going to the gym last night. I was so glad I went once I got there. I did feel the pain in my shins again so the second half I went back to running 60 seconds with two minutes of walking between. It helped. I made it through and I was proud I did it. During the night last night, the pain in my legs was so bad that for the second time this week it woke me up. I got up, took some ibuprofen and a couple hours later the pain was much better.

I think I compare myself to how everyone else in the forum is doing and I expect to be doing better and having an easier time of it. Does anyone else compare theirself to others in the forum or is this just me?

Good luck in week 3 gang.

Re: C25K: Week One.. Feb. 10-17
Hey Lancesmom12. I am also carrying around an extra 50 pounds (boo) and have severely flat feet so get shin splints really easily. I did go to a running store and get fit for shoes and they reccomended inserts which I also bought. It seemed silly for the tiny amount of running I was doing at the beginning of C25K, but it has made a huge difference. I did still get some shin pain but nowhere near what I used to. In terms of controlling the shin pain, I take ibuprofen with a small snack after I do C25K, and ice immediately even if I don't think I am going to have shin pain. It has made a big difference for me. I also do all the stretching you normally see, but add in ankle circles which seems to help me. http://zinaan.blogspot.com/2007/06/shin-splints.html They are described at this link. Oh and my gym has WoodWay treadmills which helps a lot with the shin pain, they produce a lot less impact on my body. Good luck. Glad you got out there again.

Re: C25K: Week One.. Feb. 10-17

Hey everyone, nice work this week.

Lancesmom12 -- Keep up the great work. I know where you are coming from. This is my 3rd time to start the C25K (2nd time this year). I finished the program in early 2006 and while it seems like a real challenge to get through the early weeks the satisfaction at the end of week 9 is worth it. Just remember to take it slow both while running and in completing the program. Good Luck.

Finsihed Week 2 yesterday. I had to take an extra day off due to some knee stiffness on Friday. Everything was good yestrerday with the run and no stiffness or pain today (whew).

Good luck with week 3 everyone. Will check in later.

Re: C25K: Week One.. Feb. 10-17

Count me in, I finished w3d1 tonight. I'm really glad the it wasn't running 3 minutes at each interval! The 3 minutes wasn't really physically tough, it was more mental. I think I am going to need my IPod soon so I'm not hearing those little voices in my head.

I'm really happy I got through it. Still on a treadmill, but I did do a 2 or 3% slope on a few of the runs to try and get my body used to what I will be up against when I head outside. Anyone else doing a treadmill for now? The weather was beautiful today and a good amount of the snow and Ice we got over the weekend had melted, but I just couldn't get out there before dark again. Can't wait till the time change. I don't think I have made it to week three in the past without skipping at least one workout or quitting altogether.

Good luck with week 3 everyone.

I am on the treadmill. I plan to complete in on the treadmill and then move outside to a track and back up to week 5 again. After I can do it on the track I will back up (if I need to) and start running in Golden Gate Park.

Re: C25K: Week One.. Feb. 10-17

Finished W3D1 tonight. I'm floating my running days through the week (never taking more than 2 days off) and I'm not sure if that makes any difference. I was able to get through the run today without any issues. Hopefully in the next few weeks I can get on a set schedule but for now I am just running when I can as long as I get the 3 days in each week. I don't have access to a treadmill so I am doing everything outside.

Good work everyone!!! Keep it up!!!

Re: C25K: Week One.. Feb. 10-17

Hello everyone! I am a bit behind as I have spent the past week knocked out by the flu...ugh! But I hope to be 100% soon! I still need to do w2d3, hopefully tomorrow, then, depending on how I feel, I'll be caught up soon! I'm not too worried about it since we are still so early in the program, but I'm upset that I haven't been able to maintain my "streak." oh well! Great job everyone! Keep up the great work!

Re: C25K: Week One.. Feb. 10-17

Week 3 down! I finished week 3 today and even added 30 seconds to the last jogging interval. I am so happy.

I read week 4 though and it seems like a really really big leap. Does anyone have a strategy for how they are going to tackle week 4? I plan to sloooowww dooowwwn, and get through it, and then speed up a little each day. It's what got me through week 3.

Re: C25K: Week One.. Feb. 10-17

You folks are doing great! How wonderful. I know you're proud of youselves.

I went back to week 1 on Thursday and I did so much better. I was still only able to complete 6 of the 8 intervals but I felt great when I was done. I was so proud that I got to the gym and made myself run. I was proud I completed 6 interevals. I now know it may take me longer but I'm going to get there. I'm in no hurry. My goal is for this year so I have 10 more months to complete my goal.

I: Week One.. Feb. 10-17
I finished w3d2 last night, I couldn't get my second day in during the week. It went well, but I once again, it was a bit of a struggle. I'm not really looking forward to next week either. But I do have to say that I always feel a sense of satisfaction when I do finish a workout. I definately want to keep going, this is the furthest I've gotten on this program. If I remember correctly there was quite a jump for week 4. I'll do day 3 later today after shoveling some snow. Glad to see that everyone is keeping with the program. Good luck for week 4.

Re: C25K: Week One.. Feb. 10-17
Week 3 done. I did the last work out this afternoon. I was finally able to run outside and it was so nice. I live in a really hilly area but it wasn't bad at all. Between my Border Collie Mae and the Ipod it went by really fast and relatively easy. It was nice to have a sunny day out of the teens for a change. I hope to work in at least one work out per week outdoors for the rest of the training. The time seems to go by easier, prbably because i don't have a constant reminder (treadmill timer) right in front of me.

Week 4 here I come, hopefully I won't be too sore tomorrow after running outdoors today. Keep on running everyone.
